    I am alone in this

Finding a new family might help! Dying is absolutely stupid stuff.... If you are 100% on board with what needs to be done you will be laughing @ all of these folk in a year or so after you have had a successful surgery

    Calories Don't Matter?

My doctor said exactly this.....don't count or watch anything except cm's/inches & have a fairly simple exercise regime. It has worked in my case. This was explained to me as not having enough calories will cause stall [stopping weight loss] & in some cases even cause gain, as your body is not getting enough/starving & knows it. As I just said I have never been told all this carbs, calories, Protein stuff just to eat enough of anything that pleases, with some common sense balance & importantly, if you don't feel hungry keep your mouth shut & politely ignore peer pressure to conform with others eating volumes/habits.
  3. Really? I have seen this so often even this video But that seems more related to lap band than sleeve IMO. It seems we are all different when it comes to this drinking before & afterward business. My practical experience is I can drink right up to starting to eat. No need to wait. Food recently chewed & in my pouch/stomach, rather than being washed through by drinking actually blocks the Fluid if i try to drink too early & either the fluid or the food or part of both is ejected into the mouth. Not one of those great feelings but easily avoided. I wait until the fullness feeling has dissipated & that is usually around an hour after eating. Why bother pushing the boundaries for no real gain. Just get used to the new you!.

    What foods play well together?

Same here....back to basics with small simple grills & fresh garden salads not smothered in all those creamy sauces, I find to be most appealing/satisfying. The big brekkie I have can be nearly enough for the day, so some balance throughout the rest of the day not because of hunger but to ensure a reasonable calorie intake. I have developed a sweet tooth I never had before, so always leave enough room for a small simple desert maybe 15-30 minutes after finishing the main.

Help need breakfast ideas for traveling

Most fast food joint breakfasts can work fine depending on what you like. Just pick what you choose apart, eat the egg & other parts you like, then throw the rest [wrap, bun etc] in the trash

    Pizza

Skimmed through this long thread & Sharon 1964's statement [page 4?] is what we should be aiming for....being selective in what one chooses to put in their mouth, totally detached from food related emotional considerations. That being said we have homemade pizza from scratch weekly & we need to take into account other family members needs & wants.
  8. 10-15 years prior to WLS surgery I regularly ended up in emergency about 4-5 hours after eating/usually about 2am in the morning. The symptoms were as if I was being pumped up & there was no way to release this blowing up feeling which was extremely painful, distressing & debilitating. Every time tests, x-rays etc were taken but nothing could be pin pointed the cause. Talk of twisted bowel etc but nothing concrete was found & the only immediate solution was a shot of morphine & near instant relief ensued. Was so bad I stopped eating regular evening meals. Had an emergency physician in KCMO suggest immediate surgery, with no diagnostic cause apparent. Glad that poor decision making & cutting never eventuated! Into this a couple of years, I had an apparently unrelated hernia surgery. The bloating problem disappeared. So one might reasonably assume the hernia was causing this other digestive related issue. Definitely worth exploring if the symptoms are similar & it sounds they could be so.

    Funny biz travel moment

Try lox, cream cheese, onion, capers & finished off with greens....basil, rocket etc.
  10. No problem usually in that area but recent un-related major surgery, associated opiate drugs plus laying around in hospital a few days, brought a similar issue forward. Not unusual apparently! I regularly drink a fair bit of lactose free whole milk [self doctored using lacteze] to alleviate the trots, so guess what? Had a glass of un-doctored whole milk & was there within 1/2 hour....all gone & no more issues, except the lingering surgery pain.

    Weight gain

Beer by itself will not cause the problem but everything you put in your mouth added up does. One must choose to cut back on food or beer & we all know what is better for us. Your question about going back to scratch, I don't know. Looking for an easy way to achieve what you did in 2011 is not the best option. Self control is helpful so start adjusting stuff as one would need to do when trying to lose weight without surgery. It will always work, when motivated & thinking clearly.
  12. All good advice especially unreal expectations by NUTS.. Always remember that it requires the right intake to loose weight & starving has the opposite effect.. Good real fresh food including fish meat & eggs is better than any package powders & processed stuff. Chewing is GOOD!
  13. @@JamieLogical Is on the money IMO. What about daily exercise? http://www.zmescience.com/medicine/burned-calories-when-lazy-064346/ We don't burn too many calories laying down, watching TV, sitting typing etc. v/s walking & even just standing. Body & weight reflects what one puts in their mouth v/s what gets used up in daily energy expended. Edit is: Oh I did miss part of the OP's post about 'not enough stomach removed'. Good instruction from both nutritionist & doctor should have told her like they did me & others that if one doesn't keep their mouth shut the new pouch will grow back/stretch to it's original size or bigger then you're on a slippery down slope.

    Hunger!

Similarly qualified Psychs here.... I have seen no one mention meds they may be taking for other conditions that can cause all kind of munchy & weight gaining effects to the brain. Is that a possibility?

    Hunger!

Where I currently live these weight loss type Doctor's always have a team & psych is always part of that team. These psych folk can be very helpful before & after, even if you don't think they could make any difference. I only saw mine once before surgery & haven't since. After Vietnam I had a psych in the US DVA who helped introduced me to CBT when I was @ a terrible cross road. CBT was something I heard about in Psych when doing my teaching qualification, but took little notice of. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-mindful-self-express/201102/lose-the-weight-change-how-you-relate-food CBT has brought my life full circle to where I think positively & am not unlike what I was like before experiencing Vietnam both in the head & now weight, body & self image. You are doing great so far, but why not ask your doctor, if discussing your position with a psych experienced with weight loss clients may help you ride this rough patch you are concerned about? You know what is happening may turn things around & kicking another goal in the right direction

    Hunger!

You are not long out & it will get easier as you get into a new way of life. Try different things especially things you find you really like that are not disguised hand grenades. Have you discussed your 'hunger feelings' with your psych? We are all very different, because from the beginning of mushy stuff until now I have never been or felt hungry. A number of times I have indicated IMO a major problem is what has been learned upstairs telling folk they should be eating not what their 'new' stomach is telling them. Should be eating, is not hunger! Of course one must eat to continue losing weight. I know, as not feeling hungry I cut back & actually started gaining weight, after stalling. What seems to work well for me is a couple of multigrain breakfast wheat bix with whole lactose free milk no sweetener then about 1 hour later [even though not hungry] I'll cook an egg any style & a couple of bacon rashers & have on thin toast with butter. Sometimes homemade corn beef hash instead of bacon, other times baked Beans [not the sweetened rubbish]. Home cooked everything is best but Italian canned baked beans are really nice, low in sugar & Protein loaded [from memory these may be Trident brand in the US. Try the 99C stores]. Feeling hungry how about 2 tablespoons of Baked beans cold from fridge & can anytime. Throughout the day about 1 litre of whole lactose free ice decaf coffee no sweetener & that could do for the day....but there is always fruit [apple, banana, cherries, grapes] that I eat, not because of hunger but they seem to fit in with what I like & keeps me on the straight & narrow. Cocktail hour & a couple of beers or ciders over ice, then when finished a small garden salad with Japanese sesame dressing. Of course there is some variety & I feel no emptiness or being famished if these are the right terms, after going to the gym or daily long bike rides....that is when Water comes in handy. @ the end of the day between yourself, doctor, psych & nutritionist I'm sure you can get this issue sorted with a little adaptation & experimentation....it is early times & now is when it is imperative to get things sorted right for the long term. Failure is never an option!
  18. Well that other person has a lot to learn & will stay pretty big or even bigger. As with our skin, shove too much stuff continually into it [& that stomach pouch] & both will grow to accommodate that excess stuff ingested. Most of us want to avoid going the same route that got us here in the first place, do we not?
  19. That has been my sleeve experience to a T. As I have said a number of times some stuff I liked before, I don't now & stuff I didn't like [milk is one] are now good. Someone else mentioned greasy food like fries plus horrible Aussie sausages & the smell of these @ a cookout etc.make me gag. I think it may all be in the head?

    Alcohol... ????

I drink beer or dry cider most days [in moderation of course].. I pour both these over ice & that removes much carbonation. Most English beers are carbonated much less & less filling than all the domestic type offerings. They have a nitrogen/CO2 gas mix & one can drink that when out as straight draught or from cans that have widgets in them [when the tab is pulled there will be a whoosh as the beer become lightly carbonated & really creamy]. Then pour into your glass. Easily identifiable cans usually 500ml @ the liquor store/s.

    Metabolism/Beta Blocker

When my loss stalled/slowed early on I was told exactly the same thing. Also that was when I was told by my doctor to forget about carbs, calories & just stop counting as the cm/inches would let you know!.
  22. You can eat anything you like, in moderation In my experience some things you liked before you won't like now & things you may not have liked before now taste great. e.g I didn't drink any milk, but in the early non solid stages found I liked full milk iced non sweetened decaf coffee & now drink about 1 litre most days. Obviously in most people's case it is not just about 'me' unless they live a single existence, so we need to think of others & they should not suffer, due to our limitations. I have said a few times on here, my doctor after about 6 months, weight loss & blood work indicated "forget counting carbs or calories or anything else' just keep an eye on cm/inches. Now Pizza for example is our Friday night @ home special: Friday afternoon I go & have 2 or 3 pints of Kilkenny beer over about 2 hours with my buddies, then come home make & cook a 14" multi topping [of anything] pizza from scratch. 1 portion is plenty for me & my wife 2 or 3 slices, with 1/2 the pizza left for Snacks on other days. The secret I found after surgery was & I'll say it again, if you are not hungry there is no need to keep shoving stuff in your mouth. Also I found that even after drinking beer or iced coffee one can eat a normal sleeve size meal straight away, no worries. But don't try drinking anything during or well after the meal. I find about 1.5 hours is about right. Desert or sweets: Anything in moderation, if you can control yourself. Eating with friends: Stop drinking everything before starting to eat. Do not drink anything with food! Too much food or too big a plate, then leave what you don't need, & indicate you are really enjoying the food [do this when first into the meal] & re-iterate when announcing you have had sufficient & would like to save enough space for a small desert. Have a small desert with the others & often I indicate I would love some desert but would they mind if I took it home with us. In the fridge & have as a morning snack then let them know it was really beautiful. After 1 or 2 times they don't bother trying to force more food or drink on you.
  23. My wife & no one else.... I had surgery for gall bladder [this surgeon recommended I have someone else look @ doing a sleeve] then got golden staph & weight was dropping off. Saw sleeve surgeon & was operated on the week after staph all clear. So friends & neighbours saw nothing out of the ordinary except I eat about 1/4 of what I ate before, knock back second helpings etc.
  24. Time for a rethink! Having this surgery demands we do this & change learned BAD habits. What got you [& us] to the knife was to solve a problem primarily caused by what we were putting in our mouth. Was it not? One must assume G2 is flavoured Water. Water is fine & what our body needs plenty of....what added elements/flavours that water [or any of our foods] has needs to be well scrutinized.
  25. Experience tells me this will definitely slow down weight loss.
