How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hi there! I'm pretty new around here, just banded 9/26/7, so I can't tell you how my weight loss is going yet. My first follow-up is 10/9/7 and I've been doing ok. Just began soft food today, rather timidly. I know it's part of the transition to regular food, but I'm still a little nervous about 'leaving the liquids' behind. Did anyone else feel this way? Thanks a bunch!

    Bionic Woman!

This is so silly, I had to share. Hope it's not one of those 'you had to be there moments.' Here goes... Last night my husband and I were laying in bed (G rated story), watching a show I had recorded...Bionic Woman. When the show was over, I tried to roll on my port side to give him a kiss, but was having some difficulty. He was ready, puckered, and patient. I think I said something like, "Ouch, ouch, ooch, oops, wait.... my Bionic Port is giving me problems." We both just started laughing! Now I know what that guy meant when he said, "It only hurts when I laugh." You can guess my new nickname now.

    Should you tell?

Should you tell......that is a great question. I also tried Medifast a year ago and lost 50 pounds; people at work were very encouraging. Then went on vacation and the weight crept back on...and then some. I felt like such a failure. So, I decided, at first to keep the LBS on the Q.T. and just discuss with family and a few close friends who were all very supportive. I've received no negativity about my decision from others. In fact many people said they knew of someone who was also banded with much success. Hey, if you encounter negative people, remember the line from Desiderata......"Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to your Spirit." If you just trust your instincts, your gut...you'll know what to say, whether you disclose the surgery or say, "I've been eating less and exercising." (WHICH is true.) Irisheyes123 Banded 9/26/7

  10. Hey to you luvtolaugh! I always say, "When Irish Eyes Are Smilin', they are usually up to something!" I do love to laugh, but not with 4 day old stitches. There is so much on these forums, still getting my feet wet and poking around different threads, figuring out what to read, where to post, it's a lil overwhelming. AND getting used to a new Notebook PC my hubby bought to use while I'm recouperating. Nice meeting you! Irisheyes123 banded 9/26/07

    Introduction

Hi Pamela! Thank you for the reply. Good to know there is someone out there 'listening'. The clear liquids my first week is monotonous, but knowing new foods will be introduced when my tummy is ready is good to know.

    Introduction

Hello y'all, I'm a Newbie! I've been lurking around this wonderful website for awhile and finally found the courage to join y'all. A quick intro: I'm 58 years old, happily married Florida lady who was banded Sept. 26, 2007, just 4 days ago! I've investigated various weight loss surgeries for 2 years since I was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Diabetes was being controlled with meds until the past 6 months or so,when my numbers were going up, UP, UP! The weight increased too. Frustrating! Enough history. Surgery on Sep.26th went well, with an overnite stay and my husband there with his loving support and help getting me out of bed and walking me around. This is the first day I've been downstairs and computering...I need some advice. Here is my question... I'm on Clear liquids for the first week and have no complaints since I understand the stomach needs to heal. But, how much chicken broth, tea, Water, does one consume at a sitting? I'm not sure how much Fluid the pouch will hold, or does it go thru fairly quickly? I'd like to thank y'all for the support you can offer me. Best of luck to everyone.
