Am I going to gain it all back?

Just because it looks good doesn't mean one must eat any of the same or eat it all, does it? BTW: CBT is a positive way to overcome self doubt issues like the title of this thread is indicative of. If interested [i have no idea of whether Group on operates in the US] but here is something worth looking at & following up if it appeals to anyone: https://www.groupon.com.au/deals/dealbank_en_au/centre-of-excellence-online-1021/77303378

Am I going to gain it all back?

There is an unfounded assumption in many of these threads that 'family' eating habits will change to suit our new found 'healthy' status. That assumption will not happen readily & it is not up to them, but us to change our eating habits. One of those habits may be hard but it must become NO! I don't need or want what is being offered or as I often do with deserts is leave something else & just accept a small sliver of desert which is more than enough....

    SLEEVE OR BYPASS? WHY?

Well ysuggest more scientific research & asking professionals for the answer. One is more suitable for those with a propensity for diabetes, than the other according to my doc who does all of these procedures.
  4. I did not read all of this thread so if what I'm saying has been said before mea culpa.. Nothing to do with feeling full or measuring anything. It is all in the mind IMO....If you are not actually hungry, don't open your mouth. Listen to the professionals & remember what you used to do got you to the point of the knife. [& some have not changed their mindset unfortunately] Nothing will change in the medium to long term unless some revise their priorities permanently!
  5. Good stuff.... This is probably normal.....you didn't mention exercise & that is a must I've found. Injured & laid around for a few weeks & guess what? My doc said from the beginning forget carbs & calories & watch cm/inches, once I was on target. Also the nutritionist & psych said eat enough, but if you are not hungry forget stuffing stuff in your mouth. As I was gaining weight in the early 2000's my GP indicated the best way to loose weight was to shut your [expletive] mouth. All pertinent advice.
  6. A good talk with your psych, might help. It is not really a feeling of fullness! That is your 'old' way of thinking Some replies are indicative of this old thinking also. Welcome to the meaner leaner world you are seeking, where the 'new thinking' is a thought process that needs you to continually keep re-affirming that are not really hungry, don't need to eat all that stuff & leave what you don't need on the plate. It does get easier, so don't despair. One needs to stop eating when they don't need to, but still get enough 'good' food to sustain them, with the addition of Vitamins & minerals, your nutritionist should have explained. Every so often your doc should order a comprehensive blood test to ensure you have no deficiencies. If you stop eating you will stop losing weight. Eat just right & it will keep falling off @ a constant rate with exercise, until you are @ or less than your doctor advised I feel sorry for those where families expect no change in your eating habits or types of food that you now enjoy v/s the old you. I only have one to deal with! It must be explained to them very clearly from the start of your journey, that things won't be the same. You & only you must be unwavering & stick to what is best for YOU!

    What can I do with...cauliflower?

Not sure if the link will work but Rachel Khoo just had a great progamme on local TV including a 'Cauliflower cheese Burger ...no bread. Looked wonderful & might suit the family: http://www.rachelkhoo.com/recipe/recipe-cauliflower-cheese-burgers
  8. For sure, check to be certain. Not uncommon & as others have said an imbalance in your pills or some other/s needed.. I take magnesium & that has helped immensely.

    What can I do with...cauliflower?

I was taught by my grandfather to try anything, as far s food goes & never say anything negative about something you have not tried. What one might do easily with cauliflower is the topic of this thread & perhaps a positive contribution would be much more appropriate than talking 'crap'?

    Drinking with meals?

Definitely not how the process was explained to me or how things work in practice. Food in the pouch is a PLUG. Drinking liquid has nowhere to go unless food is displaced from the pouch & comes back out your mouth. If forced to do so it will. I'm sure some on here can attest to this. Clear liquid no matter what type, travels through the pouch reasonably quickly & doesn't accumulate there. Food actually stops for a while, accumulating & filling the pouch....want to drink [even a sip] when the pouch is full & I'll guarantee you will have a negative, resultant effect nobody needs. In practice I only stop drinking when food is being served. No need for 1/2-3/4 hour before & attracting attention to oneself. The only time I have a drink in front of me @ anyone's dinner table is if someone might call a toast, then one can participate & fake it. My friends do not keep trying to or expect me to drink with meals, something I always used to do. If you wish to drink again after dinner, do so when you feel comfortable your food has been digested which will be about 1 to 1.5 hours later, in my case.

    What can I do with...cauliflower?

Cauliflower, brussels sprouts & broccoli [plus most other vegetables cut into bite sized/diced chunks e.g. potato, carrot, parsnip etc] come out wonderfully well cooked in a vegetable stock, with later added coconut milk & Keens curry powder to individual taste. This makes a veggy packed, lovely smooth tasting, lightly curried sauce, most of the family will love. Make sure to add vegetables in correct cooking sequence [like potato first] so none will be overcooked. Really nice tasty accompaniment with grilled Protein [meat/fish/chicken] of choice.

    Metabolism/Beta Blocker

Invariably medication will need modifying [less is needed] after this type surgery + weight loss @ some point. My BP last week was down to 110 on 60 using very low dosage Beta blocker & Alpha blocker now. No longer the high dosage when BP was 150/165 on 95/100 before surgery & weight loss. Ask your medico is pertinent advice.

    Food allergies

Baked Beans are a fantastic, inexpensive source of Protein. Just make sure you get ones that are not laced up with SUGARS like most US ones. Ones from Italy are usually very good & lowest in carbohydrates [on the nutritional label. http://www.aww.com.au/latest-news/health/10-things-you-did-not-know-about-baked-beans-2961

Do You Eat Breakfast? What Do You Have?

Great believer in we can live on 1 meal a day & that has to be breakfast. Usually up around 4am, 2 wheat bix multi grain, [no sugar added] with whole milk to start....no coffee tea or other beverage. Later a cup of hot chicken broth with Vitamins, then around 6.30-7am 1 or 2 eggs [any style], 2 rashers of bacon plus bubble & squeak [left over veges] as a pancake [or alternate baked Beans, great Protein if you didn't know] with one piece of homemade bread toast & butter. Volume is less than 2 cups if chewed slowly & properly. Once satiated leave what is left for the neighbors dog. Off on 6k return bike ride, to about an 1 hour session @ the gym, 3 times a week.
  15. May have been posted here in a thread before but just in case... After sleeving it is possible if one did not have lactose intolerance before, they will after. Resulting in very loose motions! One can buy lactose free milk usually @ very inflated prices OR buy a product called lacteese, lactase or similar from the pharmacy & fix their normal priced whole milk, to be close to lactose free. I use the liquid form [16 drops to 2 litres] & will go through that in 2 or 3 days as iced decaf coffee....good food, IMO.
  16. Suggestion: My surgeon gave me an official card [credit card size] indicating that I could not eat large servings & that children's size serves or special type food may be necessary. It has worked the 2 times I needed to use it when travelling in the US.
  17. Respectfully....Time to get used to it & your professional team should have explained this to you. This will always be the case, even years after the surgery & perhaps forever. It does mean you will find different food type/s that you wouldn't have eaten before, but now enjoy. e.g. I used to dislike salads period, particularly with US type heavy salad dressings. Now I like all salads [as long as there is no cucumber] especially ones that have lighter Japanese style dressings with sesame as well as those Asian crispy noodle type salads are great. I could eat that every night when my other half can eat & enjoy anything she likes. Bars & all that commercial stuff have never entered the equation from this end! Point is your & hubby's eating habits, won't necessarily ever be in synch again. Realizing this now rather than later, is a good thing. As for traveling, it is cutting things close, but all should be fine....look into the insurance aspect, though.

    Winter Campfire Cookout

This may be your answer & also help others who can't cop greasy food anymore: I have one of these Charbroil Big Easy Oil Less Turkey Fryer's & use it for cooking chicken legs, thighs & other chicken portions rubbed with oil/lard & seasoned with salt pepper or whatever. Tried but no success with pork/beef except large cuts like rib roasts & rolled pork or leg roasts & of course just fabulous with turkeys. http://www.charbroil.com/the-big-easy-oil-less-turkey-fryer Chicken cooking to temperature [72-74*C internal] takes less than 30 minutes, depending on quantity cooked. Check with meat thermometer for perfection [or possible under cooked, needing more time]. Even if you overcook & get up to 85*C internal, or more, the chicken will still be lovely & not dried out, like in a normal BBQ. Chicken will be fabulously moist meat & next to oil less....that oil is in the removable collection tray.

    Alcohol- beware.

Diet pop & mixed drinks become considerably less carbonated if one shakes the can & in the sink carefully cracks the top enough to let the gas out [doesn't squirt everywhere] then open fully, slowly. I do the same with beer & dry cider [my preferred drink], then pour over heaps of ice into a pint mug. Let the drink settle down as more gas makes it's way out, then top up. The only beer I can drink @ a pub without doing this, are the English lightly nitrogen gassed types like Kilkenny, Boddington's etc. Yes I drink beer over ice [just like we did in ASIA] & it is good....plus 1/2 your drink is actually ice/water. Give it a go & experiment with pop until it's mastered, Daveo.

    Alcohol- beware.

ALCOHOL BEWARE INDEED? To have a few enjoyable alcoholic beverages [even daily] is not being addicted to anything. It is an acquired habit just like some have in overeating, smoking, sex? etc. & can be broken with will or just say NO POWER, if required. ALTHOUGH it has been correctly mentioned that alcohol is absorbed more quickly into a sleevers bloodstream, it HAS NOT been pointed out that whether one feels any intoxication or not they will be DUI DWI etc. after drinking much less alcohol than those not sleeved. In other words 2 drinks in an hour & you can easily get busted, become involved in an accident & lose your insurance coverage. Don't learn the hard way, BE VERY CAREFUL & understand this aspect well! As is often stated, we are all different: This is how I handle alcohol @ home or out visiting or dining.... Drink whatever, until time to eat, then stop. Eating slowly straight away, is no problem [volume/size up to about 1.5 to 2 cups]. Eating out, I will often only order a starter [if really small X 2] or Soup or Caesar salad After eating & about about 0.5 hour, I can then handle a small dessert or ice cream etc. More often than not, I don't drink anymore. Your satiation/fullness with food should be quite apparent. Get used to it, as that is when one should leave anything left on their plate! If there is more than needed or way too much, leave it...they will learn. As this satiated feeling diminishes [or when it wears off after about 1-1.5 hours] one could drink more should they wish. Friends don't keep pestering/cajoling me to either eat or drink more, as they did initially.
  21. I can't fathom why some are talking cost of pills/vitamins when in fact they should be eating about 1/4 to 1/3 what they used to. What's wrong with this picture?
  22. Like others have said: Doctor or nutricianist SHOULD have given you a list & yes the bloodwork will show up what you need to be taking, if deficient
  23. Fluid in lungs is a potential complication of many surgical procedures & was mentioned by my surgeon prior to surgery Shortness of breath & nausea can cause gagging & one risks damaging sutures/stitches/staples if this is the case. If as bad as suggested why have you not consulted your doctor/s? My surgeon gave me his personal cell phone number & suggested he be called @ any time should the need arise. It didn't. Nothing like this surgery has immediate feelings of euphoria & well being [after the anesthetic wears off completely]. You will feel better as most of us did some earlier than others. BUT for now get the doctor you used to check things out & advise then let us know what the result is.
  24. Have you considered the title of your thread is misleading? You asked the questions below then get bent out of shape by a robust, down to earth reply. Don't go asking questions like "have I made a huge mistake" because there won't be many on here who are going to answer yes, that's for sure If you can't eat or drink as you are supposed to be doing NOW, then talk to the professionals who you employed to operate & should currently be looking after & treating you properly.
  25. Not your body it is in the head....you must get to thinking that it will never be like it was, before surgery. Your mind needs to understand that you are in control & now you can only take on board small amounts of food BUT you will feel great/satisfied. My food tastes changed so as to be nearly reversed. Stuff I really liked are no longer on the menu & other things I didn't like are right up there. Only you [& your thinking] can make it better & if not coping, have your surgeon refer you to a psych for a session or two.
