Prior to surgery I gave up caffeine because I was told it is an irritant to the stomach. I have not started back on it, but at some point I would like to resume a cup of coffee in the morning. I am willing to do decaf but would prefer caffeinated coffee. I am now 3 months out from surgery and wonder if it is safe to resume? Or should I stay away from caffeine permanently?

Thank you for all the input. I have my 3 month check up this Friday and I will discuss with the RN. I just wanted to see what actual sleevers had experienced. ????

June 2nd Sleever - almost 7 weeks out... GAS from Protein Drink!
wifusg replied to LovetoDive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering if you are referring to Premier Protein Drink? If so, I know they contain whey carbonate instead of whey isolate. From what I understand whey carbonate is harder to digest and that could be causing the gas problem. Other people have drank this protein with no issue, but you may not be able to digest them anymore. Also I've heard that even though they contain 30g of protein, you are only getting a portion bc your body cannot break the whey carbonate down to absorb all the protein. I am no expert, this is just info I have gathered in my journey. Good luck, hope you get it figured out. -
Thank you the suggestion and encouragement! I will keep doing what I'm doing and try increasing my calories for a couple days! :-)

I had my surgery 6/5 (6 weeks ago) I lost 16 pounds on pre op diet. I have lost 17.8 since surgery and I am STUCK at 220. Scale has been fluctuating between 220.8 and 220 for last 10 days. I am getting 64 oz of fluids and 70 grams of protein daily mostly from protein shakes, Greek yogurt, beans, tuna, string cheese and just added chicken. Trying to keep carbs under 60g. In the last 2 weeks I am getting about 600 calories a day. I am feeling very discouraged and seeking advice to help get the scale moving. Help!!!

June sleevers, check-in!
wifusg replied to cutiecake's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HW - 253.8 SW - 237.8 CW - 224 Sleeved on 6/5 First 2 weeks were really hard. I was so sick of Clear liquids, lol!! But it has gotten better now that I am on Greek yogurt, Protein shakes with milk and just got to add Beans. Each week I am getting my energy back more and more! Good luck to all the June sleevers! -
I'm seeing lots of comments about carbs. My NUT stressed protein and gave me protein goal, but really didn't say much about carbs. I'm doing mostly protein shakes with skim milk and Greek yogurts at this point. Both seem to be high in carbs. Just wondering what a daily limit of carbs should be?

I was just wondering how long we have to avoid drinking out of straws? Not a huge issue, but it would make it easier to drink protein shakes if I could use a straw ???? I am almost 3 weeks out from surgery. My diet is mostly protein shakes, Greek yogurts, and clear broth with added unflavored protein at this point.

I have a child with tree nut allergies, so I am leary to keep Almond Milk in the fridge just in case he accidentally uses it. But, I may have to give it a try and just put it on a different shelf than his milk. Thank you for suggestions. :-)

I do eat the Dannon light and fit Greek yogurts. I have tried drinking protein shakes with water instead of milk and I cannot stand them that way. I'm usually around 40 carbs per day and was just wondering if that's too high. But from the responses I've seen, I think I'm ok. Thanks to everyone for the input!

RATS!! Oh well, guess it's just another lifelong change I have to make! Thanks for input.

2 weeks out and have had no breakouts whatsoever. Still on full liquids, so not sure if this will change as my diet changes.

I am 16 days post op and recovering well. Recently got a chest cold and have been coughing a lot. No fever and feeling fine other than cough. I am worried about my new tummy. Will all this coughing cause damage to it and delay healing on the inside?

It is major surgery and you will feel weak afterwards. Just focus on getting your fluids in so you do not get dehydrated. Plan on taking it easy for at least a week afterwards.

I had the sleeve procedure done this past Thursday, June 5th. After surgery I was super nauseous with severe gas pains. I managed to get my fluids in and walked a lot. Was released from the hospital Friday morning. Still had some nausea and gas pain, but was feeling somewhat better. I almost puked while taking pain meds but I managed to breathe through it and not throw up. I walked A LOT and that provided relief from gas. Today my nausea is gone and I was able to get my fluids in fairly easy, I am thankful, but also concerned. It seems like I should not be able to drink clear liquids so easily this early on. I have only had broth, water, vitamin water zero and sugar free Popsicles. But it still seems like I should not be able to get those items down so easily 2 days after surgery. Hoping the doctor took out enough of my stomach and that this is not an indication that he did not. Has anyone else experienced my situation?
