  1. Cindy, it's hard to help because you should listen to your doctor but at the same time, you could have had your surgery with any one of our doctors and doing it differently. I think it is a good idea to speak to your doctor's office and see what they say. I only started on thicker soup because I spoke to the nurse about what I was eating and she said that it was okay to have that now and as I mentioned earlier, jelly & light custard. I agree that you should be doing this the healthy way. It sounds like he wants quick success stories... remember it is a business for them and the more you lose, the better he can sell it. A little cynicism doesn't hurt I guess.

    Finally Banded

Congratulations Kristin ! :whoo::whoo: I was in hospital 2 nights... standard with my drs. Sorry about your spleen... any side effects with that?
  3. Truly... I couldn't imagine eating anything those first few days... only just managing thick soup and it's day 10 for me. I guess 1/2 cup of mushies would be ok now.
  4. Hi Cindy, I was banded on the 1st as well and I was told I could now have thicker Soups but must be blended so my sister cooked me up some vege soup and blended it for me. I found I could only have 1/2 cup each time. If it gets too thick, I Water it down slightly. I am also now allowed jelly and light custard... had no trouble eating them and don't feel hungry. I must say, I'm amazed at what some people are eating in the early stages but if their doctors say they can. who am I to say they shouldn't.
  5. I'm from Sydney Australia and our health system is different to yours. My private health fund paid for the hospital costs except $500 which is the excess. The anaesthestist has charged me $1,300 but should get some of that back through medicare and my health insurance. The surgeons charged me $5,200 but that will cover the next 12 months of visits, including fills. Anything else they charge will be bulk billed (free for me). I should get around $700 back of that from medicare and my health fund. I guess, the overall cost for me is around $5-6,000. I have paid $2,000 so far and was told I could pay the last $3,200 on a monthly basis over a 6 month period. Happy with that. Already I think it's worth it. :whoo::whoo:

    Recovery Stories :)

Good luck Steph... only a few days to go! :clap2: :clap2:
  7. I'm at Day 9 today (can't believe it's gone so quickly) and even though I'm not feeling full on hungry, I am getting twinges of it... not sure if it is head hunger only though. I have an appointment with the dietician on Tuesday so will work it out with her. I say hang in there... we're only human and this is a totally new experience for us, a learning process.

    Recovery Stories :)

Hi Edeva, I'm really good... can't believe how quickly I recovered. I was working 4 days later... probably could have had the week off though, cause am still tired. I've lost 5 kilos (11 lbs) since surgery. Happy with that but then again I didn't do a pre-op diet so it came off much easier. Sorry about your monthly's... I'm past that stage in my life but of course that brings with it other issues!!
  9. This is way too soon to be eating solids, chewed or not. I am at Day 8 and can't imagine eating mushy food let alone normal food. We have been told this is the healing stage of the process. It sounds like indigestion to me but hey I'm not a Dr.
  10. I was banded 8 days ago and spent my first night in ICU and 2nd night in the ward. I have untreated sleep apnea. I was told all the lap band patients are put into ICU on their first night as a precaution... there were 3 of us that day. By the way I'm from Sydney Australia.

    Need help for gas pain

Hi Cindy, sorry to hear that. I was banded the same day and other than the first 2 or 3 days, all has been well... no gas pains. If you do a search for "gas" you'll fin heaps of posts on the subject. I haven't read of any as bad as you though. Keep us posted.

    Recovery Stories :)

Hi Renee, I feel for you. When I first woke up from surgery, I felt like someone had grabbed hold of my stomach and were squeezing it tight and every cut had someone's finger jammed into! Once the nurses gave me painkillers it stopped... can't remember how long after, was still slightly out of it. The only thing I promise you is it will pass... 2 days later and I was off my painkillers. Of course my stomach was bloated and still sore for the next few days but not needing painkillers. I was lucky, didn't get gas pains so maybe that's why it's been easier for me than some. Anyway, hang in there, it does get better. I'm at Day 8 and can get in and out of bed with no pain in the stomach. Good luck!

    I dare you!

Mine is 2 weeks of fluids, 2 weeks of mushies and in the last phase of mushies was told that normal food would be introduced. Just started my second week of fluids. Was told can have thicker fluids in this phase.
  14. Good luck with your surgery. I was also banded a week ago... it will pass quicker than you think. Keep us posted! :clap2: :clap2:

    Back and banded!

Hi Starryeyed, I was banded the same day as you. I have been on protein shakes, clear soup and juice mostly but yesterday and today had some jelly and light custard (a nice change) and when i spoke to the nurse today she said I can have thicker soups now, as long as they are blended. Are you at that stage yet? I must say I haven't been feeling hungry yet. Is it real hunger or head hunger do you think?
  16. I was banded on the Thursday and back working on the Monday (from home though)... first day back at the office today... Day 7. I have had a pretty good run with this so far... everyone's different.

    Recovery Stories :)

That's smart... that's what they did at the hospital in the 2 nights I was there... probably wouldn't have survived otherwise. Haven't needed the pain meds since Day 3... I've been pretty lucky I think. Good luck! :whoo::whoo:

    No one in Nov?

Congratuations on your surgery and glad to hear you are feeling great. I'm at Day 7 today and was lucky enough to come through without gas pains etc. Good luck! :whoo::whoo:

    Just banded October 31!

Hi there. I must say I'm feeling extra bloated today but haven't changed much in my diet. I had a very small bowl of jelly with light custard... wonder if that did it? I put on a little of weight when I came home from the hospial but soon took that off. Personally I think it's the swelling & bloating doing it. Sorry to be gross, but had my first BM in 6 days but that didn't ease the bloating. I've decided to go to the office tomorrow, have been working from home this week. A long drive, a long day... hopefully it won't take too much out of me.

    what would others do

Hi forreste, i've only been banded for 6 days so I don't think I can be much help to you but i can say i feel for you. It seems that sometimes everything goes wrong and you feel that you can't get out of the sludge. I guess you need to speak to your doctor (or a new one) about what's happening and don't let them make you feel bad... you have every right to find out what's going on and how they can help you. It's a lot of money to spend and not get the right support afterwards. Good luck and keep us posted.

    Just banded October 31!

This is definitely the place to come. There's always someone who can answer any questions you have and give you support if you need it. I'm at Day 6 and on my fluids. Added jelly and light custard today, that was yummy. Still mostly having protein drink, clear soups and water. Have an appointment with my dieticien next Tuesday so hopefully I can get onto mushies after that. No rush though, my stomach still feels bloated so I guess still going through the healing process. Anyway, good luck.

    Unsuccessful at MY goal?

I haven't read the other thread but must say you look great. I have set myself a goal that others may think is not slim enough but I've never wanted to be a size 8 or 10, especially more so now that I'm 52yo... got to keep those wrinkles away!! :biggrin1: I want to lose weight for my health and getting to a size 12 will certainly do that. I think we all have the opportunity to revisit our goals the closer we get to them but I'm happy with mine in the meantime.
