    surgery scheduled

Congrats Kim, I had mine a few days after yours. I have read some of the posts about what people are eating so soon after surgery. As much as I love the food my family are eating around me, I can't imagine even having one mouthful at this stage of the game... each to their own I guess but I wouldn't risk it.

    Humiliation

Got that one all my life.
  5. Thanks Lizzie, not sure if I can get that in Australia but will buy some Gaterade to add to the diet.
  6. I'm not sure if I'm having too much to drink. How many cups of fluids is okay. I've had one cup of sustigan formula, 2 cups of clear soup and some apple juice... very little water, find it doesn't go down as well as the other stuff. Is that too much or not enough? I don't feel too bad but just wanted to be sure that I'm not stretching the pouch.

    Recovery Stories :)

My pain is getting better but still sore around the port area. I have been working from home since Monday... feeling tired, probably too soon. I also drove myself to the shops for the first time... was tiring. I will try and take it easier. I don't believe I'm drinking enough water. I checked with the nurse at the surgery today and she said I can have jelly, light custard, ice blocks (popsicles) and slightly thicker soups (blended). I was so excited, I went and had 2 mouthfuls of jelly without chewing and it made me sick... silly me. I feel okay now though but it makes you stop and think!! This is definitely a journey and I'm glad I'm on it.

    Recovery Stories :)

They weren't mentioned on my list. I probably should try drinking other flavours of drinks and soup... just been sticking with the same ones for last few days. I just wanted to get some more ideas because this will be for another week. Thanks.
  10. I'm only at Day 5 but I weighed myself the day I came back from hospital (Sat) and I had put on 1/2 kilo (1.1lbs)... I didn't freak out just put it down to the swelling etc. Anyway decided to leave the weighing for another week but since my swelling is going right down, I decided to weigh myself today and have lost 3 kilos (6.6lbs). I'm not one to weigh myself every day, even when I was on diets. I did a course years back called Slim for Life that said throw your scales away and listen to your body... it stuck in my head all these years... shame the other tips didn't !!

    Recovery Stories :)

Day 5 for me and my swelling has come down, only a little around the port area. I'm feeling better each day. I'm sick of fluids already but couldn't imagine eating real food yet. I have 2 cups of chocolate protein drink, 2 cups of clear soup, glass of apple juice and water throughout the day... maybe I need to have something more interesting now... any suggestions?
  12. My pain has not been as bad as some Tracy... I stopped the painkillers 2 days after. Of course any surgery is going to be sore... on a scale of 1-10 I'd say I'm around a 4 right now. It only hurts when I move around in bed or when I have to stand up. I didn't get the gas pain that everyone's talking about except maybe my back when I first came out of the op. Of course when I first woke up I was in extreme agony but was ok after they gave me pain killers. Anyway, good luck with your journey... it will come sooner than you think.
  13. Welcome Tracy. I was banded on Thurs, 1 Nov and am slowing but surely recovering at the moment. Still at the fluids stage which has been okay, haven't been feeling hungry... just the occasional twinge when I see other people eating (definitely head hunger). I was very anxious prior to the op and found myself over indulging in everything I could find for about 2 months. Now that I'm here, I'm just taking it a day at a time. I decided to go back to work today but because I can work from home. I can have breaks throughout the day and then go back to the office next week. I was just like you, yo-yoing up and down with the weight. Every new diet, eg, LitenEasy, was going to be the one for me but after losing around 15 kilos or so I would find myself going back in the other direction, even if I kept it off for more than a year. After looking into this, I realised it is for me because after losing the weight I'm more likely to keep it off. 4 days gone and the rest of my life to go !!

    No one in Nov?

I didn't think we could eat jello or pudding as part of the fluid stage. I had a couple of very small mouthfuls of jelly yesterday but let them melt in my mouth before swallowing. Haven't tried to since because I reread my notes and jelly wasn't allowed at this stage.

Ah yes hospitals... was well looked after but have felt 100% more relaxed since being home. Had a pretty good sleep last night, first one since the surgery.

    Just banded October 31!

Thanks Donna... still can't beleve that I did it, except that the pain reminds me !!
  17. Thanks for all your responses everyone. I will continue drinking but it looks like I need to drink more water. Must say have had no headaches and other than the stomach pain have been feeling pretty good... hard to believe after such a short time.

    Hello from Oz

Thanks Jane. :Banane20: I'm feeling much better than I was and my emotions are doing fine as well... no doubt they will play up at different stages of this. I think I really only cried at the hospital because I was feeling sorry for myself. Probably got a small pain threshold and couldn't handle it. The other thing for me was the fear that I won't ever be able to eat anything I like again (even though I know that's not true)... just fear going a little crazy! This is a great forum for us to put all these thoughts out there and get some reassurance. Thanks again.
  19. Gee it sounds like I might be drinking too much. Oh well no more for me tonight then. Thanks Cindy.

I'm a 1 November bander... still working through it right now but feeling better than I thought I would after only 3 days. Good luck to everyone.

    Recovery Stories :)

I was banded on 1 November as well... my surgery was at 2pm and I was put in ICU at about 4pm, feeling so much pain that my first thought was what have I done to myself !! The sisters in ICU kept trying to reassure me that this would pass but as I'd never had surgery before, I had no idea. My sister came to see me at that time so she sat by my bed until about 6.30pm. By then I was starting to feel a little better because they had given me pain killers. By about 9pm the drugs were doing their job. My bad was in pain so I couldn't stay in bed, so I was moved to a nice comfy chair and I slept in it all night (if you can call it sleep when the nurses are at you every hour :Banane20:). The next morning I was feeling reasonably good, still having back pain. My surgeon came to see me and he said that everything went really well, including the X-Ray and of course that made me feel good. Things turned in the afternoon though and I was feeling bad again... got more pain killers and was moved to a room on one of the wards (again my sister was with me... good to have family around). She left and came back later with another sister and my niece so we sat around chatting, even though I was still feeling off. After they left, I couldn't settle at all... in and out of bed all night. My surgeon couldn't get back to the hospital in time so he called me and said I could go home... boy was I happy. 2 nights in hospital was more than enough. Got home Saturday morning and the first thing I did was lay on my bed... lovely! :notagree Didn't get to snooze much before I had a visitor and then another visitor and then more visitors... like the support but was exhausted by the end of the day... but still no sleep. I think I slept about 4 hours or so. I have had pain and swelling on the stomach but very little of anything else. Haven't needed pain killers or nausea meds since Saturday so I'm happy. Can't wait for the pain to subside and get back to a normal feeling. I know this is like an epic but hey once I get started, you can't shut me up !!! :biggrin1: :biggrin1:
  22. From what I've read here, it is gas and some people take Gas-X (something along those lines). I was banded the same day as you but haven't experienced much gas... not sure if I did in my back or whether it was just from the hospital bed because it is fine now. I hope these pains ease up soon.

    Hello from Oz

I must say I haven't left the house since returning from the hospital.. a change of scenery could well be a good thing. I just feel I haven't caught up on my sleep which I tried to do this afternoon... no real luck. From what I've read here people get back to the normal world in about a week or more of their surgery. I've had a lot of family around me in the last couple of days, so lots of distractions. Even though I've had those questions in my mind, I know I've done the right thing for me. I think that trying to work out if I'm drinking enough or too much is what's worrying me. I don't feel unwell, so I assume I'm doing the right thing.
  24. I also do office work and I'm planning to work from home tomorrow for a week (can work virtually) and then plan to go back to the office next week. If it's too much then I'll take more time off.

    Just banded October 31!

Thanks for the great description... now I know why my insides feel like a bomb was blasted there !! :Banane20: Even though I'm still sore & swollen I haven't needed painkillers in the last 24 hours... now that must be a good sign ! :whoo::whoo:
