My name is Samantha, I am 24 years old. I have been over weight since the 6th grade. My father passed away when I was in the 5th grade, definitely used food as an emotional escape. I have been over weight my entire life, however the past 2 years I gained about 50 pounds. That was my limit. I used to weigh 190 and I was fine with that. I was curvy but not extremely fat and I accepted my body. I slowly noticed in the past 2 years my clothes getting tighter and that I couldn't breathe when walking up the stairs. I just couldn't deal with these feelings. I started looking into weight loss surgery back in 2011, but didn't have the best insurance and was okay with being the 190 pound I was. I did plenty of research the past 3 years and just made the decision back in February of this year. It was a stressful time just trying to get all the pre op things you have to get. I have horizon blue cross blue shield and did not have to go through a 6 month program like some other insurances. I'm only a month post op and haven't received all the insurance stuff yet so I don't know exactly how much I will have to pay back. Fingers crossed it won't be so bad. At first I wasn't sure I made the right decision. It was very difficult for me to get through phase 1. The mental aspect is much harder than I thought. I also developed servers acid reflux and ended up in the emergency room a week after I got home. I couldn't drink anything because it was so painful. I ended up see rely dehydrated. Luckily I was prescribed medicine and have been doing much better. I am excited to continue this process and become a healthier person.
