Low-carb ice cream for maintenance stage
Kooky1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not truly planning out what to eat while in maintenance stage since I only had surgery yesterday, but a Facebook pal posted this and I wanted to share. http://www.halotop.com/flavors/ They have around 5 net carbs per serving because there are 9 grams of Fiber and 5 grams of sugar alcohol. My surgery is tomorrow. I have had two surgeries prior to this, both were on my mouth. This will actually be a shorter surgery but much more invasive and I am terrified. I keep telling myself that I can continue the way I am going now and be guaranteed a short, miserable life. I guess it's a minor victory that I haven't sought out comfort foods. I will continue update this thread with my journey. I know I will likely stall around my birthday ( 5/31/16). With it beings my birthday, I usually get a ton of free meals which I won't be getting them this year and hopefully for the years to come. Instead, I think I am going to have a spa say which will include a lymphatic massage, a 45 minute session in a steam room (water!!), and ultrasonic machine that is supposed to with the breakdown of cells and aid in removing toxins. My theory (totally cosmetic) is that this may help with the stall by getting the toxins out. Has anyone tried lymphatic massage before? Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App

For those with a hundred or more lbs to lose, it seems the weight is shed be quicker. This isn't always the case, though. What is your goal weight? Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App -
are there arizona insurance policies that cover skin removal surgery?
Kooky1 replied to gabby21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if you would be interested in doing these procedures in Mexico, but the surgeries are usually a lot cheaper. There's a few members here who went abroad for surgery. I plan on going to the Dominican Republic where it is about $3500 to $5000 for a tummy tuck, liposculpture, and breast lift or bbl all combined. Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App -
Do you think I could hide the sleeve from my doctor?
Kooky1 replied to Trying to decide's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Any type of bariatric surgery is non-waivable in the militery. You trying to hide it would be unethical and dishonest which will impact your discharge, and you will be discharged once the surgery is learned. Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App -

What are you looking forward to after WLS and the weight comes off?

I am looking forward to participating in my office's softball league. -
I'm starting to feel afraid. My surgery is scheduled for Friday. My body feels ready for the change, but my mind isn't quite at the same place.

I am prescribed metformin and spironolactone to treat my PCOS. My surgery is scheduled for Friday. My doctor has not (yet) mentioned that I should stop these medications after the surgery. I'm a little afraid to stop taking them. Not only because I just re-filled them but also because when I stopped for a month,my mustache grew in. Bleh.

I know some competitive lifters and they have to periodically load up on carbs. They eat a low carb diet most days but then may have a carb loading day once or twice a week. Since the post-op diet recommends (or requires) a low carb diet, I do wonder how lack of carbs will affect weight training?

Surgeon accidentally cutting the liver?
Kooky1 replied to Rainy Days's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor essentially requires a ketogenic diet. Must stay below 30 grams of carbs per day. Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App -
Surgery on 4/29. Cleaning out kitchen. What can I keep?
Kooky1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow, I will do a deep clean of my condo, preparing for my surgery at the end of the month. I will be throwing out a lot of food in my fridge and freezer (mostly processed stuff) and from the cabinets. Some items are unopened and can keep for a few months. So, I'm wondering if I can keep them for the soft foods phase or not. 1. unopened container of Peanut Butter (maybe something for maintenance phase) 2. unopened container of mayo (can you eat chicken salad during the soft foods phase?) 3. unopened truffle oil 4. canned vegetables (mostly green Beans, corn, and collard greens) 5. new can of seasoned salt 6. frozen italian sausage (my doctor said no pork for 4 months??) 7. cans of manchich (to mix ground turkey or beef--says 5 net carbs per 1/4 cup serving) I am shocked at how much processed foods I have in my shelves. Boxes of mac & cheese, hamburger helper, Pasta, and cereals. Then, I have frozen meals, frozen burritos, multiple containers of ice cream. Whew. I'll donate what I can but so much of it will have to be thrown away, and I know it's probably going to be hundreds and hundreds of dollars gone. I do have cans and packaged containers of chicken and bone broth which I'll obviously keep for the clear liquid phase. I'll be doing the clear liquid phase for 15 days then onto the soft food phase. Unfortunately, my doctor's instructions for the soft food phase weren't very detailed; just recommending fat-free yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled and boiled eggs, and fat-free pudding. Any feedback would be appreciated! -
Oh. And also look at Etsy! I am really digging kaftans right now and there seems to be a good selection. Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App

You may want to try modcloth.com. Definitely fits the Bohemian style plus others. I know I will be picking up a few dresses from there. Great thing is their clothes go from XS to XXXL on some things. Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App

Such great results. We are at similar starting points. I am now 292 lbs. My new goal is 140. I now feel it is actually possible to reach it. I am planning to purchase a bike to ride to work. I live about 1.5 miles from my work. Then do Strongman 5x5 when I can start weights and incorporate pilates and kickboxing. Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App

Okay. Maybe not. Well. Here's the thing. I have been in therapy before so I know this about myself. I have a fear of success. I can be on the brink of something big, but then I will allow myself to retreat and hide. I have been on diets. I lost 80 or so lbs on my own. But then I quickly put that back on. I have tried so many things that have given me results but then I get into a self-defeating mindset and I crash and burn. My surgery is scheduled for 4/29. Of course, I want to sabotage myself by going off my pre-op diet. I won't because I feel the sleeve will be the tool to break my sabotaging habits. I will miss being able to eat a double cheeseburger, large fries, and large coke, but I won't miss busting through clothes, feeling awkward in my body, and the general pains that go with obesity. Sigh. Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App

I am also scheduled for next Friday. I was put on a two week pre-op diet but didn't start until Monday when my surgery was approved. I am on a keto diet, eating under 25 net carbs a day. Sent from my SM-G360T using the BariatricPal App

I have a FSA & I don't know where I can use it.
Kooky1 posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I set up a FSA for surgery. When I first signed up, I asked if it could be used towards bariatric surgery and I was told it was. In subsequent conversations, I learned that I could not use my FSA for surgery in Mexico. At least, that's what one customer service representative said. Another said that I could use it anywhere as long as they were set up for medical billing. So, I have money in my FSA available but I can't find a bariatric surgeon (in Mexico) who has either a US billing address or a credit card processing agent with medical billing. I was looking into Dr. Montoyera and Dr. Illan, but I have started researching BeLiteWeight. My FSA is set up that I can either use my Master Card to pay for my invoice or my FSA will pay after the procedure has been completed (which most Mexican surgeons require payment at or before surgery). Anyone successful using a FSA credit card in Mexico? -

Thanks. I sent a message through the contact form to Lori (??). I hope they can make arrangements for my FSA. Does anyone know what his price range is for sleeve? Prices have gone up since I first began researching in 2014.
