Have you had a leak in your port/tubing and had to have it replaced?
aa8ua replied to DrewsLou's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I keep showing less in the band than what should be in there. My doctor says there is fluid in there so I do not have a leak. I have read 1 or 2 entries that may suggest otherwise. I do not know. He got it so tight that I had severe chest pain and esophageal spasms,(but I could still eat a fairly small-normal amount), it hurt in my jaw, ears and shoulders. I know it is not my heart because when he took a cc out, it went away. But so did the little restriction I had. I went back in a couple of weeks and he said there was 8 cc in there but there shold have been 10.5. He gave me 1 1/2 cc more 2 weeks ago and I have had some restriction and some esopageal spasms, but not as bad as before. I have only seen 1 or 2 people on this entire site report these feelings with the jaw and esophgus. I thought maybe it slipped but the Nurse Practitioner says that is not the case. I am not sure what is going on. It is lessening a bit- the pain and the restriction. I eat about half my normal and I am satisfied. But the pains concern me. Maybe it is normal? Maybe I should just have him fill a bit more? I think I will have him set me up for flouro again and have him look. -

Nan42, You problem sounds just like mine. I had 9cc we thought but only 6 pulled out. Doctor could not tell for sure if leak from the stills under flouro. Nurse who did flouro was pretty sure it was a leak, so she took it all out. Now she put back in 7.5 cc (no restriction to speak of) Tuesday and we will see how much is in there next tues when I see him (doctor). If it is less, he will do flouro again to verify before surgery to replace the tubing. I am thinking it has a slow leak? But hopeful. Are you getting another fill or what is your next step? -

I was tested yesterday for a leak under flouro by the nurse practitioner. I have lost 25 pounds since the pre-surgery diet. Surgery was 11-7-07. I had my 1st fill on Dec 21 and have lost nothing since. I have had numerous fills and should have been at 9 cc's but only about 6 was in there. The doctor will confirm the leak on Monday when he looks at the flouro. I hope I do not have to pay for the surgery to fix it. I hope it is easy and I heal quickly. The wasted time bothers me the most. Now I worry it could happen again. -
I was banded on the 7th and will get my first fill on Dec 21st. I am doing ok but I seem a little slower on recovery than most on here. I still can't sleep on my side. The port site hurts a bit still. My doctor says everything looks fine and they were not concerned on how I am progressing. I feel better each day. I am on solid foods. Introducing 1 new solid at each meal. I have not had problems eating any foods so far. My favorites have been cheese and crackers and some homemade chili. I have a 10cc VG Band. The Dr. said there is about 1.5 cc fluid in it. I am looking forward to my first fill when I will get to see the band under flouro.

I also had my surgery on the 7th. I am very sore around the port site and also my back hurts(maybe from sleeping in the recliner?) It sounds like some of you are doing better than me. I can't imagine going back to work real soon. It's been just over 72 hours and I also have not gone #2. Hard to believe with all I am eating. Small portions though. I am eating ok and have considerable gas. Some of you asked for ideas of what to eat. My doctor has me on mushies. I have had suger free pudding, cream of wheat with milk, tuna blended w light mayo, v8, Mushroom soup in a blender, a tablespoon of creamy peanut butter-just a little at a time since I heard someone else had trouble with it. I ate dannon light and fit creamy yogurt (strawberry and no pieces in it)-YUM! i also had some baby food green beans:(, sugarfree Popsicles and jello. I know they are not the greatest, but a also had just a small amount of mashed potatoes w a tiny bit of gravy. It is allowed by my doctor as long as I only do the starches and fats 1 or 2 a day. Anyone besides Imonmywmay7368 have a long wait for a bowel movement? How are you doing now Imonmyway7368?

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well. So encouraging! My surgery is in 2 days, the 7th. Going in the right direction from there I hope. Good luck to everyone whose surgery is yet to come. Colleen

April and the gang- I have gained 6 pounds since my last doctor visit. I hope to lose that plus a little because the psychologist that I was required to see to be considered for surgery said they may not do the surgery if I gained it all back(I lost 10 pounds on the insurance required supervised diet). It is hard because I want to eat for all of the obvious reasons. I am having some good days and bad now with regard to diet. I may do a self imposed liquid diet a few days ahead just to be sure. My family is having a pre-thanksgiving turkey dinner with me 4 days before the surgery. A "last meal" sort of. Well, with normal amounts I mean. I will try to hang in there with the diet. Looks like I am in good company. The doctor never said anything about gaining so hopefully a couple of pounds will slide. 10 days to go!

Hi Cota129, My surgery is scheduled on Nov. 7th also. I am getting pretty nervous but excited as well. No liquid diet before but I have not received pre-surgery instructions. I have some questions about what size pills I can take but I don't meet with the surgeon again until the day before my surgery. Good luck to you; I am sure we will do great! It has been great reading everyone's comments. ____________________ Colleen
