    You've lost enough weight...

Funny that this guy at work is telling you are OCD re your weight loss Julie. He was going out with you prior to losing your weight, so perhaps what he's trying to say is I found you more attractive overweight. Remember there are men out there that like us chubbier girls. It would be interesting to ask him what he thinks of the new you. I've also had problems in the past with people saying that I should not lose much more weight or I was looking too thin... mind you, I would have been around 165 lbs at the time and I'm only 5' 2". Go figure! :faint:

    Aussie before and/or After pics

These were taken a day before surgery. I have lost 12 kilos since but haven't taken any new photos yet.
  3. Mine was a reasonably quick process as well. I went to the info session and had my first appoint with the nurse a week later. It took me 2 weeks to get to see the surgeon which was 10 Oct... got my date from the recept a week later, which was 1 Nov... I couldn't believe that it was so soon because I was told it could be 4-6 weeks away. I was excited and anxious at the same time. I think it's better than a long wait and now 5 weeks later I am 26 lbs down.

    Do You Believe in Signs?

Sure do. I've always believed if we listen to our inner self then we get outer messages on what we need to do. Only problem is, I get so caught up with what's going on around me that I sometimes miss the messages. Looks to me like you definitely got yours. Good luck with your decision.

    Port flipped

Sorry to hear about your dilemma Beckie. I don't have any idea why this could have happened. I hope it all gets sorted for you, without too much cost. As you say, at least you are still losing.

    In the 80s

Thanks Donna... would be great to look like that!! You go girl... shake that booty!! I love dancing and I must say my weight's never stopped me but what a difference 26 lbs makes... I feel like I glide now. I much prefer dancing to aerobics, so maybe I might join a dance class next year. I can hear them calling my name now... Unfortunately not. If you are only in Sydney for 5 months, I would make sure I had the name of a dr to go to when you move for follow up sessions and fills. It's a hard decision to make. My brother is in the same boat as you and his dr said since his health is pretty good, he's better off to wait. In the meantime he is exercising and trying to cut down... will help him when it's time for the op. Good luck with your decision.
  12. I was so stressed prior to doing this surgery that I couldn't stop eating and actually put on weight. I was afraid of dying, I was afraid that I made a mistake, I was afraid of everything but here I am just over 5 weeks later and 25.5 lbs lighter wondering why I didn't do it sooner. We all have a different experience with this but most people get through it without any problems. I'm off my diabetes meds and my BP is 125/75... lowest it's been in ages, my doc is going to cut my BP meds in half. On top of that my old clothes fit again and I'm looking forward to losing the next 25 lbs so I can buy new clothes to go with the sexy new body. Your friend sounds like she understands how hard it is to lose weight since she can't get her 10 lbs off. You have to decide whether to tell her or not but the bottom line is that you are doing this for yourself & your son. You can always tell everyone when you're at the other side of it, when you over the op and back into the swing of things. Good luck with your surgery. :whoo::whoo:

Hi Lindy, where in Australia are you from? The first step is to go to an info session on the lapband. After that you consult with the surgeon. The surgeon will tell you if you need to do a pre-op diet to shrink the liver. From there they give you a surgery date. You get very little back from medicare for the surgeon, anesthesist & the x-ray. If you do it after your private fund kicks in then they pay your hospital fees and some of the surgeon's fees as well. I am with MBF and I still ended up paying around $6,000 out of my own pocket. Also, you will need a referral from your GP for the surgeon.

Were you sure it wouldn't work?

I had the urine injections in 1982 because I was going to be bridesmaid for my sister that year. I'm sure they started before that but that was my experience with them. Crazy things we do in the hope of losing that excess weight.

I've only had my band for over 5 weeks but my sleep pattern hasn't been the best which makes me exhausted. Do you have sleep apnea as well as the MS? I have sleep apnea but don't have a cpap machine. I was meant to do a follow up but I had lost my sister from cancer and wasn't in the frame of miind to spend the night in hospital, needless to say never went back. I also suffer from osteo malacia & lack of Vitamin D and sometimes am in pain which also takes a lot out of me. How far gone are with your MS? I heard that they have found a correlation between MS & lack of Vitamin D. Some days are such a struggle. Is your blood pressure okay? If you haven't already, I would suggest a blood test to see if you have low Iron or something else which is contributing to it.

Were you sure it wouldn't work?

I'm not laughing, I did those stupid urine injections back in the early 80s. I was put on a 600 cal diet... no wonder I lost weight. Boy do I hate some of the things I did to myself.
  17. I was only recently put on diabetic tablets... I had to take 2 which looked like horse tablets. I was taken off them at the hospital on the day of surgery. After the op I tried taking them but threw them up (that was during my 2 days in hospital). I never went back on them since my levels were pretty good. I spoke to my doctor and she is fine for me not to take them any more. I have lost 25 lbs and the more I lose the better I will be. I will continue to test myself in case something goes wrong.

    "Religion of Peace" Update

The Christians have a lot to answer for in their time as well. As I said before, the things people do in the name of religion. I believe there are good and bad in any group of people and I say let people be but unfortunately that will never happen while there are zealots in this world.

    "Religion of Peace" Update

I have known many Moslems over the last few years, including in my current job and I do not have a problem with them but I do have a problem with some of their clerics who make comments about how our women dress and how they ask to be raped by their men. Let's blame the victim. In Australia we had a really big rape case against a group of Muslem boys which got out of control with it's media coverage. As a woman who grew up in the 60's & 70's, I feel that we are being taken back thousands of years by these views and I don't like it.

Were you sure it wouldn't work?

I haven't kept this a secret but I feel the same about the fact that people think it was only the band that did all the work. Yes it won't let me eat as much as I used to but it's still me who chooses what to put in my mouth each and every time. I have been close to 20 kilos lighter than I am now but I've never been slim, even as a child, so I can't see myself being a normal sized woman... hopefully I will prove myself wrong! <!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

    First Fill

Hey Linda, you're doing really well despite your hunger. I have my first fill next week but still feel reasonably tight. As I've said before, as long as I eat on time, then I don't have too many problems. I also noticed that if I eat a hard protein in my meal, it does make me full. I'm not big on meat so it's not often I have been doing this. I mostly have beans, eggs & cheese. I just hope that a fill won't start giving me yukkie PB etc problems.

Were you sure it wouldn't work?

That's how I feel IndioGirl. I think we are working on it... it's not as simple as most people think it is... I don't mean other banders but more the people around us. I may not be overly hungry and I may be satisfied on very little food but I still have to think about what I put into my mouth each and every time.

    "Religion of Peace" Update

I am Australian and I also come from an immigrant family. My parents came here in 1950 and they integrated really well. I consider myself an Aussie but still embrace my heritage. Australia was a great country to grow up in but things are changing bit by bit. It really concerns me what people do in the name of religion.
