A place for bandsters in their 60's
CAROL99 replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Indio, Very very good information!! The 40% failure on the band I assumed was a malfunction, purferation (sp) but I think you are right....it all boils down to what a person is putting in their mouth whether they loss fast, slow or not at all. I would choose the band because I do not want to stay in the hospital. I spent 15 days in when they did the back surgery...what scared me was the bozo dr wanted to ship me off to a nursing home because in his words, 'I've done all that I can!' and he sure did, he would not own up to botching the surgery...he botched 4 in a 6 week period that I could find....he was supposed to move the muscle away from the spine while he put the screws in....he did not. I did not sue, I just asked a professor/dr. at the University in our state to contact him and tell him what he was doing wrong so this wouldn't happen to anyone else. -

Hi Phyl, thank you for the great web site....I found two dr.s about 70 miles from here that are EXCELLENT .... I will attend the meeting at our local hospital next week to see what they have to say ....then I will contact the other dr.s. I found a protein drink today at our local Festival Foods grocery store. It's called Genuine MUSCLE MILK, 17oz. carton, 32g. protein, 330 calories....I drank the banana creme and I like it very much....I guess I won't be able to drink the entire 17 oz. after I am banded so the carton will be 4 servings. Price: $2.99. Do you think this is a good protein drink?? it has 14g. carbs and 7g. sugar Carol -

Hello Jennifer, Hmmm, not a very appitizing subject at your meeting!...but a necessary one I'm sure. I just joined and am bothering Phyl for answers...sorry Phyl.... I love recipes....bring 'em on.....either here or the recipe thread...just let me know were to find them. Phyl, I am researching the 'center of Excellence'....found them in southern WI.....I will try to find info on this dr. I'm intersted in. I copied your reply and will 'try very hard' to follow your diet. When you say 'protein powder' are you saying whey or soy? Could you give me the name of the product? We don't have Costco's up here....we have WalMart....? I have no desire to stay overnight in a hospital.....not since my 15 day stay after my back surgery.....I swore I'd never be in a hospital again....oh well, never say never! Thank you for posting, Carol -

Good Morning Phyl, Hmmm, I would then have to lose 30#.... How did you lose your weight? Is this to help the liver? Did you go to a bariatric clinic or a regular surgeon at a hospital approved to do lap bands? I've heard good reports about these two surgeons, father and daughter team, but after my back surgery at another hospital in town I am a bit skeptical about all the doctors here. May only other option is to go about 70 miles and see a dr. that is advertised as a bariatrics dr....I think I will probably stay here...it's more convenient.... I have been trying the different drinks I read about for post op....not too bad. What was your favorites? Carol -

Hello all mature youngsters,

I am going for a consult at a local hospital on Oct. 19....the dr. is a regular surgeon.....but the hospital is approved by Medicare....so I guess I'll start there.

I am 58 years young, disabled since I was 45.

I did a 'REAL AGE' questionaire and they said I was 76...so I will hang with you if thats ok..?

I am about 300#....5'6&. I go to the hospital gym about 8 days a MONTH!!! What a slacker I am!! I was thinking all along how good I was doing by going to the gym until last week when I requested a history printout to take with me to my consult.....I have been walking on a treadmill since june of 06...averaged to 8 days a month!! That is not acceptable....I must try harder!

I had back surgery in 1995 on disc L3,L4,L5 and S1.. waist to end of back. Doc put a non-removable screw through L5 and into the L4 NERVE that runs the inside of the right leg!!

The bozo! I had to goto another hospital to find out this fact. Ok, from this consant neverending pain my body gave me Fibromyalgia to take my mind off of my back.

Now I hurt from head to toe!!! NUTZ!

I believe I went on a pitty party for many years...I have no vices other than eating so I ate and I ate and I ate. POOR ME@

That would be the update of my last 12 years.

I would like to take this time to tell GayleTX that I copied her tale and it is an inspiration to me. Thank YOU!!!

I would love to be able to just get out of my chair without thinking a forklift would be nice.

I saw my gp on Sept. 7...after trying Thyroid Meds.(not fat from thyroid problem), and being diagnosed with Sleep Apnea (which I cannot get a CPAP from Medicare because the in hospital sleep test was horrendous and I only 'slept' for two hours....but an in home apnea test proved I have apnea but no medical supply I went to would submit my dr. perscription to Medicare because Medicare needs 5+apnea events to qualify in the HOSPITAL setting_)....I'm sick of trying to get a CPAP and asked the gp if I should try LapBand.....absolutely she said....I rambled a while longer giving her a chance to change her mind but when I ended my ramble and asked again if she thought I should try a LapBand she responded, absolutely....

I try not to go to dr. since my back screw up but of course it's inevitable. Her nurse got the appt before I left their office!!! Since then I've been reading everything I can find on the procedure. I really like this site but find it's very confusing trying to find my way back to certain areas of interest such as this thread...took me all morning....and a nap to refresh me before I found you again....Is there some easy way of getting here?

Ok enough rambling.....sorry.

Carol<img src="http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/kiss2.gif" border="0" alt="" ti -
