  1. Gotta love expectations... As already stated (I am not trying to be mean) but to have an expectation on how you're body will react to the surgery is crazy... Unless of course you've had this done before. Just because Dixie lost 10 her first month or Jaimie lost 25 his first month does not equate to what you will lose. Each body has been treated differently all its life. You cannot base it off of someone else. Your loss is based off your situation, what you eat or have eaten, your exercise or lack of, and not just right now... But all your life, what you've put in to it. Dies that make any sense? So stop worrying about where you THINK you should be and concentrate on what you KNOW you should be doing and let your body work it out. Along this topic, there will be stalls.. Know it. This is when your body is recalibrating. Let it do it. Stay on the program. It will happen. Think about how kids grow... They get chubby and stumpy then sprout like weeds and thinning out. We will lose pounds on a scale then you will lose inches from your body. Then the pounds will move again. This cycle continues until your BODY chooses to stop (if your following the plan). If you are working out, remember you need more Protein and calories, our your body thinks you are going into starvation mode... All of this can be confirmed with your doc or but... To which I strongly encourage open communication with... Peace friends.
  2. I agree with Kindle. This is your journey. We can tell you what works for us as individuals, but that may not work for you. I don't know what diet food is, I don't believe I eat diet food. I do use some sugar free items, however, I always have due to the prevalence of diabetes in my family. Is that what you are taking about for diet food? I use Face for sour cream most of the time, not for diet reasons, but for the added protein boost. Not to mention half the time you can't taste the difference depending on what you are cooking. I have gf who have been sleeved and they are choosing to only purchase those lean cuisine or whatever... Do I agree with their choice... No, but that is again, their choice and I don't knock them. Just as they don't knock me for getting anal in making meatball by the batch and freeze my servings, soups and freezing them... And so on just so I have a healthy quick choice when I forget to pull something out. Remember it is your journey. We can only offer our experience to you.
  3. Pac-woman.. You will be able to eat more, statistically, around the 4th month, when your body starts registering the surgery; you may experience some hair loss as well as notice your taste buds are pretty much back to normal and you are able to eat more. Note keep in mind, 1 cup of soup verses 1/4 cup of cottage cheese verses 3 bites of steak... The more dense the protein the less of a portion will fill you up. I am over 2 years out, in maintenance, and east fairly normal. At least most people don't question my portions.
  4. Viiki30 I followed my docs plan with slight variation. He wanted 3 meals 2 shakes a at. I did 6 small meals a day. It was the only way I could get enough protein in. I had a hard time with any shake or protein powder made into a shake. The biggest thing during the losing, no matter how slow you are losing, remembering that it isn't always the number on the scale. Inches and how you feel in your clothes means more. As for that icky powder... Learning to cook with it helped a great deal
  5. Not key your took... Let your tool... Lol
  6. Newbies... Relax... Key your took do it's job and don't obsess over the numbers in a scale. Follow your plan, step on a scale once every couple weeks... Measure once a month... It will happen.. Now I have been sleeved over 2 years.. I lost a boat load (287 to 115) and an currently struggling with a 15 pound weight gain. Don't sound like much, however it seems to be a huge difference in clothes. At 115 for over a year, a size 2; to a size 10????? In a matter of 3-4 months??? This is the craziest thing ever! Sorry, just needed to vent.

Lang0415, Water will help the dryness... But I also found Johnson & Johnson baby gel oil helped. I still lather it on every other day. In the beginning it was every day. What is your Protein source? If I might ask...

    Eat MORE to lose weight!

500 calories long term is crazy. You will be surprised one day to see you are actually taking in 1000 or 1500 calories! It does happen! Each of us gets there at different times in our journey. For me it was after a year and a half. I didn't realize it until I picked up charting my meals again... Then poof. There it was! I have been in maintenance for about 10 months. In the last 3 months I gained 15 pounds. They say this is normal... I will accept that. But I have also begun charting again to ensure I am not slipping. You are right it is about balance. But during your honeymoon phase, take advantage of low calories and moderate exercise pounds and inches... Because once your body decides that phase is over, it does get harder. And it gets harder for a couple of reasons... 1) you've begun to eat some of your old favorites a little too often 2) you've learned how to eat.. Therefore cheat on your body, thus going against your journey s plan. 3) stop exercising or never start. Start habits early into the journey, know that your eating well continually change and improve, taste buds change. But all of these things, WE have control over. It's a matter of grabbing the reins and doing it. My life, for example, is very balanced. ( except I would rather be working than looking for a job for hours every day) but my family, friends, and gym or weigh my time spent obsessing on my weight, food, or when is the next time I can eat or drink.

    Protein help

Suzemuze hit it on the head. I don't know how far you are out, but I will tell you, I struggled the first year and then some to get more than an average of 45g Protein in a day. I am over two years out and still struggle to get 60 in. I east primarily all protein in one form or another. Not so much in veggies or fruit. I DO however, take many Vitamins and my blood work is aces. But this is my story. This is my body. You and everyone reading this will find what works for them. Get enough in to keep your every level high, keep dizzy spells away, and keep in communication with you doc or but it possible surgeons office depending on your given situation.
  11. Stinab... STOP LOOKING AT THE SCALE. The scale is not your God our Idol. It is simply a tool of measure. Like a tape measure. Did you measure yourself before? 1) your journey will not be like saralost30moreThanMe did or JohnnyONLYlost23 did. Our bodies are different, culture, food intake, food desires, past habits, new habits, types of food eaten, exercise, no exercise, protein variety, carb intake or lack of... Can you see the difference? 2) your plan is probably different from Betty's plan and Johnny s plan... Follow your plan. 3) it's OK to lose fast. IT'S OK TO LOSE SLOW. ---- to that end what isn't ok, is to think there is something wrong when you are not where you thought you 'should be' because how do you really know where your supposed to be? Have you done this before? 4) there will be many stalls... Don't get frustrated... Think of it like this... Did you gain it all over night or in a few short months? No.... It took along time to get where you were. We lose opposite of how we gain. The miracle is our bodies is this.. As kids, we got chubby, then had a verticle growth spurt. Our bodies will drop "pounds" then take a time out to adjust. During this adjustment, it will be losing inches. These time it's can be weeks or months. It's OK... You have done the most important thing... Realized you wanted a life change. You've been sleeved, now treat your body right and be thrilled with the smallest gain... Like crossing your legs, tying your shoes, being able to see cheek bones or a collar bone... No new achievement is too small to celebrate!

    Eat MORE to lose weight!

Hi, I newsstand your frustration. In the early months we each need to do what our bodies allow. Some if us cannot east enough in a meal to sustain energy while others feel no restriction at all and can almost eat as they did before surgery. This typically will get better as each person heals. For some (like me) it can take over a year and others will be able to get to the 3 times a day regiments in short order (like a friend I'd mine... 1 month) While I agree we should be supportive of all our newbies as well as our old folks (bit meaning age) we also need to consider the tone of help we are giving. None of us should promote one treatment overt another. Our Doctors are each different as we are, they have their treatment plan, and they hope for it to work for all... We KNOW that will never be the case. Bottom line encourage the discussion between pt and doc. If surgery was done in Mexico. . week then suggest their primary... It a new primary. Use your own experiences as examples.. Not gospel.. And last but for me most importantly... If someone falls off the wagon, help them back on! Don't bask then or make them feel any more guilt than they probably already do... This is a new journey for all of us no two journeys will be the same. But we can support one another Peace out and thanks fit letting me rant with you!
  13. I think on the app (for android at least) to be able to find your "groups" a little easier. Currently, I need to go through my email and follow the link. This gets frustrating at times.

I will be there in Fridley! LindaLue... The hungry is normal... With this meeting so early out, actual hunger is rate. More commonly it is either 1) acid faking like hunger; or 2) it's needing more fluid in it... Water. When the surgery is done, they remove the part of the tummy that has always had acid and food sitting in it. With that gone, you now have a new baby tummy that isn't used to having much in it or on it. It will do weird things as it gets accustomed to working. Sip sip sip, if it is a constant or comes and goes with some burning pain, see your doc. It may be reflux. That is normal. He may suggest a protonic or prilosec. Again this is normal. Good luck and hope to set you on the 15th!
