Plastic surgeon in Boston
amazon replied to Meintraining's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I'm scheduled with her for 12/9. Can't wait ! Glad to hear of someone else directly with a great experience :-) -
Hard to believe it's been over a year! Sounds like you've sure had some added challenges along the way. Glad to see you're doing well. You'll get there!! My highest weight was 265. When I started the program in 2014 I was 224. I dropped just below 200 the day of surgery. I made goal of138 the end of July 2015. I maintain between 131-134. (I creep up I buckle down again, lol). I'm having plastics early December. (Insurance will cover the panni, yay!).

I had my consult and was very impressed and comfortable with the surgeon. We really clicked. She's a perfectionist and relatable. It lasted about two hours. Even though I've been at my ideal weigh for a couple of months she's very ok with moving forward with skin removal. There's no way to know if my insurance will cover it new year which is why I'm looking in to it now. I asked both my WLS surgeon and her if I should gamble on the insurance and wait and they both said no. So I'm having abdomiplasty, panni, and arms done on 12/9. Pics were taken for insurance. That was weird... If the girls just needed a lift, I would have done that instead of the arms. (Really a better option considering the tummy tuck and needing to use your arms to get up afterwards). But since there's really no fat left behind, I'll need implants. She said she would do a lift at the same time, but not implants. So that will be some time next year. My home work between now and then is to collect pics of what I want. Lol. So for those wondering, tummy tuck is $5k (not covered), and arms are $5k. Girls (silicone) are $7k. The panni would be about $7k because it will cover the night in the hospital. I told my husband the prices and he was thrilled. He was expecting 30-40k. I'm like, geez, that was easy!! Lol

I called it getting HBO installed , lol. I had to take a pill to relax the cervix prior to the appt. Guess that worked because the "installation" wasn't too awful. Not pleasant, but bearable. It was over quickly. I'm not sharing this to turn off anyone from getting one...but the problem I had came afterwards. I don't know how I drove home. By the time I got to my car cramping had just started. It got worse as I drove home. It was really terrible! I spent the afternoon curled up in a ball in misery. Been fine since. It's done its job. But the few hours after the procedure were very unpleasant for me.

Stalls are part of it, in my experience at least - I lost in steps. But you sound like you've answered the question. Get yourself moving/exercising more and back on track. Back to basics - Protein first, tracking food, Water water water...you know how it goes, lol. I bet that will get the scale moving in the right direction again :-) If I look back at the year it took me, the weight loss was pretty consistent. It didn't stop at 6 months, but it was work! You've done an awesome job!! Keep it going :-)

I think as long as you are winning the battle 99% of the time you'll be fine. That's my approach any way. We're not perfect...I know I'm not! ???? -
I just switched to Fairlife myself. My supermarket just started carrying it. It's great!!

About 6 weeks ago on a whim I got a Bodygym from QVC. I never buy anything from there...just figured it was worth a try. Best thing ever. I'm not kidding. I use every day. My muscles have muscles, lol. Noticed a big difference in three weeks. I'm in New England so I wanted something to keep me going when the snow piles up. (Besides shoveling of course). I hate going to the gym, but I know I will. But I'd rather use that time on the treadmill for cardio when I have to move my exercise in doors. I'm 53 by the way. Have had two shoulder surgeries myself. No issues.

I was sleeved at 52 (two months shy of (52). Turned 53 yesterday. Best I've felt in 30 years. Yes, it's not unreasonable to think you'll feel waaay better!

wow, you said a lot of things that go through my head! Following...

I golf, and honestly couldn't imagine swinging a club at full force/speed/rotation at 2 weeks post op. Maybe physically you wouldn't do any damage...(I question that)...but take it easy. You use your core a lot to golf. You are still healing. For example, if your doc said no heaving lifting for 6 weeks, I'd put it in that category. Just my opinion :-) Hit'em straight!!

Poll for those at least 6 months PostOp
amazon replied to Barry W's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My procedure was 14 months ago. My starting BMI was 36. My current BMI is 22 I have no regrets and am so happy with my decision. Have my health and my life back. -
Mine is still noisy at times. If it's while I'm talking with someone and they notice it, I just shush it, apologize, maybe laugh, and carry on. It's no big deal.

I've snacked on some dry cereal occasionally. Also added <1/4 cup to some yogurt, just to have some crunch. But it's really a very infrequent thing. A very conscious decision to have the extra carbs. I don't think carbs are evil. I just think too many are, especially if they make me feel bad. Can't imagine having a bowl of cereal with milk! How things have changed

August post op sleevers: Check in

I thought I'd post another update. There's been some big challenges this past week. My husband had stroke #2 (the first was May 2014). He's doing ok. We hope and pray he recovers 100% again. But boy, it sure makes you realize how important your health is. Our son is in the military (Air Force). As a matter of fact, he was deployed the day of my surgery. I remember how upset I was that I didn't get to say good bye to him because I was unconscious when my husband got his call, lol. Because of health issues with his wife, his leave has been eaten up with her relocation to his current base and treatments. Haven't seen him since their wedding in June 2015. He was so shook up from his Dad's second stroke, he took emergency leave and together they came home. We were over joyed to see them, even though it was only for a long weekend. The look on his face when he saw me at the airport was priceless. I caught a glimpse of it through the tears The last time he saw me in person, and now... Having my husband be OK, and my family here these last few days - I am truly blessed. -
How do you keep your protein shakes cold while sipping on them ?
amazon replied to Dub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use a Tervis tumbler. Top rack safe. But real easy to quickly hand wash too. -
The change in energy has been amazing. It wasn't right away for me. I was 51 at the time of surgery. The first few months I felt a little tired. I'm sure I was adjusting and still healing. Then slowly that all changed. Can't say exactly when. It's not like someone flipped a switch. But I can say at over a year out and now almost 53, I feel like I'm in my 20's. Best. Thing. Ever.
