Need To Hear From The Veterans

I am one year out and had an incarcerated incisional hernia one week post op. Then had the 2nd incarcerated hernia in the same place the 2nd week post op. The surgeon said the area was looking like it was losing blood supply. He took out a couple inches of my colon and left the incision open and I left hospital with a wound vac. So three surgeries in two weeks and had esophageal spasms until I was 6 months out. I had buyers remorse for sure. But now that I'm at a good place and have lost the weight, I no longer regret having the Rny. If I had it to do over, I believe I would.

What size do you think I might be wearing?

I'm 4' 11.5" and weigh 127. I wear 6 in jeans and 4 or 6 petite in dress pants, dresses, etc.

6 wks post op and something isn't right

I finally have a good follow up report. I'm now 7 months out and that terrible feeling in my throat is gone!! My surgeon said I was having esophageal spasms. Thank God I can eat and feel normal again. It took awhile to get here. Just want to give a little hope to those experiencing something similar.

    App for apple freezing

Yes. Happens to me each time I use the app!
  5. Pik, that's what I am dealing with now. At 11 weeks out, I cannot tolerate meats and mainly have soft foods. Anytime I eat or take meds, it feels like something is stuck and I get a nauseous feeling. I've had an upper GI and an abdominal ct scan which were negative. I asked my surgeon specifically about the possibility I may have a stricture and he said he didn't think so because it didn't show on the upper GI. I've read and you are proof that the upper GI doesn't always show a stricture. It's so frustrating! Right now, I'm trying a blood pressure medication that is supposed to relax the muscles of the esophagus because my Dr. is thinking I may have spasms. I still believe it is a stricture! I don't understand why surgeons with so much experience will delay performing a procedure that could bring relief, especially since I had complications post op already---two hernias resulting in 3 surgeries within 2 weeks.

    Over kill southern style

Is it normal to have cravings at 10 weeks post op? I do have many cravings. Like today, it was for cornbread, milk, and onions. Worst mistake ever. Should have known better!

Why does it feel like I've swallowed a scrub brush?

Hi k! Are you still doing better eating and drinking since the endo and dilation? My surgeon has ordered a CT scan of abdomen due to my history of hernias. The next step will be an endo if the CT is negative. I so want to be well and hoping that the dilation has been a fix for you! Thanks for sharing your experience with this. It really helps!

Why does it feel like I've swallowed a scrub brush?

Sometimes I have trouble with water too. I can't tolerate protein shakes. On Monday, I'm going to call surgeon's office and ask for the endoscopy.

I know how you feel. Are you any better today?

Why does it feel like I've swallowed a scrub brush?

I had the upper GI and the radiologist could not see a problem. The fact remains, there is a problem. I don't understand what is going on. Should I ask for an endoscopy in case there is something missed by upper GI?
  12. Smiley, my surgeon never talked about a goal weight. The program nurse noted I would be at 70% weight loss when I reached 125. I'm 57 so I would be happy with 125. I've lost 28 lbs since surgery on June 26. I had two surgeries to remove hernias 7 days and 14 days post op. I'm still having problems eating and drinking. Getting an upper GI in the morning and I really think I have a stricture. I did have a 2 week stall in which I didn't lose an ounce, but that's normal. Wishing you the best!
  13. I'm 4'11.5 and was approved for bypass at the weight of 185. Had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. With you having diabetes, it seems you wouldn't have a problem being approved. I did have surg on June 26 and can't tell you how many times people have said they can't believe I qualified for surgery. I just say well I did and insurance sure wouldn't approve if I didn't qualify.
