Has anyone been approved using US Family Health Plan which is part of the John's Hopkins Medical System in connection with Tricare. I just looked at their requirements and they look very strict. Just wondering if anyone else has this insurance.

So, July 25th is the magic day just awaiting insurance approval. I'm so filled with mixed emotions. Excitement, fear, anxiety, anticipation....which I think is pretty normal. So many changes in all of our lives. I begin my pre-op diet on July 11. It became real today when I got all of my diets from Phase ! through Phase IV so now I just wait. Anyone else at the end of July?

I was so excited...surgery was scheduled for July 25, I have purchased all of my Vitamins, and Protein powder. My package was submitted to insurance last week. Yesterday, the nurse coordinator called and said that she was mistaken about my insurance company's policies regarding WLS and that I had to do six months of a food journal and six months with monthly meetings with a nutritionist. First I was shock, then really angry and then really really disappointed. I began this process on April 7, so now I have to wait until October and put all of my notes together for a food journal. Thankfully I have kept notes. But to be all revved up for surgery and have a taken away really sucks. At least it will be cooler in October and extra fluids shouldn't be required.

It was my insurance company who postponed me as well. My nurse coordinator did not realize that the company required a six month nutrition log before they will approve me for surgery. Now, I'm wondering if they will just deny me or they have these requirements to discourage people from having the surgery. I'm so sorry for you julez, keep bugging the company and find out why you were denied. As for me, I'm working on my log, will continue going to monthly nutrition meetings, and do as much preparation as possible, in the hope they I get approved in October. Oh, I can't really lose much weight between now and then as it will disqualify me...makes no sense to me at all.

I have not been diagnosed with bipolar but do suffer from extreme depressive episodes which sometimes manifest themselves in a manic state. Do not always have to take meds but have been on antianxiety and antidepressives periodically through my life. I am also in a manic state which is driving my poor husband crazy. Surgery not until July 25 but it is all that I can think about and talk about. I have been using other tools such as exercise but I am still not sleeping. I feel your pain and wish you well.

I am in the Annapolis area and will be having by-pass on July 25. My surgeon is Alex Gandsas and I will be at Anne Arundel Medical Center. I have a two week prep diet where I can either have 4 shakes per day or a very limited menu of one egg and some fruit for Breakfast, a salad with low fat salad dressing and 4 ounces of lean Protein for lunch, one snack that must be high in protein and low in carbs and 4 oz. of lean protein with two cups of a non-starchy veggie for dinner. Guess I'm pretty lucky.
