Dr. John Bagnato - Bagnato Bandits
georgia girl replied to georgia girl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Well guys, my doc cleared me to run on Friday, so of course I ran Friday night, lol. Well, the run went fine but this morning I could barely walk. I guess I will be making another appointment to get x-rays. He said it could be my medial meniscus. I probably twisted it when I stepped in that hole a couple of weeks ago. He did say if it was the meniscus, surgery would probably be the answer. Nip, sorry to hear about your knee. Us and our knee problems....lol. Hope it gets better soon. BTW, you looked AMAZING in the newsletter!! You are our little lapband hero! -

Anyone who said this doesn't hurt=lies!

My surgery wasn't that painful either. My problem was that I got dehydrated because I could hardly drink anything from the swelling. Therefore I had nausea for about 5 days. The soreness from surgery was a piece of cake compared to the constant nausea. -

Since we are on the subject of greek yogurt, I can't believe how much protein is in it. I had a individual container for breakfast this morning and noticed it had 15 gram of protein! It's good to know I can do that for breakfast and get some protein in without having to do a protein shake every morning (too tight to eat 'real' food in the mornings). -
Well, I think the reason he didn't do x-rays is because my knee wasn't bothering me anymore since I had not ran in almost 2 weeks. I didn't feel any pain during his examination and he didn't feel any fluid build-up. He said if it started bothering me again, we would do x-rays. I really wasn't all that impressed with this doctor. During the exam he kinda smarted off at me. He asked me if I noticed any swelling during the time it was hurting and I went on to tell him that I could feel some fluid when I touched a certain spot and he said "that's not what I asked you, I asked you if you could visibly see any swelling". It took me by surprise a little. I'm willing to give anyone a second chance but if he smarts off at me again, I will pick up my things and leave!!

Bonnie~ Congrats on the 25 minutes! That's awesome!! Sugar~ Good for you! I would say that was a total success! Unfortunately, it's back to the RICE program for me. Yet again, I can barely walk today. I felt really good last night but this morning was like night and day in comparison to last night. I'm a little bummed but there's nothing I can do about it. I'm wondering if it is the medial meniscus because it's hurting in the area he told me it would be. I guess I'll make another appointment and get the x-rays.

I think I'm a pretty forgetful person in general. But how in the world could you forget your child is in the car? I tend to forget things that don't matter much, like washing a load of clothes or misplacing my keys or phone, but not something (or someone) that means sooooo much to me. I have a 2 year old and I just can't comprehend it. That poor child! I can't even imagine what that child went through. It's a terrible way to die. It just boils my blood!!! This is why I hate watching the news and reading the newspaper!

Sugar~ I usually try to eat a healthy carb before I run. Today I had some whole grain triscuits. They seem to do pretty well. Sometimes I have a yogurt and sometimes I mix yogurt with a protein cereal (like Kashi) before my runs. That's a tip from a fellow LBT runner. If I don't eat some kind of carb, I run out of fuel pretty quickly. Depending on what time I run, sometimes I just go ahead and eat dinner afterwards or if I run earlier in the day, I'll have a protein shake afterwards (whey protein powder and milk). Serentity and Kathy~ Congrats on the 8 minutes!! Very cool!! I can't imagine that right now.

RestlessMonkey~ There are soooo many stats out there nowadays, it's hard to keep up, lol. I had to do some digging into my paperwork to find out the mortality percentage my doctor quoted. Maybe you were thinking of the death rate for gastric bypass??? Anyway, take care and best of luck to you.

LOL, okay....that makes sense. Is the meat processed, like a real chicken nugget? If so, that would be really good, especially on days I can't handle a lot of meat. Does it go down with no problem for you? -

I just found greek yogurt. I live in a relatively small town too and the Walmart here just started carrying a greek yogurt. I grab them up everytime I go in because there usually isn't very many in stock, lol. I love getting ideas from this thread!! -
RestlessMonkey, I'm not trying to be argumentative, but 1 in 200 sounds awfully high. I was quoted a mortality rate of 0.05%. I recently read an article that stated: Lap band surgery was approved for use in 2001, and gets safer and safer all the time. In fact, the death rate for lap band surgery, which is at a nationwide rate of 3 or fewer deaths in 10,000 surgeries, is even lower than routine surgeries such as hernia repair surgery. Here's the link for that article --> Can The Risks Of Lap Band Surgery Be Life Threatening? Now I'm not saying that statistic is 100% correct either, but it sounds closer to what I was told. I just want BikiniBeachy to have the correct information. It does seem like I read somewhere the risk of infection was 1 in 200.... Okay here's the article about the infection risks, here it is --> What are the risks of Lap Band Surgery? That article also says the nationwide death rate is 3 in 10,000 or fewer. Was anyone else quoted a statistic that high?

No, I had not had dinner yet. I would be starving if I ate that early, lol. I usually know what I'm going to eat in advance though. I tend to eat better if I have a plan and stick to it. -
Creamy Spinach Chicken Salad

Hey Jo Anne! I'm glad you like the recipe. I stock up on the dip too! Before I got good restriction I made sandwiches with it too. I use it A LOT! Let me know how you like the meatloaf. Georgia is a beautiful state. I've never been to Savanna but I've always wanted to vistit. Hope you get approved soon! Good luck! -
Kathy~ That's ridiculous! I hope it gets straightened out sooner than later. Feel free to rant, we'll always be here to listen. I went to the gym and did week 3! I can certainly tell I haven't ran in a while. On the last 3 minute interval run, I had to cut it short. I only ran 1 and 1/2 minutes. I did throw in an extra 1 and 1/2 minutes in at the begining of the cool down though. Hopefully Sunday will be a little easier. I loved it!! Felt good to get back into it again!! So far the knee feels good... Have a great weekend everyone!!

Today: B'fast~ Starbucks mocha frapp Lunch~ 1 small tomato (peeled and sliced) and 1 oz nuts (almonds, macadamia, and cashews) Snack~ 8 thin crisp triscuits Dinner~ 1/2 whole wheat tortilla, 2 tbsp marinara sauce, 2 slices thin deli turkey, roasted red peppers, and 2 tbsp shredded cheese (baked pizza style) Snack~ maybe a protein shake??? -
I really haven't noticed much of change in the tightness of my band during TOM. My band fluctuates some, but for the most part it stays pretty consistent. I think it's pretty common though. I've read many threads where women say they are a lot tighter during that time. Hope you feel better soon girlie!

Hello all! I went to the doctor about my knee today and he cleared me to run!! Whoooo Hooooo! I'm so excited to run tonight!! He thinks it probably happened when I stepped in that hole. He thinks it was a sprain (or strain). He said if it starts hurting again to come back for x-rays. He said if it continues to bother me, it could be the medial meniscus (inside meniscus). So, ya'll keep your fingers crossed that it is healed!! I asked him if I should run outside or on the treadmill and he said it depends. Running outside on pavement is hardly any different from the treadmill. He said some of the newer treadmills are made to give a little, so I'll ask a trainer today which treadmill is best for running. He mentioned running at the high school track too. He said it's made with a certain kind of material that gives a little when you run. I think I'll try the treadmill first, since it's soooo hot right now. Anywho, I'm really excited that I get to run again. I'm going to attempt to try picking back up at week 3. It's been at least 10 days since I have ran, but I'm hoping it won't be that hard to get back into the swing of it.

I'm so glad this thread is ALIVE again! I've been gone pretty much all day and I had a lot to catch up on, lol! Leslie~ I agree with the others, play with your food a little. Maybe try upping the calories some and see what happens. Hang in there. Mia~ Congrats on getting moving! Good for you! I'm going to the doctor about my knee tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed that he gives me the okay to run again. -
Renewed~ Glad to hear that the kiddos might be placed together. I'm praying it works out. Sugar~ If I get the "all clear" to run tomorrow, I'll be right there with you, on week 3! I hope it won't be too hard to get back in the grove of it. I hope your friend is okay. Praying she gets better soon. Leslie~ I know how you feel. Plateauing STINKS! It's so easy to get discourage too. Your body will eventually catch up and start losing again. Waiting is soooo hard though. Hang in there. Bonnie~ My abs are so sore today!! I hula hooped my butt off yesterday and I am feeling it today, lol! I really haven't done much with the yoga....it's a lot harder than I thought it would be. I like the aerobics stuff the best! Kathy~ I didn't know golf burned that many calories. Very cool though. It's great that you have an activity to do that you and your DH like to do. I haven't done any sort of exercise today. I've been gone all day and I'm pooped.
