    I BINGED

Looks like others may learn from my mistake. I’m happy to hear that. It is definitely possible to eat all that in a day especially if you’re not getting your fluids. Like I said, if I had been pushing fluids, I wouldn’t have been able to. So be careful newbies! For those that asked, I’m a little over 4 months out and down 80 pounds since 5 days preop. I’ve considered going back to the very basics but I don’t think I would benefit too much from it. What I mean is after analyzing my daily intakes, calorie burns, and weight loss, I think I’ve found my sweet spot. I definitely stop losing if I get less than 1000 calories. But I also burn about 2-3K calories a day (not including gym workout). So unless I wanna lie around and watch TV, no can do on dropping the calorie count. I am training for the Warrior Dash in June (my first) so I need to keep building strength and work out as much as possible. I did start today planning all my food in myfitnesspal (this keeps me well behaved) and I went to the gym last night. Don’t want to encourage anyone to follow in these footsteps, but the scale did move. Could be because of the increased intake, or it could be because of the workout. Who knows? It’s not an experiment I’m willing to try again. I am going to take the numbers I’ve been figuring out and apply them for a week to see what happens. Looks like I lose best when I get 1000-1100 calories, <75g Carbs a day, >75g Protein, and less than 60g Fat. I think if I push those numbers to <60 carbs, >85 protein, and <50 fat, I’ll see even more results so that’s my goal for the week. I know for some people at 4 months post op these numbers seem high, but they seem to be my sweet spot where I lose and feel good. Thanks everybody for the encouragement and tough love I needed to hear. It can happen to anyone so be vigilant.

SERIOUSLY? REALLY? YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!

I think this thread has gotten off topic from the original time it got off topic. Raise your hand if you think those of us advocting the side of the OP are really out to beat people up and kick them when their down? Ok, put your hands down and get out of here, you missed the entire point. For the rest of you, OF COURSE nobody wants to see anybody get kicked when their down. I didn't hear a single person say that on here. But if you're not willing to stand up for yourself, or be proactive in your own journey and you're going to whine and stop the entire process because somebody said something mean to you, then you don't need us. you need to reflect on yourself and find something to fight for. I'll help those that try to help themselves. Yes that includes a burning kitchen. If they want to sit down and say "I give up because it's hot in here" I'm not hanging around to talk them out of a burning building. Dang, i'm full of visuals today

LOL I started to read that shaking my head thinking "this can't be right" Whew! Thought you lost it for a minute @@LipstickLady I hadn't considered any extensive (ish) self evaluation. Couldn't hurt. It was most likely due to the fact that even 7 months later I still crave smoking sometimes. I spent yesterday unpacking some boxes and my go to break time would be smoke time. So every time I needed a break yesterday, I needed something to do. Well it was just me & the dogs at home and not a single soul to see me! Bad habits certainly do slip back when you least expect it. I think next time I do that I'll just have a leash handy and take the dogs for a short stroll if I need a break. I always advocate getting up and walking away when the cravings hit but I didn't follow my own advice.

It's commonly referred to on here as "grazing". The sleeve stops us from eating a lot at once, but nothing stops us from eating a little all day long. Gotta stay strong!

    My Fitness Pal

You can change it under the tab for Goals, but no matter what, it will give you that message any time you are under 1000 calories.

SERIOUSLY? REALLY? YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!

I don't know if you realize it but it sounds like you are arguing against the OP while supporting it at the same time. I think the whole point was.........if you don't like it, get over it, not whine about becoming depressed because somebody said something mean. Maybe I misunderstood your point, but that's how I read it.
  9. WHOA I gotta ask, what kind of corn (or how much) are you eating that is only 5 carbs?

SERIOUSLY? REALLY? YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!

Wow this got good Personally, I believe in survival of the fittest. If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen so to speak. So Boo hoo someone got their feelings hurt. I'm not saying whatever was said to that person was right or wrong. It doesn't matter. Get your sh*t together and move on. Seems like most people here are trying to accuse people of bullying when I think they should look to the one complaining about the bullies. Only they can control how they feel and react to comments made by other people. They can choose to dwell on it and cry or brush it off realizing it has no true effect on their lives. @GreenEyes604 is completley justified in her rant. And it seems to be just that, a rant. Most of us feel the need to do it every now and then. I know I've called people out before on this site and that was mainly because they tried to call me wrong on something with a dumba$$ reason. Call me out sure, but be smart about it. If you're so sensitive that you're going to cry over a little spat on the internet, then get off the internet. Ever hear the saying "do what you've always done, get what you always got"? You want things to change, make a change. As for trying to get attention, it seems to me that there are more responders to this post trying to get attention than the original post. We all need to vent occasionally, but to seek out and respond to someones vent with self righteous opinions screams attention grabbing to me. Hmmmmm, wonder how many people I've pissed off with this? Boo hoo, get over if I did.
  11. So I know a lot of people Celebrate every little NSV and to an extent, I do too. BUT! Today I think I have my biggest NSV yet. As of this morning, I have lost enough weight that I would no longer qualify for VSG since I had no co-morbities. To me, that is huge! Would love to hear some of the NSVs you considered major. Keep up the good work everybody!

    So losing...

I think most of it has to do with how much you have to lose to start with. I know some of the ones on here that are "slow losers" have actually lost around the same amount of excess body weight as me even though they consider me a fast loser. I'm 4 months post op yesterday and I'm less than a pound from 80 lost. That's almost 50% of the excess fat I needed to lose. Someone that started out at a much lower weight will have much less to lose. They could be at their 50% mark in the same amount of time and only have lost 50 pounds. The more you have to lose, the faster you lose. All that being said, maybe it's time to talk to your NUT about changing things up.
  13. .6 pounds away from 80 lost!!!!!!

  14. WOW I can't imagine that heart break. I would appeal. You never know. In the meantime definitely keep up the great work! 35 pounds is AWESOME!!!! I agree that I can't believe they would schedule you without approval! I had to have all my testing done before the office would submit my request. Good luck to you, you're already a success!!
  15. Hmmmm interesting variances. I was told no NSAIDS but Tylenol was ok. I was also told no asprin (is that an NSAID?) Reason was they can eat away the stomach lining and cause ulcers. In our previously larger stomachs this wasn't an issue becuse we had more surface area to absorb the meds but now we don't. Maybe it's individual to the person if they're allowed? I am at high risk for an ulcer because I had GERD preop (no trouble since) and I'm allergic to omeprazole so I have to take protonix for treatment. I'm curious to those of you that said you take them regularly, do you have(had) any issues with GERD? Since you can see we all received different answers, it might be a good idea for you to discuss with you PCP and your surgeon. Good Luck!

    Website Difficulties?

@CowgirlJane I am using firefox on a work computer.....so there's not telling what the real culprit is. I'm betting it's the computer and not the browser

    Website Difficulties?

I usually use Firefox on desktop but it's been crashing the last two weeks. I switched to IE (UGH!) and it seems to be working ok here. I agree, downside of the app is not seeing avatars or tickers.

I'm done going through this procedure

Ok my post is probably going to piss some people off but oh well. Personally (just me) I believe if someone is only willing to go through with the surgery based on ease of insurance approval, they will be a failure at the surgery. The surgery involved hard work, before and after, as all of us post ops know. The insurance approval actually was the easy part for me and that includes me giving up smoking to qualify. 75 pounds later I wouldn't change a thing. HOWEVER, while I do think someone looking for ease will fail afterwards, perhaps the process itself will be an eye opener and OP will be successful without surgery. If you're only willing to put effort into one area, then that's probably the best one. Sheesh, if I had been 203, I don't know if I would have done the surgery either. I do wish best of luck to the OP even if she has shown herself to be a rude individual. I could understand it if even one individual had come on here and told her she was bound to fail or she was ridiculous for thinking she could do it on her own but all I've seen is genuine well wishes while pointing out how she might have phrased her thoughts to be less insulting to those that didn't follow the same path. Good luck to you.

    Decisions decisions...

I have (had) GERD and have had no trouble with it since my sleeve. I had some unusual triggers though like Kool-aid or sweet tea. I think it's individual to each person. Also, there is no dumping syndrom with the sleeve. It will not stop you one bit from sampling sweets other than volume. So if sweets are a slider for you to be unhealthy, maybe the bypass would be better. Talk through all your options with your surgeon and in your psych eval and your NUT. My surgeon said the band would be phased out in the near future so if you're even thinking about that route I would suggest doing some major research on the maintenence and long term requirements. I absolutely love my sleeve. I have a tough stomach so I haven't gotten sick, I've lost 75 pounds since 5 days preop, and I'm even preparing for an obstacle race in June. Good luck to you. Definitely go with what your gut tells you is right for you. The bypass is reversible, the sleeve is not. Keep that in mind.

  22. generic does not equal simplistic. The answer about stalls really is simple. Generic would be if we all came on here and told you Stalls happen to everybody, deal with it. No why, how, or what. If you really want to know about stalls there are tons of other forums already started by people asking the same questions and getting the same answers. Just because you got the same answer they did does not mean it was generic, it means it was right. Sorry if that sounds harsh but @@LipstickLady is right. Why post a question but tell us what you want us to say?

    Panic!

Would statistics make you feel better? I don't have the numbers, you can look them up, but gallbladder surgery and knee replacement surgery both have a higher mortality rate during surgery than weight loss surgery. And all of those risks are lower than the mortality rate associated with obesity.
  24. I think he probably meant something other than what he said. Of course stalls exist. Not everyone calls them stalls though. My mom refers to them as plateaus. It's not exclusive to WLS patients. EVERY diet out there or every weight loss journey includes "stalls". It's impossible not to. You may think it's generic or whatever but it really is just your body adjusting to the changes you're causing. That's for people sticking with the program. Of course the ones not sticking with it, grazing, etc. have other reasons for stalling. It's scientific fact your body will go into starvation mode, shut down your metabolism, and conserve as much energy as possible if you significantly reduce your diet. That's why it's up to us to exercise to keep our metabolism up, and get enough Protein to maintain/build lean muscle. It's why we can't cut out carbs or calories completely because we need fuel to function. We "trick" our bodies into burning fat while consuming a fraction of what we are used to. And since our stomachs are smaller, we have a physical barrier to help with the mental need to eat. Our bodies were designed efficiently. Eat, burn, eat, burn. Stop eating, stop burning. So I think either he was talking about something else, OR he's an a** that wanted to make you think there was no such thing so you would work harder. Psychological so to speak.

    HELP! Already discouraged

I lost 10 pounds in my 5 day preop diet and I guarantee it was mostly Water weight. You may not be carrying as much water to start with as others. You'll know it's water if your wrist, ankles, fingers, get noticeably smaller but nothing else does.
