Spouse unable to deal with changes
#9grammy replied to hbrhonda's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh my that was such good advice coming from the mans point! -
Yes those goodies as I call it! My husband has chocolate chip cookies, chocolate covered Graham's, chips different kinds. So glad my taste changed! I tasted chips at 1 year post and gross! Chocolate of any kind oh except white tee hehe I can't stand. Peanut butter or anything with nuts is yuck to me. I used to love pp&j sandwiches. I can't even drink diet sodas, they burn in my belly? even to stir bubbles out it taste flat. I took a drink of my daughters oh man diet Dr Pepper, big mistake yuckie. Glad my taste has changed, though I eat real food now I will also put yogurt in freezer or now and then a scoop of frozen yogurt that comes in an ice cream container. My husband is not tolerant of dairy so he still love his frozen yogurt! So hopefully one of these days you can look at that "stuff" laying around on a table at work won't bother you as much

Spouse unable to deal with changes
#9grammy replied to hbrhonda's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's just me and the husband also, he's never stopped me from doing this. It was my choice, but I did want him in with me. Almost 2 years out and we go to dinner a lot during some weeks, I counted that I made dinner twice in one week. There was so much leftovers in fridge that I made it all in 2 days for the both of us. Days we stay home like tonight, I might pull out chicken breast or hamburgers. He will grill but I have to come out to make sure it's done. Sometimes I will have 3 breast on so dinner is made for the next day. He puts bbq sauce on his and mine no sauce sometimes I just put a little on my plate to dip sparingly so I feel I'm not left out. Last night I was on my lap pad till almost 5pm! Yep sometimes we get carried away and sometimes not. So he said lets go get Mexican ok I said. I had refried Beans and a steak Quesadilla with tomatoe and lettuce, wrong thing to order for me. Did not like the steak at all but ate few bites and didn't take any home. So here I sit with 3/4 still on my plate or more, told my husband I couldn't eat anymore he just looked at me and finished his plate. 9 times outta 10 times I take home a doggie bag as we call it cuz our 2 babies love it when we come home smelling of food! Usually it's just a bite or two to them and in fridge it goes. And I'm sorry but I can't eat a meal without a sip of water! Yep big no no I know. I take so many meds my mouth is consistently dry, Down to the teeth, so it's very hard for food to go down when I eat certain things. I do hope everyone out there is doing their best keeping the men/women in your life happy. Take home your leftovers and have some for lunch while they are at work or you take some to work if that's what you do. My husband is 63 and retired from ARMY and UPS, so he doesn't work any more. I am disabled due to COPD and Bipolar/Anxiety. We're together most times 24/7, love him being home with me. He's napping on the couch next to me and I'm on my iPad reading a lot of questions and answers. You don't realize how this site has gotten me back where I started from. Guess I got a little carried away there on this reply. Valentina, I'm so sorry for your loss. The reply you gave was so moving to me thank you. -
Pre-op Vitamins regimen
#9grammy replied to Sugarnspice's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have taken 2 Flintstones calcium rich ones, my surgeon recommended that kind plus a calcium gummie. But I also started at the beginning of 6 month weight check and some counseling from my PC I found out about biotin vitamins, I tale 10,000 units ? Every day, still do. It has helped me to have my hair not to drop out as much and better nails. -
Shoulder Pain after rapid weightloss
#9grammy replied to sleevingbeauty17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't do anything to tear my right side rotator cuff, sometimes it just happens. But I do know when I tore the left side, out camping and leaned over to pick up something beside the couch in our camper and OMG the pain was horrible. A X-Ray won't show a muscle being torn, it's just to see if it's broke. X-Rays are more for seeing the bones, a trip to an Ortho dr so he can send you to get a MRI would be most helpful. -

Shoulder Pain after rapid weightloss
#9grammy replied to sleevingbeauty17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had torn my rotator cuff on left shoulder 3 years ago and had surgery. This year in March I had my right shoulder done, what the heck no trauma to it. i don't think it was weight related this one was sore 6 months before I went to Drs. So go now to your doctors office and talk with him/her. They have ways to move it that if its torn it will put you to your knees! I had to do physical therapy for 6 weeks before he could send me to Ortho dr (thank you Obamacare) and he the Ortho dr ordered the MRI which proved it was torn. I'm still recovering from it, one of the worse painful operations and recoveries there is. My surgeon said people would rather have a knee replaced than to go through this again! -
First time vomiting spell
#9grammy replied to Janiegirl1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know almost 2 years out and I've not thrown up at all. I kept waiting because a lot of people on here have or had done it. I've gotten sick to my stomach if I took that last bite that tasted so so good! -
Approved - Tricare South
#9grammy replied to keto_jo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are so lucky with Tricare, they would not even pay for me and they are a second payer to Medicare! So I had to come up with a couple thousand for the hospital stay and Doctor fees. Getting it approved so fast by them is great news! How long does it take for things to get started? Every dr is different. I had to wait for 4 weeks to get on his schedule after I had to see a PCP who monitored my weighted each month . Then during that time you have meetings to attend and medical procedures to go through. Oh and some ant you to lose anywhere from 20 to 10 pounds before so they can see your really going to do this. Good luck! -
Getting sick of protein shakes--literally
#9grammy replied to magoosmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only shake I can handle is Unjury. I have to use a quarter scoop of strawberry in with the vanilla. I also have unflavored if I need something boosted. Yes almost 2 yrs out and still using a shake. Mainly in morning and at times lunch. My husband is a snack alcohalic, right now he's eating chips! Won't eat 3 meals a day, never has. So I keep fruits and veggies and shakes in my cupboard. There is a lot of different protein drinks out there buttt you hav to buy a lot of it if it's powder, Unjury you can order 1 serving packs and try them all. Gosh I sound like a Unjury spokesperson lol. -
Which Food Did (Or Will) You Miss the Most?
#9grammy replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
You know I loved eggs any which way I could get them. I'd go to IHOP and get scrambled with cheese and a sausage link. Now I'm not tolerating eggs made different ways except for hard boiled. My belly gets nauseated just a couple bites in, and this is where my go to protein when I needed more. I also get a 1/2 pancake from my husband might eat 1/4th of it but wow it's good and it's my treat now and then. -

Bipolar disorder question
#9grammy replied to AZDesertRose76's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Whitchystar, I've been in your shoes... I have Bipolar with Anxiety, I had to get a letter from my physiologists. I wouldn't ask him because he is the best there is in our town. I see a psychologists every 2 weeks now, just started that few months ago. Been seeing him every week for years. Since he knew me better than my psych Dr I asked him to write a letter. He did and it went through just fine. I have had too readjust my meds probably a year and half ago? They put me on Abilify, took that for a year I guess, 1/2 pill twice a day. When I asked if I could take it whole he said go ahead and try, well it didn't work even going back on it twice a day. Been taking Seraquel XR for 5 months and have awful side effects with it. Last month I saw dr again he put me on Latuda, I've only been on it a few days now. I also take Celexa and Welbutrin. So yes your meds might change on you too. Take your paper into the Phychiatrist on your 15 min apt and ask him then to fill it out. I -
Which Food Did (Or Will) You Miss the Most?
#9grammy replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I miss chocolate! and Diet Pepsi or any soda that is diet. I lost my sense of smell this is the 3rd year were going on. Yep and over the years it has effective my taste, chocolate is no, chips is no, anything that has any chocolate in it, peanuts an peanut butter. I guess this has helped me, but I sure miss smelling and tasting those foods again! -
Our Chineese doesn't allow any of that sharing, lower price, eat from weighted container. But my husband and I still go maybe once every 6 weeks. We do eat out a lot, but I always have over half a plate go home with me. Probably 3-4 times in a week, yeah I don't like cooking and he doesn't cook. But now I'm hungry for Chineese and guess what? We're going there any time now, lol.
-
Oh ours has fresh vegetables so you can have it grilled. But the fresh veggies I just go back and have them raw!
-
When I go I will get some chicken and broccoli, I pick it out lol. Some times a small spoon of rice, I never go for the crusted items, and there is always something to eat. Hard boiled eggs and unsweetened jello, you will find lots to try, but don't fill your plate with this just small amounts, and even then I'm giving them back more than I eat.

What happens when a sleever reaches old age and low appetite?
#9grammy replied to TracyBar's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My mom is in an assistant living for past 3-4 years. She had gastric surgery a week before my baby shower in 1978. She had permission to come here then back to home. She did stay in hospital a few days, but yes she is 81 now and so thin. She doesn't remember having gastric surgery and has dementia bordering on Alzheimer's. She hardly eats at all! Not hungry so why eat she says. And she has the better be by a bathroom quick after eating to much food or just eating some other food that she shouldn't be eating. And my sisters wonder why her pain medication isn't helping her! Dah it goes right through her. I've told them but they don't think so... No one but my daughter and one sister knows about mine. But I'm taking notes for old age! -
New relationship after sleeve surgery
#9grammy replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My now husband of 18 months now, we have lived together for 12 years. We opened a joint account from same bank, we each put in so much each month to pay all the bills, except our own personal bills. He has his money coming in and I have mine. We both don't work he's retired and I'm well, disabled with bipolar and COPD. We each know this and are completely aggreable with this. I usually do grocery's and he mainly pays for dinner out. We do pay back and forth at times with the food bill. Only thing that changed was the federal joint tax papers, yes we now file together. And he keeps refund which isn't much. Seeing most my dollars is not taxable. So hopefulgirl you don't really need to tell each other your finances. That is my opinion. -
Yes I still take a protonics (think that's how u spell it) everyday.

Mental health clearance issues
#9grammy replied to WitchySar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whichysar, I also have bipolar and anxiety issues. The surgeon here has everyone get a mental health clearance. They also have some psychiatrist that will do it for a cost. Shoot how do they know your stable? I've been seeing my psychologist for many years now. I asked him to do this for me seeing he knows how I am. My phyciatrist couldn't do it even though I see him every 3 months for my meds. Ask if your therapist could write an accesment for your clearance, he/she is the one that knows you best. Best of luck -
Do you ever feel like you can eat more than 1 cup at one sitting?
#9grammy replied to AchieveGoals's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you will be able to eat more than a cup. I still drink Unjury shake most days twice. Then a sensible dinner, in between I will munch on fruit or veggies. I do throw in about 4 yogurt pretzels sometime for a treat. I've been at a stand still for a long time so this is what I'm doing to try and get things moving again. I still have about 11 pounds to get rid of. It's so hard for me to cook meals that I should be eating, my husband loves his noodles and rice. This was my staple for years seeing we've been together for11 years. On those days I have had a cup of spaghetti, or a bit of rice when I fix him chicken and rice. I have gotten the whole wheat noodles and rice and he can't tell the difference. -
I also have gerd, I take nexium every day have for years. My gerds has been better for me since my surgery!
-
Another thing you can start on is your hair. Yes there is loosing of the hair! I have been fortunate in that area, started 6 months before surgery taking 10,000 of the Biotin. This came up in the first group meeting you go through with the surgeon and NUT. I'm 3 months away from 2 years out and I'm still using Biotin 10,000. At 59 my hair grows fast and thick, my hairstylist is amazed it's really in great condition.
-
I started taking 10,000 mg of biotin about 3 months before surgery. My hair has not fallen out in large strands. In fact my hair is thicker, my nails sure grow fast now too.
