    Meat?

I'm 6 weeks out and I can eat baked fish, boiled chicken, hamburger so long as it's tender and juicy like in spaghetti sauce or chili, and deli turkey; those are the meats I've tried so far anyway. My sister had RNY in 2006 and pretty much eats what meat she wants, just small portions.
  5. I'm so happy! I've seen 200 pounds for the last time! Yay!!

    Onederland!

    Thank you all!!
  7. I had RNY just over a month ago. I've not had the first regret. I've lost 22 pounds in the last month, it took me from February to September to lose the 20 pounds I lost before surgery. I'm off half of the meds I was on for diabetes and high blood pressure and expecting the rest to go in the next month. Other than needing to go to bed earlier because I get tired, I feel great! Very minimum pain, and that was gas the first two days. Not being hungry is more empowering than I can explain to you. As others have said, being nervous is to be expected. So long as you have done all your research and are sure this is what you want, then I say just relax, and do everything your team tells you to do. I wish you the very best of luck! Carol
  8. My sister had RNY in 2006 and continues to take her vitamins as prescribed. She now gets all her protein from food. She has maintained her weight loss and has had no deficiencies. Her blood tests always comes back in normal ranges and she takes no medications.
  9. and all went very well! With the exception of MAJOR gas pains across my ribs, I'm not having any other pain, and those are almost completely gone. I'm still on Clear liquids and let me tell you, 64oz ounces has been impossible. Yesterday I got in about half that amount and I'm hoping to do a little better with it today...sipping on diluted lite grape juice and I write. My last meal was Sunday night around 7pm and I am still not hungry in the least. I am allowed to try 4ozs of a Protein shake tonight, then slowing add up to 4ozs three times a day. If I can tolerate that, then I will be on full liquids on Monday. Other than walking a little slow, and being a little tired, I feel great! Much better than I expected I would. I'll be glad to answer any questions anyone has about my experience so far. Carol

Honest truth about genepro protein powder

You will be amazed with the Genepro! I love it. I love that I can mix it in hot decaf coffee with no taste or SMELL whatsoever. The whey smell of other Proteins were just so bad to me. I'm slowing using up the other proteins I've purchased then will use only GENEPRO. Best of luck to you, Carol

12 DAYS POST OP NEED HELP

Someone on this post already mentioned GENEPRO Protein but I want to mention it again. I'm one month out, and honesty, I was about to just stop with trying to get any protein because they all made me gag from the smell, the overly sweet taste and the whey flavor. I read where others were talking about Genepro being odorless and tasteless and I really didn't believe it was but decided to waste the money and try it. I'm so glad I did. It's really been a life-save for me. I mix it in everything, even hot decaf coffee. You only have to mix 1 tablespoon to get 30g of protein and it really is tasteless. I bought it off of Amazon after researching it. I hope this helps you. Best of luck, Carol

Protein powder to use in soups...

    I love Genepro Protein too!
  14. carolk36

    Protein

Oh, and the scoops are very small and the powder is very fine, so it's easy to mix with very small portions.

    Protein

Oh bless your heart! I hope everything starts to look up for you soon! I have been using GENEPRO Protein. Some folks were talking about it here, and stated that is was really odorless and tasteless. I decided to try it because the horrible sweet tastes of all the shakes/protein I had been using was about to make me just stop protein altogether. That was the best choice I had every made! I sent the info to my NUT and surgeon since it's a fairly new product and both of them approved it. It truly is completely tasteless. I mix it in everything; decaf coffee, V8, diluted juice, yogurt. It has been a life-saver for me. You can order if from Amazon, which is were I got it or from the company website which is Musclegen Research. Best of luck to you! Carol

    Carbonation?

My NUT and surgeon says that those with the best long term results are those who don't drink anything carbinated because of pouch expansion. So, they jump up and down and tell us to plan on never having it again! I will say this, my sister had gastric bypass in 2005 (same team) and after about 3 years, she started drinking diet sodas in moderation again, and has continued to maintained her 100 pound weight loss. Post-Op regrets?

I'm 21 days post op and I've not had one regret. I find it very empowering not to be hungry. There has not been any foods such as pizza, steak or birthday cake I've been around since my surgery that has bothered me; although I am ready to be done with these Protein shakes! Best of luck to you! Carol

    Very early stall?

I'm 21 days post op and, yep, I've seen the same two numbers for almost a week now. It makes it even more frustrating that that I'm close to hitting 199 and I want to be under 200 SO bad! Hang in there, from everything I've heard and read, it happens, but it's not permanent. Carol
  20. Hello everyone! Tomorrow marks my second week post op and all is well! I'm down 14 pounds and still on full liquids. Once I got a week post op in, drinking 64 oz of fluids has not been a problem. I am still struggling with Protein since all of it (except GENEPRO Protein, so glad I found that!) is so horribly sweet, but most days I do hit 60g. I want to be at 90g so that is my goal for today. All the swelling is gone and the gas was gone in about a week. My incisions are healing very well. I've had no problems so far and for that I am thankful! Not being hungry is an amazing and empowering feeling! I feel like I'm in control for the first time in my adult life when it comes to food. I've cooked most of my family's meals since surgery, and they've had take-out a couple of times and it made no difference to me at all. I was afraid I would feel a little resentful but I actually enjoy watching them eat. They were worried too so I had to convince them that it didn't bother me in the least. I go back to work next Monday so I plan to experiment with pureed foods this weekend so that I have a good plan on what to take with me to make sure I meet all my requirements. I'm open to questions about my experience so far. Here's wishing you all a great day and much success! Carol
  21. Hi! We are pretty similiar. I was at 242 when I started this process and I'm just under 5'3 and also diabetic. Don't be afraid of the surgery. It's the best thing I could have done for myself. Weeks later I am still thrilled! I am in the pureed stage and it's still not bad at all. I was on Victoza injections and was taken off them the day I left the hospital. My sugars have been running between 80-120! That alone makes me so happy I had this surgery but the 20 pounds I I've lost since Sept 2nd is pretty great too. I wish you the best of luck!! Carol

How are all the Sept. people doing?

Hi! Glad to hear you are feeling better! I had surgery on Sept 2nd and I'm doing fine. I've had no complications (so thankful). I agree that walking as soon and as much as possible is the greatest gift you can give yourself after surgery. Today is my first day back at work, and I was a little nervous but so far, so good. I'm down 20 pounds since surgery and feeling great! Best of luck to everyone! Carol
  23. I am allowed yogurt so long as it's low sugar and has no lumps in it (no fruit on the bottom). I like Siggi's. It's thick and creamy like a custard and has 14g of Protein. It was recommended by our support group leader. I can only eat 1/2 a contain at a time so I use if for two meals. Best of luck! Carol
  24. I'm 5'3 and my doctor's goal for me is 150. My personal goal is 130. I think I would be happy anywhere in between. Best of luck to you! Carol
