Add me to the list, my surgery is December 5th!:biggrin1:
-
I sooo totally understand where you are all coming from. Before I was a nurse, I worked at an ambulance service, where it was mainly guys. Then I became a nurse and had to work with all women. Wow, what a change!! Women are so nitpicky, gossipy, and always in your business. I can't stand it sometimes. The clique in the ICU was really bad when I went to work there, but it has gotten much better over the last few years. Once you figure out who the main offenders are, you can figure out how to deal with them. I swear it's like being in high school again sometimes though!

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Dee, I am sooo sorry this has happened to you. I felt exactly the same way after my surgery got cancelled the first time. I cried for 2 days straight, was depressed, then I was just flat out pissed off. (Still am pissed off at my hospital for that matter.) I was also discouraged and thought that maybe it just wasn't for me. After about a week of being so depressed and mad, I decided I had to get over it (even though I still had doubts, still do on some days) and that is when I called Dr.K. I completely understand your frustrations with your schedule. I would feel bad also that everyone rearranged their schedules and then it didn't happen. I also had them put me back on the schedule when my first surgery was cancelled. It actually made me feel better to go back to work. Something about taking care of patients makes me feel better, because then I focus on them instead of sitting around moping about my situation (which is what I was doing). And it always reminds me when I'm at work that things could be much worse for me-I might be fat but at least I'm relatively healthy compared to my patients. Work always gives me a little slap in the face and reminds me that things could be sooooo much worse....not that I don't feel bad for my patients, it's just one heck of a reality check. Anyway, keep your chin up. Things have a way of working out. You are a great person and I believe in good kharma. Hey, maybe we can all get together Tuesday night at RR? Hint, hint everyone?? We need to cheer Dee up!! -
Crazycat, That's just all wrong about your cat!! I once had a male cat that used to try to um, mate with my head, complete with biting me on the neck and everything! It was usually when I was sleeping, and I would wake up with this cat on my head! NOT a good way to wake up!

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Part Two Dr. Kirshenbaum

I'm sorry your fill went bad. It sounds like Natalie could have ended up needing a cast also! Then we would kind of be twins! I broke a metatarsal bone....again....I do this about every 5 years on the dot (no joke), always at the same time of year and everything. It's almost getting to be comical. I was really bummed because while I was waiting for my cast to dry, I discovered they now have glow in the dark cast material. How cool would that be? Although if I had any elderly, confused patients this weekend at work, they might be confused about why my foot was glowing when I walked into their room to assess them! Anyway, I'm just really trying to keep a sense of humor about it at this point. As I said, it was really easy packing, because I only had to pack right shoes! Saved alot of room in my suitcase! -
I love animals also if you didn't notice!! People think I'm crazy for having so many, but they add so much joy and humor to my life. I love how your dog lays in the pillowcase on the pillow! I can't imagine having a dog small enough to lose in the house...right now my husband and I barely have any room in our queen size bed because we have 3 of the 4 labs sleeping with us. (And you know, it's THEIR bed, not ours, at least that's what they seem to think!) I love that you have a tortoise with a diaper also! And him banging his dish against the cage! Too cute! It reminds me of going to my moms house-she has a equal amount of dogs and cats, but also has a parrot and a cockatoo. The cockatoos name is Screech (you can guess why), and I am his favorite person in the world, so he throws a FIT until I either go in to talk to him or they bring him out to me. Then if you don't go to see him fast enough, he will say over and over "I love you" in an increasingly sweet voice. What a funny bird! He says all kinds of stuff that I can understand but my mom can't. I'll be like "Mom, he just said....." and she can't understand why I can understand him and she can't. I chalk it up to being a nurse and having to communicate with patients that have had strokes and lots of foreign doctors with accents. That's the only reason I can figure!:biggrin1:

Dee, Good luck with your upcoming surgery. I am bummed you have to do the preop diet for 4 more days also. I could help you out Tuesday night if you don't have anyone to help you. I get into Denver Monday night, have Tuesday free other than my appt with Dr.K, then my surgery is Wednesday. So my Tuesday is pretty much open if you need anything. PM me if you want and I'll give you my cell phone number. Thanks for everyone worrying about me, but I'll be fine. I've had this foot casted 3 times before-I'm an old pro at it by now. It is a walking cast and they are even letting me work with it on this time because I get around in it great. (Actually, I think they're just really short staffed so they are breaking the rules...many of you know how that goes since you are nurses!) I have transportation from the airport arranged, and after that, I figured I'd see what my options are for getting around. Dee, think about my offer. I was just going to go shopping that day and spend lots of money that I shouldn't! -
Textbook Capricorn, and for Tifferoni, I am also a textbook Ox!!

TOO funny!!!:biggrin1: -
Well, let's see-I seem to be a magnet for "special needs" pets. We have Jake, who is a 3 year old lab who was abused as a puppy and has severe separation anxiety. The dog can bark nonstop for 12 hours straight without getting tired or losing his voice. Of course I learned this from the next door neighbor after I worked a 12 hour shift all night. Then there is Bailey, my oldest lab, who since he was a puppy forces himself head first through everyones legs so they will scratch his butt. He then proceeds to "march" with his hind legs while his butt is being scratched. Reilly, my other 3 year old lab likes to jump about 5 or 6 feet straight in the air off the ground when he is happy. He also loves to do it for the camera. My 7 year old female lab has obsessive compulsive disorder and licks her paws until she is panting. I have a cat named Crooked because his head is crooked and he walks in circles-he was that way when I found him. I have another cat named Gimp who is polydactyl (extra toes). He looks like he has little thumbs on each of his front paws and holds things with his paws like they are hands. And he is not a gimp at all-he's the most agile cat ever!! And last but not least, I found my cat Isabella a few winters ago, no one claimed her, and she ended up being pregnant. All her kittens went to nurses that I work with, and they have all ended up being rather interesting. One is particularly crazy and does all kinds of wierd things, but he got his head stuck in a mason jar after he went to his new home (and seemed normal when he still lived with me), so I blame it on brain damage from lack of air. As for momma cat, I can't get anyone to adopt her because she slobbers worse than all my labs combined!! There is never a dull moment in my house!:biggrin1:

Be Honest....

I HAVE done the ER routine, they have no clue what to do. As for the environment... have you ever worked in a hospital? They are so full of virus/bacteria it is unbelievable. There was a study done a few years ago about patients entering an ICU. Within 20 minutes they could measure the effect of the bacteria as the patients were building antibodies within that time frame just from the new stuff they were exposed to. If you can fine a link to that study, I would be interested in reading it. Yikes! Us ICU nurses must have super duper ninja antibodies built up!! -
Don't know what to eat
munchkin392 replied to bcarter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Love, love, love the Hormel Turkey Chili, I've been eating that forever. I'm being banded next week and I'm on a high protein/low carb diet, so I've been eating alot of Hormel Turkey Chili and string cheese!! (Maybe I won't love it so much after eating is so much...) -
Hello everyone, I was just wondering if there are any scrapbookers on here, and specifically, if any of you have done a scrapbook about your lap band journey? Thanks!:biggrin1:
-
Thanks for all the replies. Do any of you seasoned scrapbookers recommend any books for new scrapbookers? I have never done one, but I really want to start. I love all the papers and I figured it would give me something to do besides eat. And what better to start with than my surgery? Sooo.....if anyone has any tips feel free to respond or PM me.

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Part Two Dr. Kirshenbaum

So I thought you guys would get a chuckle out of this one...they casted my left foot today with a walking cast. So I'll be gimping to Denver with one leg casted for my surgery! I told my husband, on the bright side of things, at least I only have to pack one shoe so it will save luggage space! -

Dee, I'm so sorry you didn't get your surgery today. I'm glad they got it rescheduled for Monday. That stinks that they want you to pay up front for your 23 hour observation though. Seriously, they can't bill you? Good luck on the 2nd go around! -
Waahaahaa!!!!!!! I'll tell them it's my tracking device for the mother ship as I wear my tin foil hat!!

I personally had a hard time believing that one woman lost 530 pounds without WLS. What does everyone else think?

Sorry Dee, I thought your big day was today, apparently I'm a day off! (I hurt my back at work over the weekend and I am looped up on pain meds...that's my story and I'm stickin to it...) Anyway, good luck. We'll all be thinking of you!! -
Pre-op diet and MURDER - I need a straightjacket!
munchkin392 replied to divaofsongs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
While I can sympathize as I am doing my Dr.K preop diet also, it is not nearly as bad as the sucky clear liquid diet that I was on for my originally scheduled surgery here at home. I felt just like you when I was on that diet- I wanted to GNAW my leg off I was so hungry. My husband also wanted to kill me, and I don't think my coworkers were too thrilled with me either. I am a nurse, so there is ALWAYS a bunch of crap food lying around at work. Food that patients bring us, food that coworkers bake and bring in, you name it. No shortage of junk food, which made it all that much more difficult to follow the diet. So far I have found this diet much more tolerable only because I do actually get to eat REAL food, and not a bunch of chicken broth! Hang in there! We will get through this together! (Now only if I can quit craving cheesecake...):tired -
I'm so sorry to hear about this. My grandfather is currently in the hospital after being septic for a second time in two months with Cdiff. Her doctors office should have known better though-they should have at the very least instructed her husband to take her to the ER. And dark tarry stools should have definantly set off a warning bell to the surgeons staff! That usually means a gastrointestinal bleed of some kind. I'm really beginning to wonder what is wrong with some of these doctors and their staff. Does no one have any common sense anymore?

Just wanted to say hello and that I hoped everyone had a happy turkey day! My surgery is coming up fast-next Wednesday. I'm starting to get butterflies in my tummy! I'm really looking forward to coming to Denver, it sounds great there!! Still no takers on RR for Tuesday the 4th?? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Ok, I need to go to be now, I'm getting slap happy!:biggrin1: -
I'm glad everything turned out ok. We're happy to have you in the Merry Losers! (I was also supposed to be a November surgery that got pushed back...welcome!)
