First off...CONGRATS ON YOUR APPROVAL!! That's wonderful news!! U should be thrilled!! I was denied and and waiting on my appeal approval. So I don't have any after advice, but I'm sure someone does!! Yay for you!!

As long as u didn't have a 'Net Gain' which is a gain over where u started...than u should be ok. I had a net gain, and I was denied. I have Aetna. Every place is different, but if it was all submitted with a net gain, u may have to look up ur ins company's rules for bariatric surgery. They will list the exclusions on why they won't cover it. I had no idea either, but it was my job to make sure I knew the rules of Aetna. So now I'm appealing and hoping for the best... Good luck!

Ok well I called and they said they will be making a decision by August 16th. So here's to hoping for approval!!

So I just got off the phone with them- They recieved my letter on the 1st and they will make a decision by August 16th! So here's hoping they approve!!

Thank you for your responses. I'm calling in 5 min!! My surgeons office already sent a letter of appeal and I mailed my 4 page appeal last week. I just didn't know if I should be calling them everyday or what to even say. Thanks for the tips! Keep ya's posted!

Hello all! I was also denied by Aetna for weight gain. I don't know where u all live, but I was given a lil tip from a friend on sending my appeal into Aetna... CONTACT YOU STATE REP AND UR STATE SENATOR!! I live in PA, I contacted and emailed Pennsylvania senator Stewart Greenleaf and emailed him my appeal letter on Monday night. Today I was received a call from his office stating that they received my request and sen. Greenleaf was writing a letter on my behalf to Aetna supporting my appeal AND sending it out today!! I sent my appeal letter in today too...sent by certified mail. I gave it to my 2 sisters, husband, one coworker, and my mother and everyone ended up crying while reading it. Sooooo I'm guessing the letter is better than great!! Apparently insurance companies DO NOT LIKE THE STATE REPS AND SENATORS involved. HOPEFULLY this will help my appeal!! I'll let u all know if it works!!

I was denied for a net weight gain, But in my defense my 37 yr old husband has a heart attack and also needed a triple bypass. It was so hard on me and while he was in the hospital it was too hard to breathe let alone eat. Which I didn't. I'm asking them for an exception, I'm trying to get healthy with my husband and I can't keep up with him now...which is a great thing for him. I know what I did wrong, and I'm hoping they see that I've had a very difficult time the past 6 months. If not-I can do 3 more months of NUT visits. And I intend to continue. If the senator can't help- than so be it. But I at least put in the effort to continue to fight!!

No they did not. But it was my job to know the requirements of Aetna. I just had too much on my plate.

I did!! I told her that I am happy for her and I will be right behind her so she need not to worry. she seems better after I talked to her! Thanks to everyone for advice.

No not yet. But I am desperately contemplating calling them today and seeing if its been processed yet. Today is day 5. Can't hurt!! Praying for your approval!!

Hey! Well I mailed in my appeal last week and they got it last Friday morning. (Sent certified and with signature required and I ended up with strep throat and NO VOICE!! so I was gonna call but I've been outta work the last 2 days with this nasty thing. So as soon as I get my voice back I'm going to call!! Keep me in your prayers please!! And thanks for thinkin of me

Sorry to hear about you husband and what you've been through. I haven't had the surgery yet. I still have 2 more doctor visits for weight loss to go through, then it will be the waiting game for approval. Hope your appeal goes through. Best of luck Thank you!! Same too you!!

Hey Brian- I was denied because of a 'net gain during the 3 month nut visits' Reason I had an unfortunate gain... Not to make excuses... I messed up, it's my fault and I take ownership of it completely... but here is why.. My 37 yr old husband had a heart attack feb 6th 2014 and a triple heart bypass feb 14th. Hardest damn thing I've ever been thru. I'm only 33, we've just celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary in July. He had a blockage of his left main artery (the widow maker) and he is lucky to be alive. The right coronary artery was the the one that gave him chest pain and the heart attack. They said if we didn't get him to the ER when we did than I would have and home to him dead. It was a big wake up call. We both quit smoking that same day and haven't looked back. He is bipolar, ADHD, has extreme anxiety and depression an diabetic. He could not give himself injections- I was giving him 5 needles a day. It was horrible. So between going through all that and not smoking, I put on 5 pounds over where I started at in my journey. I did turn right back around and lost it, but it's all they needed to deny my. I just sent my appeal letter yesterday. I'm praying they accept my appeal. Have u had surgery yet? And thank u for the advice- greatly appreciated.

Hi ginger- thank you. I will be taking ur advice and talking with her today. I've never been to the melting pot but always wanted to go, we have one 10 min from my house. It just came as a shock to me, I've been pretty open about it since the beginning. I thought about it all night and barely slept. So after everyone leaves work today I'll have a quick chat with her. I'm sorry. Didn't mean to kill your hope. Every surgeons office is different. Did u have a NET GAIN? Did u end up weighing more than where you started at?? If u mess up I feel like they just make u fight harder to prove u want this. U could be approved! Don't worry until u have too! IF DENIED---FIGHT FOR WHAT U WANT!! I am!
