Post Op June 2014 Sleevers
motocrash replied to KimGettingSlim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One week today. Very little pain, except when I lie directly on it. I don't really like sleeping on my back, but it works. I tried the couch and that was more comfortable. About 3 AM, while I was out cold, Sammy, my 150 lb St. Bernard decided to get on my chest and sit. That was severe pain, but no damage done. I was 320 at the start of all this 299 at surgery day, and 285 today. Was 285 yesterday too, which is a little discouraging. No problems getting fluids down, or protein. Cannot wait to advance this diet! -

My mom has been the opposite - she has been pushing for this surgery. Every step of the way she calls and asks what is the hold up. I have had other medical issues she never mentions, but this has been her priority. My family is thin. I am the fat son, the embarrassment. Now that I have had the surgery its all about how much are you going to lose and how fast. There is a family reunion in July and she wants to make sure I will look good in the photos. She is so draining, that I simply avoid talking to her. -

Well I was sleeved the 17th and I am now home. I was in intense pain just after surgery and was on a morphine pump overnight. I stopped hitting the button about midnight, and have now only been using liquid Tylenol. I could not wait to get home! Not drinking as much as I should yet, but peeing all the time. all that IV fluid. I am trying to be aware of my fluids, and starting to push for more. -
Hi experts- Here is my question - how fast can you drink Water? I was out for a motorcycle ride, and it sure is nice. I am sweating up a storm. I stop frequently for a drink to stay hydrated. How will this work after sleeve? I realize that there is no gulping, guzzling, chugging, but how long to drink a 12 oz water? Can I drink faster that I can loose it? I sweat lots on the bike, and it is not really ideal to drink while riding. Some do use camelback bladders, but with a no straw rule I don't know that I can do that either. I do long rides, and don't know that I can afford to take 30 min stops every hour. How long does it take to "sip" an entire bottle of water once you are a healed up sleeve back in your normal life?

Drink to prevent dehydration

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. I just do yard work, or get in and out of a hot car, and sweat like crazy. Presently it is pretty easy to keep up with that loss. After I just need to be aware of it and plan to always have a liquid with me. -
Thanks for the reply. I just left a message with the office hoping to get an answer as to which diet I should be on. One sheet says: only CLEAR liquids day before surgery. Another says liquids day before, including Protein shakes. A third sheet says nothing by mouth after midnight (food or beverages), but the next line says clear liquids are ok up to 2 hours before surgery.

I have never been one to be overly anxious, but I am at the point of not being able to function! Had my preadmission testing Wednesday, and my surgery is scheduled for June 17th. The countdown is making it real. I have had surgeries before and not had this kind of anxiety. My issues that are contributing: The hospital (UMASS) just underwent layoffs. I am in the healthcare field, and I know how this can cause problems behind the scenes. I moved my surgery date already so that it would be in a couple weeks, to give some more time for the hospital to get it's act together. My pre-classes went over the diet a lot, including handouts. It specifically states that I am to be on Clear liquids the day before. The pretesting RN says no, it is full liquids, including the Protein drinks. I showed them the conflicting paperwork, and nobody can seem to get the answer straight. At this point I am just planning on doing clears to not mess up my surgery, but they have done so many of these, how can the paperwork have inconsistencies? So what did other people have for the day before diet?
