  1. you bet! I had no issue post-op because I had no problem with downing my shakes. Once transitioned to solid foods, I had no issues with anything I tried (I was very fortunate).

    Being put under

I've had plenty of elective surgeries over the years. The best part is the little cocktail they give you - makes the gurney journey relaxing. For the VSG surgery they hadn't given me my happy shot for some reason. I was about to be wheeled to the OR and said goodbye to my husband, and I think that's when it hit me (crap - last chance to run!). The anestesiologist must have seen my face and quickly gave me the shot. I was so much better after that!
  3. First - Happy Bithday!!! Second - Do not let someone who doesn't even know you, or anyone else really, define your self worth. YOU ARE WORTH IT. I'm sure it will all work out, and you'll do great!
  4. I'm sorry for what he said to you. I'm guessing it hurt/bothered you or you wouldn't have posted about it. My hubs isn't exactly a blood & guts guy. That stuff bothers him. Whereas I love that stuff - probably should have had a career in the medical field. Anyhow, although he would not want to be seeing such "ick", he'd never say something like that. Ever.

    Insulting compliments

I get all sorts of "compliments". Today a colleague walked in to the breakroom at work while I was standing at the sink. My back was to her. She says "I didn't know it was you - you don't even look the same from behind!". Um, thanks? I just said "that's my master plan...I don't want people to spot me". My husband reminds me to just say "thank you" and move on. But some of the things people say...I just SMH Of everything said, I can tell it's always been from the "right place". People are genuinely happy for me.
  6. Interesting concept. It will take years to get reliable data. If I had a choice between the two (implanted stent device or VSG) I'd still want the life long tool (VSG).

    Quest bars!

I probably shouldn't, but I use these as my "sweet". I'm stuck on the double chocolate chunk right now. They take care of me for wanting something yummy/sweet, and help a lot with making my Protein goal.
  8. Welcome! This site is a great resource. Glad you're doing your homework I would suggest going to more than one surgeon's seminar - if that's an option. It's also a good idea to talk to folks who have gone through it, as in go to the local support group. I know you'll get info from folks here, but talking in person to people, and hearing their experiences in that environment is useful, IMO. Some would say 40-50 lbs to lose isn't enough to justify the surgery. But everyone's situation is different. You have a bunch of health problems that *could* be rectified, or certainly improved, by WLS. It really comes down to whether you can live the lifestyle - for the rest of your life. Because I can tell you, it's as much of a head game as a physical change. In no way is it a magic cure. It takes constant work. Your relationship with food will have to change. But eating well is still a part of my life. I just don't curl up with a bag of chips, or bowl of ice-cream any more. I'll still go out for a nice dinner...I just have plenty of left overs I think I'd be a little concerned if the surgeon was pushing one type of surgery over another. It could be that he/she doesn't have experience in the others, but it's a red flag. You want to ask lots of questions about the surgeon's experience. Personally, I went with the sleeve. It was the best choice for me. So far it's worked out well, but I'm only 6 months out. In that time I've come off of my diabetes meds, and my diabetes is officially in remission. I was only on metformin for it and it was reasonably controlled. I've also just had the best blood panel results I've ever had. So I'm quite happy with my decision. You're doing the right thing by not just running blindly in to this. Ask us lots of questions - we love to share

    STALLS

The way it was explained to me by my team is that it's your body taking time to adjust. It's under a lot of stress during this time. When it's ready, it will lose again.

    STALLS

I've had a couple of short ones (3 weeks). My longest was 7 weeks. But it broke like the others. I think getting through that long one really instilled my faith in what I'm doing.

    Bathing Suits

I got one on swimsuitsforall.com. It's a one piece with some support. They have lots on there, may be worth a look. The prices are reasonable, too. I wasn't going to pay $75 for one in the store...
  12. My 6 mo appointment is next week. Drew the labs yesterday. I hope my numbers are good! I have to say I'm a bit frustrated. I had a long seven week stall that just ended about three weeks ago. Now it seems I'm in another stall. I really wanted to be closer to my goal at six months. But I know I'm better off now than if I'd not had the surgery. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say about my progress at the check up.
  13. I started some where between month 1 and 2. It stopped as quickly as it started in month 5. So glad it's over!! I hope you're one of the lucky ones that doesn't have to go through it :-)

    Does it get better?

It WILL get better - trust me Your new tummy is still swollen. The first month or so was the toughest for me. Then shortly after, things started getting more normal (a new normal ). You'll get the hang of not drinking with your meal and afterward for x-amount of time. You're going through the worst of it - hang in there...it's totally worth it.

yes, you will hear from them. The process seemed a bit slow for me, but I' not sure if the Dr's office was the hold up submitting the script.

    Does running get easier!?

Thanks! Makes perfect sense to me It just so happens I'm seeing my ortho in one week - a follow up from getting a cortisone shot in my right hip (bursa). It's been much better since then (hence the running). I can at least have him check out my knee and see if he'll send me for some PT.

    Does running get easier!?

Thanks @@Chrystee @@deedadumble @@jess9395 I looked up the symptoms related to the IT band. It's the opposite of what I experienced. My pain is on the inside vs. the outside. hmmm. I have flat feet and I do have orthotics, although when I wear boots, etc. I don't use them. But I wear sneakers with them most days at work (yah, stylish I know - finding shoes that fit orthotics is a royal pain). Fortunately my knee has improved quite a bit from rest. That's a good thing I think. I plan to go get fitted for some running shoes in the very near future. I have a few options in my area (Marathon Sports, New Balance...). I think I need to do this before I do more running.
