Hi Gina, I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so down. I am feeling better than I was yesterday... still sore and swollon though. I truly believe that even though we desperately want to do this, the prospect is very scarey... have I done the right thing, will I be able to stick with it, what if I don't want to do it any more... these thoughts have been running through my mind in the last 48 hours. Our system is still in shock and we need to be gentle with ourselves. I'm sure if you give it a few more days, you will start to feel differently.

Just banded on the 24th and feeling frustrated
Sades replied to nhanson's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on 1 November ... 3 days and starting to feel better but it's still painful and swollen around one of the cuts, probably the port area. Anyway, I'm taking it easy until the end of the week. I can work from home so I will see how I go but if it is too much, I'll take sick leave and go back next week. It seems if you give yourself a week that things improve... here's hoping anyway !! :Banane20: -
Need HELP gaining Husband's support!
Sades replied to minerals13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't have a partner so for me it was my own decision whether to do this or not. It's not an easy decision to make but having someone else putting pressure on me would have made it even harder. I think it is a decision you need to make for yourself... you can take your husband's views but in the end it is your life... whatever the outcome. What if you don't do it and you end up having a stroke or heart attack, will that make him feel any better. Either way, he is afraid of losing you. You know that dieting hasn't worked for you in the past... I have been dieting on and off since I was a young teenager. I wasn't grossly overweight but always had a weight problem so I know my own body and what it needs. Of course my family were worried about the operation as I was but now that I am at the other end of it I am glad I went through it (of course even more so after the pain etc go away!!) Talk to your husband about his fears and your fears and you will probably come to a reasonable conclusion about all of this. -
help i feel so nausuos feel like i could throw up
Sades replied to jamietindall19's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope so. I woke up at 5am today and even though I haven't had much sleep in the last 3 days, I can't seem to get back to sleep. I think I'm just feeling tense about it all. No doubt will relax again after a few more days. -

Sades replied to jamietindall19's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So true Jamie.. even though I haven't had surgery previously, the fact that you can't even eat after this one is what probably makes some of us weak. I have been lucky in some ways because I don't feel weak... the medical staff commented on how good I look considering I had just come out of surgery. Mine is more the pain and the not keeping some meds down. The doctor told me to keep off the diabetes tablet for a week because my sugar should be fine since I am not eating... that one was the main culprit. I also threw after taking pain killers so he said to go on a liquid version. I had one lot of that last night but haven't needed it since. Hopefully that's a good sign. I think it's going to be hard for a while but I guess we can only go one day at a time. -
I was banded a couple of days ago and I came home from the hospital this morning. I have noticed that where one of cuts is that it is now swollen & bruised. That's where it is the most sore. Any ideas of what could be happening??
-
LOL Jamie, you hit the nail on the head... I really only had that said to me once but it jarred. I would give this pain and suffering back if I could but unfortunately it is a journey and I haven't arrived at the best part of it yet. Thanks and good luck to you as well.

That seems to be a long time on fluids? Is that what your doctor wants you to do? It's just that most people on here are on the fluids for 2 weeks and then mushies after that. No doubt you are probably feeling weak and as mentioned, going to the dentist would not have helped matters. I'm only new to this so unfortunately I can't advise you on much. Hope you feel better soon. -
New to Group 5 days post op
Sades replied to justmekate's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Katie I'm 3 days post op and I'm feeling really sore when I get in and out of bed. Not too bad if just standing or walking. I didn't experience too much gas I don't believe... may have had some in my back. I think I drank too much at once last night so now feel like I have indigestion, so a bit worried about drinking more today. Threw up some meds at the hospital a couple of times so that is putting me off having them again today. I have been told to have fluids for 2 weeks and mushies for 2 weeks... will probably introduce a little normal food in the last week of the mushies week. The way I'm feeling now, can't imagine eating anything but hopefully all that will change soon. Good luck on your journey! -
Thanks Dave. Sounds awful !!! Anyone who says we've taken the easy way out need their heads examined !! I think I hurt mine because I had problems getting in and out of bed at the hospital (only 155cm tall)... was there 2 nights. Wish I had asked the nurses for help more often but because I was getting in and out of bed so often (was feeling really restless) I didn't want to bother them... silly me. Anyway, whatever the reason, I need to look after myself so I heal quicker. Had a few visitors yesterday but hopefully today will be quieter.

Thanks again for your support. I just want this stage to be over... lucky I can work from home this week. If I feel better may go into the office on Thursday... that would be a week after surgery. I think today is going to be a bed day. :sick:notagree

Thanks Patty, I'm still very sore today. I must say I haven't much rest which is probably not helping. I see we're banding twins.

It seems that this is one of the hard parts of this process... not only trying to keep to the diet but also trying hard to deal with the pain and the strangeness of this new body. I know everyone seems to say that it gets easier but that thought is so alien to me at the moment. I'm not going to be too hard on myself but I wish I could sleep... I think the last lot of liquid I had did not agree with me so I'm finding it hard to settle.
-
Thanks Nikki. I'm not feeling too bad emotionally just trying to deal with the physical changes and trying to sleep. Thought I would sleep more easily in my own bed but nothing so far, still can't relax.
-
Thanks Wendy, I needed to hear that again since I'm still having problems settling down tonight. Not hungry just sore.. probably over tired as well.
-
Sounds like we're all at different stages of the same questions... why me and will I get through this?? This is my third night since surgery and so glad to be home... couldn't relax at the hospital at all. Glad to hear that it will all settle down soon.

I must say I'm feeling too unwell to eat at the moment... having my sustigan drink. No point in feeling guilty about what you ate Gina... it's guilt that helped most of us get to our weight in the first place. What you did was not totally out of control... obviously something you might need to rethink next time. Of course you would be feeling emotional, you'd just been through a life changing operation and there's no going back. I know you can get unbanded but for now this is all we have, so we need to make the most of it. I've cried a couple of times, mostly because I let myself get to the point where I felt I had no alternative but to do this op... now that I have, I need to look after myself so I reach my goal and know it was worth all of this.
-
I've just had 1/2 mug of clear vegetable soup... strained any extra veggies out of it. I feel better already. I drank it very slowing just in case. Used my medicine measuring cup... that's 40 mls... seems to help. Next I'll have some Sustigan Formula... chocolate flavour. Not sure if you get that in the USA. This is going to be a battle but I think as long as we listen to what the doctors and dieticians are saying we should be okay. I wouldn't worry too much about the yoghurt Gina... I'm sure that little bit of sugar will not ruin your diet.
-
I spoke to my doctor and he said that it's not unusual to have swelling and bruising but did say to call the hospital if it gets worse.
-
Now that is "crazy" !!! I can barely walk and have a quite a bit of pain at one of the cuts. I think I may have pulled a muscle getting in and out of bed at the hospital... hate those hospital beds.

starting to collect information about LB
Sades replied to Gwenn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know the type Gwenn ! I can't answer the food question yet since it's only been 2 days for me and I'm still feeling a little off. The 2 people I know who did it and have lost all their weight both say food is no longer that important to them. The young girl I know said that she still eats chocolate & ice cream but only very small amounts. She said that something clicks in the brain and you don't want it. One thing I have noticed today being back at home is I could easily forget that I can't and go and pick something up... I'm sure that will pass with the surreal feeling I have at the moment. -
I've been drinking apple juice and broth but don't think I'm drinking enough. My sister is going to buy me some Hospital Sustigan Formula, some clear soups and some jelly. Hopefully I will survive fine on those. My plan is to go back to work on Monday ... I can work from home for a few days... I work as a PA for a large IT company. That way if I need a break I can take one without too much hassle. I still feel a little surreal about all this.

I was banded on 1 Nov in Sydney and I was in hospital for 2 nights, one in ICU. I woke up feeling the worst pain (never had surgery before) but it improved a few hours after that. Still some pain ther but hoping that it will ease up in the next few days. Good luck to all of us !! :whoo::whoo:

Sades replied to Gwenn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks Gwenn, I hope you find what you're looking for on here... it certainly helped me. Why don't you go with the doctor that your brother-in-law went to? -
Thanks Longhorn and congrats to you as well, my band twin. Look forward to seeing our progress. :clap2: How are you feeling?
