Hey Gowalking! Hello back at you. It looks like our surgery dates are about six months apart. I am glad the recent fill is working for you. I had one, too, and I feel like I am still adjusting. I have about seven pesky pounds that have crept back that I need to shed. Good luck with your goal. Good luck to you too Kat. Where in Florida are you? I come down often to the Ft. Lauderdale area where my folks live. I am in the Tampa Bay area.

hair falling out.....HELP!
kathousefl replied to pattij106's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know you have gotten some good responses, but I just thought I would throw in my two cents: biotin, zinc, folic acid ... and minoxidil. My hair has always been thin, but it got a lot worse with the weight loss. It now is a lot better. -
I agree with Lisa and Sharpie. Sometimes a fill takes a little time to get situated, after all it is fluid :-). I am in the central west coast area of Florida. I hope the hottest November in history gives us break soon.
-
That makes sense. It is better to wait if you are going out of town. I am not in south Florida.

Hi @@gowalking! How are things going since your fill?
-
Hi Gowalking, I just had a fill, my first in almost a year. I did have a slight unfill about a month ago and starting gaining a bit. You are definitely not a failure. Following up with your doctor's office means you are in charge. Good luck.

Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk I am sorry you are having such a different experience than I am with that doctor and office.Yea they're always brushing me off. He put me on a 2 week liquid diet. Emptied my band & didn't explain why or anything. I called in saying I felt really nauseous & light headed taking only 3 shakes a day & all I get is " that's the point, for you to be hungry, it's so you lose some weight." And "see you for your fill in a week" Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk I am sorry to hear that. I hope you find another office and doctor that is a better fit for you. As I mentioned, I have not had this experience with this doctor or office. I would be very frustrated if I had. I am pretty sure there are doctors who work out of Regional Medical Center Bayonet point. That may be more convenient for you.

I have not posted in a while, but I saw this post and thought I would chime in. Dr. Rhenke and his staff are great. I think keeping the followup appointments, even when I don't have any issues has helped keep me on track.
-
First, the weight you lost on the liquid diet absolutely counts. So, you have lost 100 pounds in a little over six months? It sounds like you are on track. It is great that you are going back to the doctor for a fill. Good luck.

Osteoarthritis at 32-losing weight with diet ONLY?
kathousefl replied to BandedMi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello again, I understand your frustration and not wanting to go to a pool. Although if you can find an all-women's gym, water aerobics would be a good option. I am not sure what you mean by "heavy walking," but walking at a slow pace will help with your knees. If walking on a treadmill is not an option for you, taking a leisurely stroll outside would work. If possible, try to avoid walking on concrete. The main reason I replied to your post again is your comments about losing weight through diet being torture and people who don't care won't lose weight. I disagree on both of these counts. When I decided to have lap band surgery, I looked at it as a new start for my thought process about weight and nutrition. I have followed my doctors' "food rules," and it has not been torture at all thanks to the band. I know some people here swear they can eat any kind of food they want, but since that never worked for me before the band, I knew it wouldn't work now. It is obvious from your post that you do care and that you do want to make changes. Take a deep breath. You can do this. -
Osteoarthritis at 32-losing weight with diet ONLY?
kathousefl replied to BandedMi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi there! I have osteo arthritis, and have issues exercising.I also suggest a second opinion from another ortho, preferably one who specializes in sports medicine. I was told light exercise is good for all forms of arthritis. I have back, knee, neck and foot issues. That being said, I did lose 150 pounds with diet alone. I have just started exercising again, but I am at a good point weight-wise. I know a lot of people on these boards say you cannot rely on diet alone, -
I am pretty sure there are different rules for lap band than gastric bypass - types of medication and required supplements. I have a prescription for Ibu and have not had issues.

Ugh I was doing so good.. :-(
kathousefl replied to Butterfly512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Butterfly - I hope your fill and doctor's appointment go well. You can use the fill as a jumping off point to stick to the rules, especially since you were in pain after your binge. I know you are discouraged, but you can do this. You just need to get your head in the game. Yes, I know that is difficult. I had to convince myself that straying from a high-protein diet was detrimental to me. I had to keep all binge foods out of the house during the soft food phase. As I recall, I ate a lot of cream Soups. Reminding yourself to eat slowly really does help. Good luck. -

How accurate is your calorie counting?
kathousefl replied to Sara51692's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hi Sara, I was very diligent about tracking everything right after my surgery. I tried to be as exact as possible with My Fitness Pal, but I didn't include all veggies, so the daily calories were approximate. For me, tracking and measuring everything I put in my mouth was very helpful. I like My Fitness Pal because it was easy to use, even if the calories were not exact. Good luck! -
diet 80% and exercise 20% or is it ?
kathousefl replied to AussieSam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What do you eat that you eat only protein? I really, really force the fluids. It helps that my two toddlers have me up every day at 6AM, so I get a very early start. My daily menu is extremely boring! By saying, "I only eat protein," what I mean is, I have not incorporated in any type of vegetables or fruit, or even healthy grains of any kind, yet. I'm 10 weeks out and have no food texture restrictions now, but here's how a day typically looks Breakfast - egg whites with shredded low fat cheese, or a Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt or cottage cheese (or any combination of those things, depending on how hungry I am/time of month.) Mid-morning snack - Babybel Mozzarella mini cheese (or two) Lunch - any of these things: steamed shrimp, StarKist tuna pouch, grilled chicken, grilled salmon Mid-day snack (if I need one) - another Greek yogurt or cottage cheese dinner - usually fish/seafood or chicken again, similar to lunch. Lump crab meat, shrimp, salmon, tuna ... I'm a creature of habit, so eating the same things for an extended period of time does not bother me. I know at some point it will, but for now, that's how I'm eating. I'm ever conscious that we have a honeymoon phase, and I'm taking full advantage of it. Right now, I am eating 90-100g of protein every day. Again, something I know I won't sustain forever. But, honeymoon phase. Thanks for responding and for sharing :-). It took me a long time to add fruit to my diet. I ate veggies after the initial soft phase though. I have not had any whole grains. I do have a couple of treats that have processed carbs, but I have stayed away from most processed carbs for the past two years. -

kathousefl replied to AussieSam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow - I am impressed that you can drink 100 ounces of Water. I don't come close to that. You eat only protein... that must be very challenging. What are your typical lunch and dinners like? -

kathousefl replied to AussieSam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was told that exercise is a great thing to do, but if the food choices and calorie reduction are not done, exercise by itself will not promote weight loss. In the past, when I have exercised, it did keep me focused on eating healthier, but not really on the calorie reduction aspect of weight loss. I need to get motivated to exercise. I know it is good for my physical and mental well being. That being said, I have actually lost a lot of weight without exercising. I am not saying I recommend that though. I am just being honest. -
It was weird for me to buy things that fit. I have always looked at items that were "roomy," and bought my clothes online, because there were not many options for a plus-sized woman in the stores. Trying on clothes was an experience since it has been decades since I did that. I also needed to shop at sales since I was changing sized so often for a while.

I just thought I would chime in here. Everyone goes into WLS for different reasons, and each person decides how they want to use the tool of having a band. When I committed to the surgery, I committed to a lifestyle change. I paid careful attention to everything my doctor told me about not eating carbs and sticking with vegetables and Protein. Before the surgery, I was a vegetarian, and I decided to change that because I was eating too many processed carbs, and my body was having a negative reaction to that. I am happy with the band. When I first was banded, I kept my calories around 800. Now I eat about 1,000 a day - three meals and few Snacks. I do not eat processed carbs, and I do not feel deprived. I am not saying this is an easy journey. I have had to work hard, but it is so worth it.

I've started to look in the juniors department but obviously the clothes are not age appropriate so most of them are a no-go. I love the clothes at White House/Black Market except that obviously, the color palette is limited. I just have to know going in, that I'll be trying on the same outfit in several sizes (if they have them) because I have worn clothing anywhere from a size 2 to size 12. I went to the Ann Taylor outlet the other day and started off with a size 10P dress and size MP shrug to go over it. I wound up with a size 4 regular dress and size S regular shrug. I'm also learning how to buy what looks good and not what fits. That's also a huge change in mindset. I ran into the same issue. Sizing is not the same as it used to be, and I had no idea I was petite until I lost so much weight. If you like Ann Taylor, you should try The Loft.

The scale...
kathousefl replied to nikkiperezcassar's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am one of those-weight-myself-everyday-people. I don't recommend it for everyone though, especially if the fluctuations drive you bonkers. All scales are slightly different, so pick one and use the same one all of the time. My internist actually suggested I weigh myself every day, so I could keep a close eye on things. I think she has seen a lot of people gain weight back, so I have stuck with her suggestion as well as my surgeon's food recommendations. That being said, my weight does fluctuate throughout the day and a bit from day-to-day. It usually stays within a three-pound range though. -
