4'11 180 lbs... Insurance/self pay combo ?
Shastasmom replied to auntjanny's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm from Canada and there is mo way I will have insurance cover anything. I'm going toTJ Mexico for a sleeve Sept 4th. I have carried this weight give or take for 35 years. As I get older it's harder to lose and harder to live with the extra 50-60 lbs. so, as of Sept 4th I will be sleeved and hopefully on a losing streak for good! My surgery is $4400.00 plus flights. I'm using travel points so in the end with my husband traveling with me should be around $5000.00. Not bad since I've paid that plus more in weight loss programs over the past 20 years. -
If you just did Post Op diet without surgery would you still have lost the weight?
Shastasmom replied to Elizabeth21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
15 years ago i did the optifast diet for 4 months. 3 shakes per day, nothing, NOTHING solid! I lost 45 lbs and looked great. I then gained it all back within 2 years!!! I spent $2500.00 on the diet, didnt learn a thing and I'm heavier now then ever. I know i will always have to be careful what i eat but im praying if i treat my sleeve well, not over stuff it i will be able to keep the weight off. Studies say 95% of people who lose on a diet will regain, ost if mot all the weight. Thats why im having surgery. Its drastic but I've struggled for too many years yoyoing!!! -
September Surgery Date Set
Shastasmom replied to jewel9594's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm booked for Sept 4th with Dr. Ortiz at a lighter me in TJ Mexico. I'm excited but getting really nervous. -
I have the flex and like it a lot. Just a caution though, I lost my first one, it came undone and I never found it. A friend also lost two of hers! The good thing is fitbit actually replaced two of hers and mine for no charge. Apparently this is quite common for the flex. Hopefully they will come out with a better bracelet option soon!

What are your Pre-Op diet guidlines?
Shastasmom replied to mamaofmatthew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start mine on Aug 22. For 2 weeks I have 2 high protein shakes and 1 meal, low fat protein, and a salad for supper. 3 days prior, a laxative the liquid only. -
I'm only 15 lbs lighter than you but Im 5 ft tall. My BMI is around 35-36. I am booked for sept 4 th in Mexico I'm not heavy enough to qualify for surgery where I live so I am payiny for my own surgery. My desidion has come down to the fact that I have carried 50 extra lbs for the past 35 years. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I was thin. I'm now 48 and im really feeling the extra weight. My knees ache, I snore horribly and I have zero energy or stamina. I have done every weight lose program out there. Shakes, pills, needles, you name it! I've lost 40-50 lbs but always gain it back and am now higher than have ever been. I'm scared I'm getting really close to 200 lbs and have decided I cannot continue this cycle. Im nervous but anxious to get started! If you can honestly look at yourself and know you have done everything you can to lose weight the I say go for it! Whether you have to lose 50 or 200 the struggle is the same! The negative self talk, starvation and the feeling of failure is so defeating! Good luck!

I have been searching the boards but can't seem to find an answer. What is dumping? Other than the obvious....

It is amazing what just 30lbs can do...
Shastasmom replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Fantastic! I love to hear everyone's success. I may be closer to my "goal" but my struggles with 60 lbs have been as consuming and I love to hear the success of those ahead of me. I can't wait to cross my leg over my knee and not have it flip off and slam into the person in front of me on a plane! -

Shastasmom replied to Smwtwins's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

Personal Goals List for post-op (surgery tomorrow)
Shastasmom replied to latido's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you. A lot of you goals really hit home. My list is smaller but here goes, To be able to walk around without my shorts scrunching up between my legs. Sit without being aware of my roll Be able to navigate stairs and not fear falling again. Get pictures taken with the gift card hubby bought me 4 years ago Feel good in my scuba gear See desire I my husbands eyes again Lose fat around "certain" body parts so it doesn't look so swollen and puffy. Be able to quickly wipe deodorant quickly on my armpits, not roll it on in swaths. Not constantly obsess about body odor. Wear a hat.... Right now my big fat face looks like a melon when i wear a hat. Feel good when we go on vacation. Not hot, frumpy and fat Wow, this really makes me realize how much i need to lose 60 lbs! Thank you -
As a habitual dieter for the past 35 years I have tried all forms of this. Unfortunately I have realized I don't like frozen or left overs . I plan on preparing meat balls, hamburgar patties and small portions of sauces and freeziing them uncooked. Then my hubby who cannot cook can remove the food and prepare with my directions. I will freeze all meats individually so we can take out one portion and prepare as required. This includes chicken breast, steak, pork etc. I also plan on having a menu for each week. Then I don't have to think of what to make for supper each night. My hubby would be happy with meat and salad every night. I on the other hand want comfort foods with sauce and cheese. I think if I can stop thinking of what to make for supper I will have more success. I also plan on making a lot of crust less quiche:)

I had a breast reduction done about 5 years ago. Honestly, I guess it wasn't painful because i cant remember much pain. It was day surgery at 2 pm home by 6. Recovery was really easy. Ive always had very dense breasts not loose or hanging skin. Now they are just smaller. Its pretty minor as was my tummy tuck! Im more concerned about the idea of a sleeve now. Im scared of the surgery and the recovery. Im planning on going to mexico to have it done, not sure of the dates yet. Please share your experience! Im so scared this wont be the right decision.

Alberta girl question: Why go to Mexico?
Shastasmom replied to Meltzy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I won't qualify for AHC paid surgery. My BMI is 35. I want to lose over 60 lbs. to do the surgery here it will cost me over $30,000.00. In Mexico, $4400.00 plus flight. Air miles for just the taxes, $150.00. -
Hi,How were you able to get reimbursed through Alberta Health? I have been through the weight wise program here in Fort McMurray but didnt have a high enough BMI for the Optifast program nor surgery. I have decided to book for Mexico, and will be going down in July! I am classified as obese, but not obese enough... LMAO This really angers me! I'm 5' tall and weigh almost 190. I too won't qualify for the surgery or help from AB health care so I am considering going to Mexico as well. Did anyone get extra insurance in case you have complications? I have so many questions! I have struggles with my weight for 35 years! Never have I lost and maintained! I eat well, very little sugar only whole grains and lean meats, low carb... Argg , I'm so frustrated. If I keep up the way I am I will soon be over 200. Please help me through this, I honestly feel I don't gave a choice. I will only keep gaining as I get older.

Hi all, I'm from just outside of Edmonton and would love to chat with some of you. I have not made the decision for sure weather or not to do this. I have struggled for 35 years to lose and maintain but always gain back and more. If I continue this way I know I will suffer the consequences soon. I don't qualify for surgery in alberta because I'm not heavy enough so I'm considering going to Mexico. I'd love to hear more from people who have actually gone to Mexico and your experience.
