Hate chewable multivitamins
virtualpisces replied to sleeve4086222015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just have to keep trying different options until you find one that suits you. I use Vitafusion for my Calcium and Vitamin C chews and for my actual vitamin, I use Envie by NutraKey - its a powder I put in Water. I buy them all through amazon. I've found this to be the most complete source for me to get in my Vitamins. My bloodwork came back and wasn't so great so we needed to adjust my supplements which is when I switched to the Envie and with in a few days I felt back to my normal self again. I don't work for the company or get any kickback, its just that effective I feel the need to share. In addition to being a Multivitamin, it is also fortified with greens, antioxidants, amino acids, minerals, and immune boosting nutrients. Good Luck! -
The Honeymoon is O.V.E.R.
virtualpisces replied to MizzouFan1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@, thank you for your post! It reminded me WHY I joined this site in the first place. We all have so much in common and it's GREAT for accountability. I haven't been on the site in too long, but I came back because I realized I hadn't lost but 2 lbs in almost three months. After I had a WTF moment, my exact thoughts were honeymoon is officially over! I know stalls are common and I had week long ones around my 5 month mark, but 3 months and 2 lbs was upsetting me! I'm very proud of the 107 lbs I've lost, but I still have a long way to go (63 more!) and I want my honeymoon back, damn it! I'm going to take a look at my calorie consumption as others have suggested. Good luck! -

Out with the Old in with the New!
virtualpisces replied to virtualpisces's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, thank stinks! I was hoping to put an easy link. If you download the app, there is a person icon on the top left, you just have to type in luciddezin - my closet name. The website is a little more tricky. I think because they want you to use their app... But if you are on the website and click search type in Aqua/Periwinkle - the color of one of my shirts... And you can see my closet. I can post pics on here too if that makes it easier ???? -

Lower Back / Intestional Pain - Go to Dr or Not
virtualpisces replied to virtualpisces's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That would have been my first question as well. Fortunately, I'm regular. Not like pre-surgery, but once a day. Even thought may be gas so I've been taking extra strength gas x. So odd. The fact that it hurts after eating or drinking is what's baffling me. Thought it may be gallstone or pancreas related. -
Lower Back / Intestional Pain - Go to Dr or Not
virtualpisces posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll start by saying I have contacted my surgeons office and I'm waiting for a reply. In the meantime, any lessons learned experience/insight is appreciated! I was sleeved back on 7/11. Have been doing pretty well to date. At the end of last week I started having lower back pain that's level of intensity comes and goes but the pain is constant and feeling very fatigued. Now if I eat or drink I have abdominal cramping/pain - not in my stomach region - more intestines region. No vomiting or diarrhea just nauseous after I eat/drink. I thought maybe I had a bladder infection even though my urine is light. I wanted to see if any of you have experienced this before and or if you think it's something to go to the ER over. I'm generally a wait and see what happens kind of girl, but since surgery, I tend to be a little more anxious. -
tall female sleevers...
virtualpisces replied to elhudge's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm so happy I saw this thread I'm 6'1 and just had my sleeve last week. Starting weight was 369 and my goal is 199. My Dr is great with that number as I'm big boned and playing college basketball at my fittest I was 195. Charts suggest 175-185 but I feel like that would be too thin for me. I guess my plan is to see how I feel when I get there. Good to know there are some 6'+ ladies on here -
I'm finally doing better today. I had bad reaction to the anesthesia and pain meds but my tummy is healing great they also ended up doing a hernia repair which I didn't anticipate but so far all is well! How are you doing?

Blood thinner shots - how long?
virtualpisces replied to livingmore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to do mine for 28 days. The key to not have pain is to go in quick and at a slight angle and then do not rub the site. I've had to do these for 4 months several years ago with I had a pulmonary embolism. It's worth the pain of the shots if it can prevent the blood clot. Sorry you have pain! -
Braniem19 did you have your surgery today?! Excited to hear how you are feeling. I have 2 more days!

I know we are responsible how we feel, that others cannot “make” us feel a certain way. But what I realize as I get more comfortable and begin to discuss the surgery with some of my friends and family is that I feel shame or like I’m a failure. Perhaps it’s because I’m an over achiever in all other areas of my life but this or perhaps it’s because they imply I’m taking the easy way out or giving up or not trying hard enough and question if I have to control my food intake anyway, why am I putting my body & finances through the surgery ringer? When they look at my 366 lb, 6’1” frame, they say I carry it well and can’t see that I have a real problem. I’m sorry, but no one carries 167 lbs well It seriously makes me question whether or not I’m coping out, KNOWING this isn’t going to be easy. Oddly, as I explain my decision to have the surgery because it is a tool and it’s not just weightloss surgery, that I have 8 co-morbid conditions and the surgery can resolve them in a couple of weeks, I further solidify the fact that I’ve made the right decision in my mind, but I’m still left with a “bad” feeling and they still don’t get it. I want to feel excited and less scared but I’m feel angry at the lack of support from people who “love me.” I understand we should shed toxic relationships, but some of these relationships are healthy on every other front. In a culture where people are dying from obesity, I feel like there should be more awareness and acceptance, but that’s another topic. I know I cannot possibly be the only one feeling this way. If you have experienced these feelings, how have you dealt with it? Both internally and with others?

Self Pay Peeps - Anyone elect to sign up for BLISS?
virtualpisces posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
BLISS is a "surgery insurance" my surgeon is offering - but not pushing by any means. It will cover any additional surgery if there are complications. I can elect for coverage for 30, 90 or 180 days - each amount of time is a different price. I was wondering for those of you who are self pay, did you or would you elect for this coverage? And if so, how much time would you elect to have it for? -
Self Pay Peeps - Anyone elect to sign up for BLISS?
virtualpisces replied to virtualpisces's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you all! Sleeveless in seattle, I did research to learn that it's a GOOD thing if my Dr is able to offer the BLIS. So like you've said, only those with a good track record can even offer it. I've decided to go with the 90 day. May hurt my pockets a little now but it's definately better than a lot later! -

Did either of you ladies have an option to choose a length of time or was a time limit selected for you? Either way, how long was it? Sorry for the 50 questions I appreciate your feedback! -

Self Pay Peeps - Anyone elect to sign up for BLISS?
virtualpisces replied to virtualpisces's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
$1,070 for the 30 day coverage... $1225 for 90 day and $1396 for 180 days. I've heard MOST (not all) complications, if they are going to happen, happen in the first 90 days. Not sure of the accuracy of that. -
SherB, you sound like a VERY loving mom. I have tears in my eyes when I read your last line... "I hope I'm not messing her up" ... I too have thought that at times about my son and it can be crippling. What I have come to realize is that if I love him, teach him and make effort to be present every day in his life, he will love my imperfect self! I can imagine your little girl feels the same way She is going to beem with joy with you when you reach your goal, not because you look fantastic, but because you feel fantastic and that light will beam into her.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS POST!!! I'm having surgery in a few weeks and it's great reading posts like yours Congrats on the loss and feeling of fullness. This also just made me realize how much money I will save when eating out! One Panera soup will last me 4 meals!

I have a 12 year old son. He is very tall (5’11), and was average weight until he broke his leg a couple months ago. Without the activity and eating what he wanted he is now about 20 pounds overweight. He feels like he looks like me, but I don’t think he does. If he stays active and eats sensibly, he is at a healthy weight. If not, he puts on weight like crazy. I believe genetics play a huge role in relation to obesity and our children, but I also believe we can create a safe environment to teach them about food for power and the right kind of exercise, etc. He has so much pressure in middle school to be “thin” not even fit. Kids tease him. It’s even worse for the girls. With that said, I come from a family of 3 girls, I’m the oldest. Our mom was overweight most of our life (size 16-20) and was a 4/6 in high school. She has since figured she has a thyroid problem, lost all the weight and has maintained a size 8 for 10 years now. Even with that she still obsesses over weight. Our dad is 6'6, 380 and has been our whole life. Weight was ALWAYS been an issue and so much value was placed upon it growing up - from my mom and her sisters, not my dad. He is a huge bear and everyone loves him showing us size didn't really matter, but the pull of the ladies with unhealthy body image crap all the time, we struggled. We were all athletes but even with that, we had to watch what we ate. Unfortunately, my middle sister and I (at different times) both developed eating disorders partly because we were so paranoid we would look like my mom, partly because we had control issues – there is a lot of psychology that doesn’t involve food in eating disorders. Our mom had NO idea we were both anorexic and bulimic. Fortunately, our youngest sister, who was younger by 9 years – this matters to an extent because she views me as a mom of sorts- never developed an eating disorder. We made sure to tell her how beautiful she was at any weight. We encouraged her to eat healthy and were always active with her. When she started to gain weight after college, about 65 lbs, she refused to be “like us” and tackled her “weight genes” as I like to call them then. My middle sister after college gained 80 lbs. Both of them were able to loose their weight and they are able to maintain it by remaining very active, exercising 3-5 times a week and eating a high Protein diet. They “cheat” on occasion, but if they ate “normal” and didn’t exercise, I believe they would look more like me. With all of that said, your daughter is right to be health conscious – but to a “healthy” extent. Not to avoid looking like you per se, but so her weight doesn’t get out of control. As a parent, I know it is horrible to watch and we don’t want to watch our kids stress out over what they eat. You have made a very important decision to change your life and become healthy. Once you show her by example how to be healthy, maybe she will be open to modifying her behavior some.

Friends & Feelings
virtualpisces replied to virtualpisces's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you all for your responses. I feel empowered It's interesting that I've never really been someone to read/follow blogs or forums. Now, I find when I need support, I turn to you all because you understand and have so much to say that resonates with me. This community in invaluable! 2muchfun, you are so right! Surprisingly, PCP's & nutritionists really don’t understand. Luckily, my PCP does. She has been trying to get me to consider this for 4 years. CowgirlJane, I think my parents finally get it when I explain that it is Metabolic & Bariatric surgery. I found this link that explains something my therapist explained to me about Set Point. You may find it interesting. I found myself shaking my head in agreement. http://www.realize.com/education/understanding-metabolic-health Roo101769, I have never felt more serious about losing until I faced whether or not to do the surgery. Mental strength and focus are so incredibly important. You are so right. BigGirlPanties, first, I LOVE your username I often say time to put on my big girl panties before tackling something that will be challenging, perhaps that's what I need to do now! That and invest in some bikrchk, so sorry to hear about your dad. I have a 12 year old son and recently he told me he feels like he's watching me die. It broke my heart!! That was part of my modivation. Also, I’m hoping by watching my journey, my dad will feel comfortable to explore the possibility of WLS. He’s 6’6, 380 and has been my whole life. While he is pretty active, I can see the toll it takes on his body and I know he wishes he could do more. I want him to have health and relief so badly. Also, I’ve had an unexplained respiratory cold since February, they thought it was pneumonia, then whooping cough. I do have sleep apnea, so we thought it was connected to that. Doctors they never considered reflux and my episodes happen to occur after eating/drinking or laying flat. Thanks for sharing! -
Good luck! I know the insurance process can be a bear but stay on them and hope you get through quickly!!
