LOL! I think all of us RNs are distrustrustful and suspicious of the healthcare system! That makes you SANE!!!

I just wanted to chime in that I have crate trained all four of my labs, which range from 4-8 years old. Even in their adulthood they still love their crates. They will crawl in their "house" on their own when they want to sleep or have some alone time. They view it as a safe place to this day, even the 8 year old lab. Good luck!

OMG, is anyone watching tonights Intervention about the meth addict? No wonder this girl is an addict, her family is a bunch of judgemental hypocrites!!

Ok, so I have an extremely bad case of plantar facsiitis in my left foot that will not respond to treatment. I just had a CAST on for a month, and that did not even help. I have tried cortisone injections, excercises, night splints, you name it. My foot is still killing me after getting my cast removed. I am trying to avoid surgery, so I am going to have orthotics made, which is about the only thing I haven't tried. I am getting extremely frustrated because I can hardly work out because it hurts my foot. (Granted, I have lost 20 pounds since surgery on December 5th with a cast on my foot, but still...that was probably from lugging the cast around with me!!) I was hoping losing that weight would help also, but to no avail. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks for listening, I needed to vent about this!

That is what I thought also. He sat and told his daughter that being gay is such a sin...blah, blah, blah. What about adultery? Apparently that doesn't cound in his book of sins.

Well, I am going to get the ultrasound treatments, so we will see how that goes. Jack, the orthopedic doctor wrote the prescription for "longitudal arch supports" so I am assuming it will be a hard, custom made orthotic? I went to the Good Feet store a few months ago, and they had one that felt really good-it had a really high arch and took the pressure off my heel. (I think my high arches are part of the problem.) But the Good Feet store wants you to buy a set of 3 different insoles- a firm, medium, and soft one so to speak. And they advise you switch them out throughout the day, going from the hard one progressively down to the softest one. Like I have time for that!! I thought about just buying the one I liked, but it was still over $200, so I figured I would get them professionally made so my insurance can pay for it!

Yep, that's the one. I didn't want to give away too many spoilers since I was watching it while I was posting. I couldn't believe her family's attitude about her being a lesbian!! They were just so horrendously judgemental and mean when they said things to her about it! I also found it ironic that her dad had an affair, but apparently that is not a sin like being a lesbian is. Like I said, with those family dynamics, no wonder the chick is an addict. As for the ending, she went to rehab, started working out in the gym again, and said she was thinking about a comeback in sports. It said she had been sober since October 2007.

Well, I went to the ortho doc again today. I am going to do PT three times a week and get professional orthotics made. I am still going to try chiro and acupuncture also. Jack, any good tips on the orthotics? Thank God my doc did not want to do surgery. He had mentioned that in the past and I am really not on board for that. Whew!!

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Oh! I almost forgot to tell you gals, I had my first NSV the other night when I floated to SICU at the other hospital. One of the nurses that hadn't seen me in awhile walked into the unit and said "Oh my God, you have lost so much weight!" Hey, I've only lost 20 pounds, but it sure did make me feel good that people that don't know I was banded have started to notice!:tt1: -

Lap, I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to go see REM at Red Rocks!! Me and a coworker go see Dave Matthews every summer, and we were talking about going to Colorado this year to see him too! Let me know details...REM was the soundtrack of my teen years....I still can't hear "It's the End of the World As We Know It" without dancing...wow, that brings back memories. Green is one of my all time favorite albums, not a bad song on it. And Nightswimming is one of my favorite songs. Coldplay was just on Austin City Limits and performed Nightswimming with Michael Stipe and it was awesome...I have been trying to find the DVD somewhere but there doesn't seem to be one. Mal, Before I was a nurse, I was an EMT and Emergency Medical Dispatcher. One night, a wife of one of the paramedics I worked with called me requesting an ambulance. In the background, this big, tough paramedic was literally crying and screaming like a baby. You guessed it...he had a kidney stone. So after hearing him cry like he did, I can pretty much guess how painful it must be. I had a painful gallbladder attack and I know a kidney stone is about 200 times more painful, so you have my sympathies! I am glad you are feeling better and I hope you never have to go through that again! Dee, Tomorrow is the BIG DAY!! YOU GO GIRL!!!!! I think I speak for everyone when I say we all love you, will be thinking of you, and will be sending healthy wishes your way! Let us know as soon as you feel up to it how things went!! Other than that, I don't know much. I had my second fill last week, and finally feel some restriction. I had lost 3 pounds between Tues and Sat when I weighed myself at work. Also, for any of you that followed my drama with my initially scheduled surgery at my hospital, I got the chance to confront my original surgeon the other morning about her lack of action regarding what happened. I was very professional, I was not on the clock, I was on my way out of the hospital. But it was very cathartic to nicely tell her I think she sucks!! She snidely told me "Well, I'm glad you got your surgery done but good luck finding someone to do your fills now." I just sweetly smiled and told her "No problems there, your former partner was more than willing to take me as a patient and was very interested in hearing my story about what happened." Her self satisfied smile went away then!! (My fill doctor left their practice on bad terms, partially because she is such a beotch!!) I was a bit of a drama queen this weekend, but she had it coming! The whole staff in Surgical ICU was laughing because when this surgeon saw I was there in the unit, she practically RAN out of the unit. She couldn't leave fast enough. But I chased her down...evil of me, yes. Did she deserve it? Absolutely. Do I feel better about the whole thing now? A little bit... -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Part Two Dr. Kirshenbaum

Yes, Dee is right...Dr.K knew I was coming alone because I could not afford to fly my husband out with me. Dee, being the very sweet person she is, stepped up and gave me a ride back to the hotel. And she took very good care of me! They did make me sign a paper with who was picking me up, so I'm not sure what I would have done had Dee not come to get me. Speaking of.....Dee, your surgery is in TWO DAYS!!!!! How excited are you? I am very excited. I so hope everything goes as planned. It sounds like everything is going as planned so far...I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed! Expect a good luck phone call from Illinois! If you see a funny number on your caller ID, it's just me! -
Skinny- I have already tried tennis balls, golf balls, my dogs rubber balls that they play with, a rolling pin, a pop bottle...you name it! Thanks for everyones suggestions. I found a chiropractor here that does chiropractic medicine and acupuncture, so I am going to make an appointment with her. We'll see how it goes! I am a nurse and I have had patients tell me very good things about having acupuncture for back pain, so I am very willing to give it a try. (By the way, the strange thing is, I had this about 5 years ago. I got one cortisone injection and wore a night splint for a month, and BAM! No further pain until now...)

Bert, I am about 7 weeks out from surgery, and I noticed that my hair had become much more coarse than normal and was slightly falling out. (I normally have very fine, soft hair. I have never had to use conditioner on my hair even.) Anyway, I asked my hairdresser who has been cutting my hair for 16 years about it, and she said that the anesthesia comes out of your hair follicles after surgery, hence the change in texture. As for the protein, she told me absolutely NOT to use Nioxin shampoo, as that only blows up the cuticle of your hair. She told me to get protein rich shampoo. She recommended Joico KPak shampoo and reconstructor. It has worked great. My hair is soft, silky, and not falling out as much. All of the Joico products have a high amount of protein in them, so you should be able to find a different one if you don't like the KPak. They are fairly reasonable for salon shampoos also. I got mine at Trade Secret, but I looked on the internet and found reasonable prices also. They also have it at alot of the chain salons. I started taking Biotin also, but I just started the other day, so it's too soon to tell if that is helping. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I was also shocked to see this. He seemed like a very genuine person when I saw him on TV in interviews. How sad for his daughter...:frown: I lost my dad at the same age, so I feel for her.

Jack, They do have a non-treadmill stress test for those that are not able to handle the treadmill. It is a pharmacological stress test. So I don't see any reason they couldn't do that? I think this poor guy just needs to see a different surgeon...

I need info on Dr. K!!!!!
munchkin392 replied to BellaPerdente's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
You can't go wrong with Dr.K. His staff is very attentive, and he is a great surgeon. I just went for my first fill, and my fill surgeon was impressed with his work and my incisions. I am an ICU nurse, and therefore picky about doctors, and I could have been banded at my own hospital, however, the program here is new (among other problems I had). I made the decision to go with Dr.K based on the number of bands he has done and the comments I read on here. I have never felt for one minute I made the wrong decision to have him do my surgery. The surgery center I had my surgery at was beautiful, modern, and also had very attentive staff. -
Anyone having trouble sleeping since surgery?
munchkin392 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so I'm a third shifter, I work 7pm-7am 3 days per week, so my sleep schedule isn't the greatest to begin with. BUT, prior to having surgery, I did have myself on a somewhat normal sleeping schedule. Now, it seems like ever since I had surgery, I just CANNOT sleep at night on my days off. It is driving me crazy!!! It is really interfering with my life on my days off, because I finally get tired at about 7am and end up sleeping half the day. Has anyone else experienced this? I already take something to help me sleep, and it hasn't worked since my surgery. ??????? I'm perplexed. -
I was just asking my hairdresser about this, and she recommended any conditioner with lots of protein in it. She was going to pick me up one made by Joico that she said works great, but I can't remember the name of it right now. I'll repost when I get it from her and let you know how it works.

My leg cast weighs 2-3 pounds depending on what scale I weigh myself on. Hope that helps.

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
munchkin392 replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dee, I think all nurses lose their heads at work, it's kind of like a job requirement. Rembember the cute little kid in the movie Jerry Maguire that was always talking about how the human head weighs 8 pounds? He was adorable-he made that movie for me. See my above bummer post about my doggy. But is Shawn divorces me (or if I divorce him which will probably be more likely) I will definantly think about relocating! That will be one long drive with 4 hyper labs though! Suspenders, what are those? Whah ha ha, just kidding! I would be interested (if I can afford it) in flying out to do the Susan G. Koman walk with you guys! My mother is also a breast cancer survivor, she got is premenopausal at the age of 45. I have been getting yearly mammograms since I was 30. Anyway, let me know when it is and I will see if I can arrange for some time off and check on plane tickets. I think that would be awesome for us to all get a group together and do that! -

Mal-I'm with Woofay...I almost peed my pants when I read that post about your running down the hall with your pants around your ankles! But then when Anita added the basset hound to the mix....LOL!! I sadly did not get my puppy, and now I am mad at the humane society. My best friend and I went there last week to get him. He wasn't back in the "general population" of adoptable dogs. We asked a girl at the desk if he was in the isolation room being treated for something...she had not clue, took no ititiative to even check, just told me he was adoped out. Well, he was there today, and I got soooo excited when I saw him. Then I found out that he had been there the whole time, even last week when we were there, in isolation as we suspected, and now he has been adopted out to some people from Wisconsin. So I was really bummed, because if it hadn't been for that dimwit at the desk last week I could have paid for him and waited for him to be ready to be taken home. He was hysterical-typical Jack Russell, LITERALLY bouncing off the walls. I thought he was going to give himself a head injury! And of course he liked me, which made it all that much worse. He was adorable-all white except for tan on his ears, tail, and a little tan ring around his eye. And yes, I did look at the puppy thread. So cute. On the other end of the spectrum, they had a HUGE Turner & Hooch mastiff there. He was great. He had an adoption pending or I would have taken him. I would definantly be getting divorced if I come home with a mastiff! One of these days I will post my motivation jeans pics....I got a virus on my computer and I need to reload all my camera software. I have tons of pics to download from a coworkers wedding too. Maybe next week on my day off! Hope you guys all had a great time at RR tonight! Wish I could have been there to meet you all in person! You all need to kick me in the butt...I have been fighting with my husband and subsequently eating horrible. Not as horribly as in the past, but still not good. Give me a swift kick in the pants ladies!! -

Woofay- You rock woman!! Congrats on the NSV! And just FYI, I don't think their stuff runs that big, so take the compliment! :biggrin1: I just bought my first pair of jeans in 10 years from AE Outfitters ...they won't fit me yet but I'm going to hang them right on my closet door to remind me that I need to get my butt in gear when I get my cast off next week! Motivation clothing!!!! They are super cute wide leg jeans. I can't wait to get my cast off so I can work out instead of sitting on the computer and shopping!! Hee hee! Oh, and by the way...across the river is only about 10 to 15 minutes away, so I really don't have any excuse for not going to a gym in Iowa other than the bridge rush hour traffic (which I could easily avoid). I'm really just a slacker! Dee- They still have the picture of my little puppy on the humane society website...I'm going to take my chances and drive over there tomorrow on the off chance that the guy that answered the phone didn't know what he was talking about. They have another Jack Russel also, but he's not as cute... My husband doesn't know about this yet so I may be headed for divorce (which might be ok at this point as I am not too happy with him lately...) Wish me luck with my puppy endeavor!! -

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY MICHELLE!! Sorry I missed it, I haven't been online in a bit. Hope you had a great birthday! LA- great pic of you and Miss Mona!! Lap-isn't it great when people think you're younger than you are? I hated it when I was younger, and back then my mom said I would appreciate it, and I didn't believe her. Now when people tell me they think I am only 23 or 24 I love it! Once a patient asked me "Are you even old enough to be a nurse?" I think I was 30 when they said that! Woofay-what's up with you? How's life treating you? Hope everyone is healthy and happy! -

This post made me chuckle because of my experience. I was at work a few weeks ago (I am a nurse), and one of the cardiologists that we work with all the time saw me for the first time since I had been back from surgery. He actually looked me up and down-visibly. I told him "It's only been 3 weeks, no, I'm not skinny yet!" I couldn't believe I actually had to explain this to a DOCTOR.
