A couple of years ago I went to visit my step daughter and my grandson said "Grandma are you having a baby?" well that really got me although I laughed at the comment, his mother was mortified. I never forgot that, then last year I went to see my primary doctor and he said my diabetes was getting worse and I should consider bariatric surgery and he referred me to an informational meeting, I went and did not do anything for 4 months except think about it. In March I went to see my doctor again and this time I asked him to refer me to the bariatric program orientation and it was the next day so I went and that is how I started my journey. I lost 27lbs before my surgery on May 28 and have lost another 18 as of today.
I must be a very lucky person because I had a great experience with the surgery so far, none of the issues I read about in these forums.
I was in the hospital for one night, I was walking as soon as I open my eyes in my room. I never had nauseas, heart burn, constipation, and almost no pain, I took vicodin for 3 nights before going to bed and one day regular tylenol during the day. Three days after the surgery I could walk 2 miles and continued to increase, tomorrow it will be 4 weeks since the surgery and I walk over 5 miles a day, I usually walk at lunch time and in the evening. I eat 1/4 cup three times per day and drink at least 64oz of clear liquids, I am very happy with my decision and since I got out of the hospital my sugar levels have been normal without any medication.
I found Bariatric Pal because a patient in the waiting room at the hospital mentioned it, I like reading the forums and reading about people's journeys, besides being inspirational I get a lot of great information from more experience sleevers.
