Today is day four post-op for me and I suddenly found myself hungry. It scared me at first but I realized as my family was eating dinner in the kitchen that it wasn't because I was 'hungry' but because I had not sat down to a meal and chewed food in almost two weeks. It was completely mental. I realized that it's like when you take something away and say you can never have it again and suddenly I want it even more. It was happening to me right then and there. A couple of sips of water later I was 'full'. It's incredible the number of times food comes up via conversation, on tv, etc. that make me 'hungry' all of the sudden when I'm not hungry at all. The mental want and need to chew and taste is overwhelming and will take time for me to cope with. I'm trying sugar free gum ASAP. Anyone else find this happening to them?

Advil upsets the stomach lining so this is sulu reprising to hear. I was told not to take that, aspirin or ibuprofen at all prior to f after the surgery. Tylenol only. And the walking helped more than any pain medication.

One week from the next chapter of my life

Congratulations on this decision!! Do NOT be afraid or worry. You are going to be just fine. The absolute best advice I was given was WALK, WALK, WALK as soon as you are able post surgery. I am four days post op and my pain and soreness is very minimal and am only taking pain Meds right before bed to help me sleep (not a back sleeper). Within an hour of being awake, my sister who is an ER nurse had me walking around the room. Every hour after that it's go a little further. The first night, as sore and tired as I was, I was walking down the hall of the hospital wing. Slowly but surely. The next day it was remarkable how much easier it was to walk. I was still sore but I was walking further and further. Day three, first day home, I was walking two houses down the street. Still very slow but it's done wonders for pain management. Hope that helps!!!! Good luck and God bless! -
This app seems to be a great resource for those of us who have taken the step towards a healthier life via bariatric surgery. I'd love to learn from and meet others in the Jackson, MS area that are on this same path to help guide me through what is yet to come. I am also curious as to advice from other guys that have taken this step but any and all help is most welcome!! I am 31 years old and have spent my whole life as a rather large guy. I'm the only overweight person in my family and after two years of preparing, dieting, exercising, studying, etc., I am two days post-op. I am very excited and want to learn and discuss advice on expectations, exercise and eating habits. I had my surgery performed by Dr. Vick at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS and have had an excellent experience thus far. However, I would like to know what to expect one week, three weeks, three months down the road. I look forward to all of your input and am glad to be traveling this road with you all!!
