A new medical issue for me.

Good on you Kendra, hope the good stuff keeps coming! :tongue_smilie:

Can I lose without all the water?

Thought this might help. Fluids - the good and the bad Fluids come in many forms - Water, ice blocks, fruit, juice, tea, and cordial. Many foods are mainly Fluid - custard, jelly, ice cream, and Soup. These can contribute vital fluid. Caffeine drinks such as coffee, cola, Milo and alcohol are fluids, but have a diuretic effect so fluid is lost from the body with these drinks. If a person has one of these drinks it should be accompanied with a glass of water. Certainly coffee and alcohol should not be the main source of fluid intake as they further increase the person's risk of dehydration.

    Some people, I swear...

I agree. I'd hate to have such a serious problem and have no-one believe me. On the other hand, he's certainly gotten mileage out of these threads and opened up a can of worms in the process.
  4. Me too on all counts. I know I could have lost at least another 10 lbs by now if not for all the food I have been able to eat. It's not easy doing it without restriction but my restriction is getting heaps better now, so looking forward to more loss. I walk every day and go to aqua aerobics once a week which has helped. This is a process and everyone is different in how they approach it. For me, I don't want to go without some of the foods I enjoy so I'm happy to lose all my excess weight by the time my band anniversary comes around in Nov. 86 lbs lost in 12 months is nothing to be sneezed at. 32 lbs gone, only 54 lbs to go !!

    Love My Band

Congratulations Michelle, you've done so well. It's great to hear that you've had no problems with the band and I hope you achieve the goal you've set yourself. 28 lbs by June... I have a June goal as well (my niece's 21st birthday party) and I want to lose 20 lbs by then, hope it's doable.

    Discouraged and need help

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one, especially so young, is not an easy thing. I lost my mum, dad & sister (50yo) in the last 12 years and each time I have turned to food for comfort and to help me escape the pain. I agree with everyone that you need to get a fill to help get you started again but remember this is a time that you need to nurture yourself, not beat yourself up. You will need some kind of outlet and if you can't use food for that then try to find something that helps. I went to a grief counsellor for a while after my sister died and that helped. Walking is an amazing thing as well... it gives you time to think, cry and clear the head. Take care of yourself and come back here for the support you need. xx

    Time Off on "Fill days"?

My doctor is a 10min walk from my office so I usually go at lunch time and back to work within the hour. Never been told to have liquids only afterwards. My last fill brought me up to 8cc in a 10cc band and the nurse suggested having soup for lunch. I think that's because I'm getting tighter and she wanted to make sure I didn't have any problems. All good.
  10. Nicole, what's good about this site is we get to read about amazing success stories as well as the seriously unsuccessful ones... no hiding the truth here. Agree Shortgal, guess it's time to move on. David, I wish you well in the coming months.
  11. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but I have to agree that this has to stop. You've had a bad experience, it's sad, but to be honest you are in the minority. My doctor said that less than 5% of people have complications of some kind or another and I was happy to take that risk. You've come here ranting and raving and put some people in a spin but 99% of people will do their own research and make their own decision. You might win some people over but they are probably only half hearted about the band to start off. I read enough on the complications section to scare me but it didn't stop me going ahead with the op. So I say move on, you've lost the battle here. Congratulations Becky on such an amazing result, you're an inspiration to those of us who have a long way to go.

Amount to unfill for a cruise??

Congratulations on your weight loss. From someone who has been struggling to get to the right restriction, I would say don't do it but on the other hand if you're throwing up too often then I say get a little out so you don't have a miserable time while you are away. Enjoy your cruise ! :tt1:
  13. You poor thing. It's really hard trying to do it without restriction. Have you asked them to let you know if they have a cancellation? I had my appointment on Wednesday but was going to call them 2 weeks ago to try and get in early because of the same problem. I didn't but luckily enough I didn't put any weight on. My restriction feels ok now but I know I need a little more. The only thing I can suggest is to fill yourself up on good food that way you cause less damage. In the meantime call Anna and beg !! :tt2: Let me know how you go.
  14. Congratulations on your surgery. I was banded by Dr Liebman & Dr Smith as well. Great guys! I went for my 8th fill yesterday and I think I'm getting close to good restriction. I was told they will only go .5cc for each fill so that they don't over fill me where I end up with problems. Good luck with your journey. Hey Danna how are things?
  15. Well I am pleased to announce I have gone a whole week (incl the weekend) and have not put on any weight!! I had another fill yesterday which has brought me up to 8cc. I am noticing a difference already. Even though I can still eat, I am eating smaller amounts. I'm hoping this means a good loss by the end of this challenge. The nurse at my doctor's surgery suggested I don't weigh myself until my next visit because it seems that as soon as I start losing again I sabotage myself. This way I won't see it going down and do my usual thing thing of filling my gob. She has 9cc and can still eat a reasonable amount, so for those who are worried that they don't have restriction yet it is coming. She had more in but couldn't eat much so asked for some out. Anyway, I think I'm getting close... yay!!

    My Good Friend, Fear

Well said Kat. I know I was scared when I read the complications section before I was banded but in the end the statistics showed that the success stories far outweighed the complications so I said to myself that I would have to be very unlucky to be a bad statistic so I took a deep breath and just went for it ... lucky I was right !! :rolleyes2:
  17. Sorry to hear of your problems David, I hope you get through the surgery without any complications. I believe the success stories far outweigh the complications and as far as I'm concerned if people follow the rules, especially in the healing stages then they are unlikely to have problems. This is not a miracle cure for weight loss, neither is it an easy way out but it is a tool which I am very happy to say is helping me lose and keep my weight off. I'm not even one of the success stories yet but I am very confident that by the time I hit my 1 year band anniversary I will be. 99% of the people go into this with their eyes open and they know if they don't do something as drastic as surgery that they will die or lead a life of misery. For me I wasn't willing to have that so here I am with the band heading for my goal weight. Good luck to any newbies, these stories are here to make you think harder about whether you want this or not. I know they scared me before my surgery but I still went ahead and am happy to say all is good.

    Food delivery services

I also live in Australia and did Lite n Easy as well. The meals were great, especially the dinners (a big variety). I lost 16 kilos about 3 years ago but put most of it back on about 1.5 years later. Of course I've lost it again with the band. Anyway, with Lite n Easy you can order just their dinners which I still do occasionally. There's no harm in trying a variety of meals from the supermarket and once you find a couple you like then buy some to keep in the freezer.
  20. Congratulations on your loss. If I were you I would still get the fill especially since you are having to work hard at getting the weight off. Remember that if you don't get it this time, you might have to wait another few weeks and things may get worse. Good luck!

    No one in Nov?

I think many of us are in the same boat Dianne. I guess the ones that are losing the most are the ones sticking with the diet, obviously much better than me. I go for another fill tomorrow but I'm scared that I might go overboard because even though I can eat more than I should, I still have those moments of getting stuck or feeling sore around the middle. I just don't want to have the ability to eat a plate of food when all I should be having is half. I know I have to take responsibility for it as well but really I want to feel that if I eat another bite I will throw up... haven't got that kind of restriction yet. I was planning on going with 1cc but the more I think about it, the more I realise another .5cc should be good. I certainly don't want to be rushed off to the hospital in the middle of the night so slow and steady it is for us oldies. :biggrin2:

Joining November Nymphs & April Goals

Welcome Molly. I don't quite understand what you mean by joining the Nov Nymphs. If you were banded in Nov you are automatically a Nov Nymph. There are weight loss challenges which you can join. The latest one is November Nymphs Cinco de Mayo Weight Loss Challenge. Good luck with your personal challenges. I know what you mean about work... there are some companies that want everything from you (incl your soul) but give nothing back. The more weight you lose, the more confident you'll be to say no, enough is enough. :smile2:
  23. I had my surgery in the afternoon and was told to have a little breakfast and stop eating and drinking after that. I didn't have to take anything to clean me out.

A new medical issue for me.

Glad to hear that things are going well Kendra. I watched my sister going through chemo and it wasn't pleasant so it's good that you are feeling well. Even though I'm not in touch often, I do think about you and I'm sending you positive vibes... can you feel them !! :biggrin2:
