Questions for surgeon
#9grammy replied to ambieambs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have acid reflux really bad, also a hiatal hernia that he will fix during my sleeve. Yes I'm getting a sleeve with acid reflux. Wondering why you can't or some drs won't do it? -
Kayla where did you order it from? Can you post the website?
-
Hi, I have acid reflux really bad. They found I also have the hiatal hernia, which my surgeon said he will fix first. So I'm hoping after the fix and with my sleeve I will no longer have reflux. If I do there is always staying on the stomach pills.

Hi all, I had my pulmonary drs visit yesterday....need a note from him to clear me for surgery. Well he was hesitant saying I don't need weight loss surgery! Why can't i do it the old way? Eat less and exercise and before you eat you get on the scale see what you weigh, then you won't eat much! I was about ready to cry, didn't think he would clear me for wls. Well he gave me a note, I'm stable at this time. Woo hoo! But he wants to see me again Nov 3, just before my surgery I have copd my lungs are pretty bad so here's praying they hold out for surgery!

My fiancé knows (we live together) and my daughter that's it. Just glad my family lives all over the country.
-
Don't get me wrong I enjoy reading the threads from all people, just nice to see older women here and how they react to surgery and life after gastric surgery.
-
Hi everyone, I'm 57 and getting the sleeve hopefully in Nov. Still working on my PCP visits 2 to go, and have a echo and stress test to get done in Sept. Nice to see the thread for 50's, so many threads I read are so young.
-
Hi and welcome, My surgeon required one, he is looking to see if you have problems with your stomach. I have no problems in that area, but I have a hiatal hernia that he will fix when he does my surgery. It really is an easy test and you get to sleep while they do it.

Surgery and wedding 2015
#9grammy replied to ambieambs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ambieambs, I also am getting married but I will do it Jan 31,2015. Just 2 months after my surgery. I do know I won't be eating well but that's ok with me. I'm just hoping I'm up and doing great by then. We will only have my 2 kids and their significant others, 9 grandchildren, down in Gatlinburg, TN. I'm sure you will be doing fine come Nov 2015, you will have enough time to get yourself together. Good luck on your journey! -
Need to make my weight - not what you think
#9grammy replied to rhayla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wear your jeans and tennis shoes, heavy clothing worked for me. I had 3 extra pounds on me from all I wore! lol -
Wow that's awesome! I have to do the 6 month PCP visits and all the prerequisites. 2 more PCP apts to go. Also saw the cardiologists on Friday, have to do stress test and echocardiogram. So will be Nov I imagine before I can be sleeved.
-
Codys mom, I'm 57 and have copd/asthma. Did you have to go to the cardiologists? I have apt on Friday and scared about going! I know I can't do the stress test some on here said they had to do. Just wondering how if u had apt with cardio how it went? I can barely walk a quarter of a mile on tread mill without being sob.

I wish I could tell my mother. She has dementia and wouldn't remember 2 min later what I said :-( Even before the. Dementia I could've told her and she would've been happy. She has gastric bypass in 1978, lost enough weight that she looked healthy. Never had the money to have plastics though. To this day her surgery hasn't been good to her.. Back then they didn't know eat Protein drink Water, was just surgery and your done. Her hair has gone, she has the dumping a lot and doesn't understand why. Her health is so bad, I'm glad we've come farther in the study of wls that we know how to take care of ourselves now. Good luck to all...

Medicare - Part A Deductible
#9grammy replied to LainieG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Tricare as secondary but they don't cover the sleeve, so up to me to pay. I was told about 1800. but might be more. I don't have to pay anything for my other test and doctors seeing the Tricare will kick in for that. Might be my doctor wanting 6 months nutrition , I will find out when I get back from vacation. Up in WI for few days seeing my others mother. Oh and yes I have to pay up front for hospital costs. -
Hi LainieG, I too am retired/disability, and 57 years old. I should b sleeved in November. Going to call Medicare and see if they have a 3 month wait for Nutrician. My dr said 6 months and I've done 4 so far. Welcome to this forum where help is just a click away lol. Linda
-

Hi Cindy from MI, I'm Linda from KY. I was born and raised in MI in a suburb of Det. Welcome to the forum of everything to do with gastric surgery. There are many different forums on here from what to eat, drink to what vitamins are suggested. Even people telling before and after journeys they are on. It's a great site that I have found to be very helpful in my pre surgery journey. You have a question or just want to rant then go ahead, someone on here has been in your situation. Welcome to begiNning your new you! Linda -

Freaking out about hairloss
#9grammy replied to mistymc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been taking 10,000 units of biotin it inthevitaminsection also started Flinstones iron vitamins and b complex. I have noticed a difference I my nails and somewhat hair, new hairs coming in are thicker. I've been using these since June. Just read about it on one of the forums on here. Good luck -
Everyone is different, you can't go by anyone else's weight loss" so far you've lost 53 pounds I'd say your weight has come off faster than some I've read. Go easy on yourself, this weight you have didn't get on you all in one day. Take one day at a time and stop weighing everyday. I've heard that makes it hard on you also. Good luck

Just got approved for the sleeve
#9grammy replied to lmaher718's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Lauren, I've been slowly getting the premier protein drink from Walmart, think SAMs carries it also. It's pricy but I figured for the first couple weeks after surgery it will help with protein seeing it has 30 grams in it. Also getting slimfast for the 2 week before surgery. Tere are others I've tasted and these r best for me. -

Anyone out there have to get an echocardiogram before cardiologist would give you clearance?
#9grammy replied to lose4life2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
maxcimax, I'm on O2 at night and when necessary during the day, so glad to hear you got the clearance. I've been so worried over my breathing, so far my pulmonologist won't sign off till Oct when he sees me again. I have cardio apt Aug 22 and don't know what will happen. I've had CHF and can't pass a regular stress test, I can barely walk a 1/4 mile on treadmill without being sob. My surgeon seems to believe all will work out fine and losing the weight could help my COPD. Again I'm happy to read your post and see you have had the surgery and doing good with your breathing. Thanks Linda
