How did you deal with thoughts of failure?
georgia girl replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
2bthinagn I guess we're in the same boat. I just had my 4th fill Wednesday and I am feeling pretty good restriction right now. I've had to slow wayyyy down on drinking my liquids. I go back on solids tomorrow and I don't think I will be able to eat much. Are you feeling pretty good restriction right now? Everyone is different, but I don't feel full in my actual stomach, I feel really tight in my chest. I think this fill is just what I needed. You are definitely not alone. I hope this is just a phase for both of us. Hope you feel better soon. -
Hi everyone. I've been banded for 3 1/2 months. I've had 3 fills with a total of 5cc in my 10cc band. Here's my problem. I'm having thoughts of being a failure. I started out doing so good, I've lost a lot of weight, but for the past month, the scales haven't moved much. I'm not going to lie and say that I am doing everything perfectly, because I'm not. I do have a little restriction right now but it only seems to last about a week, then I can eat normally again. I've lost the motivation to exercise and I haven't been eating as healthy lately. I seem to be slipping into old habits again. I read all of your stories and your success and I am so inspired by it. My goal is lose all of my excess weight in one year. I don't know how to get past this feeling of failure and how to get motivated again. Did any of you go through a period where you slipped into your old habits? How did you get past it? I feel like a failure right now. The reason I posted here is because I thought maybe some of you have gone through this and could help me. Sorry for the long post, feel free to kick my butt back into shape.

Albany GA bandsters - speak up...

I was thinking of either Ruby Tuesday or Applebees. They both have a pretty good selection to chose from. Ruby Tuesdays offers a lot of low carb foods, if I'm not mistaken, and Applebee's has the weight watchers menu. I'd be happy with either. Let us know about Ruby Tuesdays if you go. -

There's no way we can be perfect all the time. Don't be too hard on yourself, I don't think you did that bad. BTW, I loooove BBQ Pitt, but I haven't been there since being banded. They do have quite a few selections that are pretty healthy. Our lifestyles definitely can't change over night, it's something we will have to work really hard at. Good luck, you're doing really good. -

I had one done a few months before my surgery. I used a sleep study lab in Moultrie, it's a division of the hospital. I have no idea what it would cost. My insurance covered it, do you have any insurance? -
Oh, don't get me started on Sanjaya. I hope there are more rockers. I loved Daughtry and I think they need more like him and less Sanjaya.

Please put me straight on my diet...

I use The Daily Plate calorie tracker too. I agree with everyone else: more protein, less carbs. An average bottle of red wine has over 500 calories in it. IMO, one 4-6 ounce glass a day would probably be okay. And on the days you have a glass of wine, you may want to steer clear of desserts, so you don't comsume too many calories. Good luck and hope this helps. -
I have a cousin who is on Metformin, she has a hard time with it, but she is still taking it. I was curious about this one because my doctor said it was new. It's actos plus metformin, all in one pill.

How did you deal with thoughts of failure?

Denise I got my 4th fill yesterday and I really feel restriction right now, I just hope it stays with me this time. I asked my fill doctor about losing restricion after a few days of each fill, and she said that was normal until I get to my sweet spot. She also told me that once we are at our sweet spot for a long time, that some of the Fluid can evaporate out of the band. So it will have to be topped off every once in a while. She also said the same thing about the band getting looser as we lose fat. HTH -

Mia I am a binge eater too. I'm not going to lie to you, until you get good restriction, it's going to be hard. Since being banded, it's turned more into a night-time snacking problem for me. There has been a time or two that I've binged, since being banded. But the binges were nothing compared to past binges. To be completely honest, I thought that this surgery would "fix" everything and I wouldn't have to work hard. I soon found out that was not the case. Something in the back of my mind was telling me that this would be easy. I knew from researching this surgery, that people said they still have to work hard, but I don't think I could truly believe that until I experienced it first hand. But I'm hoping now that I have some decent restriction, things will get a little easier. It's definitely a lifestyle change and I think eventually we need to face the reason why we turn to food. It's something personal that's different for everyone, but I think it's necessary so we can move past it and get our life back, at least for me anyway. Keeping a positive attitude is going to help you out a lot. So, even if you think it's cheesy, keep on keepin on! lol -

Wow, sometimes I forget how blessed I am. These kids are blessed to have you in their life. It's possible that they've never had anyone spend any quality time with them. It's so sad, but at least they have you now. I'm still craving a little too, so maybe by the time I can eat solids again, the cravings will be gone. -
Hi Ladies, I need some serious help with the girls. I can't find a good bra that will hold them up good. Right now I'm in a size 42 DD. I absolutely hate under-wire bras, they are so uncomfortable. I need a supportive bra that will lift, since the girls have decided to go south. What kind of bra would you recommend?

Darn, I was hoping it was someone I know! LOL Thanks for the bra info. I'm going back to Walmart this weekend to get some more, so I'll check that one out. The Curvation bra that I bought the other day lays flat against my breastbone too. Every other bra I've ever bought sticks out, so it's great to have one that actually fits properly. -
Losing weight.......and friends
georgia girl replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes Carol, this place is full of people who truly support us. I'm sorry that your mom and sister aren't being supportive to you. This is a wonderful place for support but it helps if your family and friends support you too. ((HUGS)) -
Losing weight.......and friends
georgia girl replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think she was more like friend "A". I truly don't think she even realized that she was bragging so much. When she saw the interview with her mom, she just cried and you could tell she really loved her mom and was sorry that she hurt her. I keep my immediate family and a few friends up to date on my progress, but they usually ask. Everyone has been so supportive of me, and I would just hate for this experience to "go to my head" and hurt their feelings. I understand both sides of this and after seeing the show, I'll be more aware of it, so it doesn't happen to me. -
Oh, I forgot to mention that these 2 medicines should help with weight loss too. I guess that's something to be grateful for.

FYI: I finally found a protein powder I LOVE!!!
georgia girl replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This seems like it would be really good for a low carb diet too. And 60g of protein is unbelievable! Thanks for posting, I've been having a hard time getting my protein in (I'm not a huge meat fan). I still eat meat, just not much of it. My hair has been falling out too, so maybe this would help. -
Okay girls, I got a call from my Endo's office yesterday and it seems my DHEA levels are too low. Have any of you had this problem? I did some research and I found several documents that said people with PCOS usually have an elevated level. I thought that was a little strange. Apparently the DHEA hormone is the "mother of all hormones". I've read that it can affect a lot of things like chronic fatigue, difficulty losing weight (as if the PCOS alone wasn't enough), mood swings (ditto on former statement), Atherosclerosis, low sex drive, arthritis, etc. She wants me to start taking a DHEA vitamin daily and she put me on Actos Metformin. Have any of you used these and has it helped you?

I just had my 4th fill today. I now have 6ccs in my 10 cc band. I definitely feel restriction now. I'm having to drink a lot slower than normal. Hopefully this one did the trick! I just hope it last longer than a week this time. lol

Let's see..........I love to sing. I sing at local events, weddings, and at church. I also like to paint, mostly contemporary trees. I love Natasha Westcoats' work. I've painted a couple that have been inspired by her. I love music too, and I listen to all kinds of music. Everything from Natasha Bedingfield to Akon to Hinder. My favorite song (right now) is "Better than Me" by Hinder, I love it!!! I've been married now for 8 years and I have a son that's almost 2 years old. I guess that's pretty much it for now!

I have the same problem. If I buy pants from there, I have to get petite. It's funny because when I was thin, I never had to buy petite. Hopefully after losing all this weight, I won't have to buy petite anymore. Interesting............you know, Moultrie isn't all that big.....it's possible I might know him. Where are you from? -
Albany GA bandsters - speak up...

Jeannie- I'm so glad I am feeling some restriction. I'm really having to sip my liquids right now. I'm sure it will relax some in a few days. I like being tight, I don't always make the best food choices and this way if I eat something bad, at least I'll only be able to eat a little. lol Mia- Congrats on the weight loss, you're doing great! Maybe I can ease your mind a little on the fills. I had a talk with Elizabeth today and expressed my concerns about not hitting my sweet spot yet. She seems to think we are very close. She was telling me about a doctor from Australia (he is one of the best lapband surgeons in the world). He has had the lapband for over 8 years, which is longer than it has been legal here. He said that once you hit your sweet spot, you won't need another fill for probably 6-8 months or even longer for some. I was relieved to hear that. Apparently, over time, some of the Fluid can evaporate from the band and you'll have to have it topped off now and again. Hopefully this helps to ease your mind. I really don't think you will need more than 6 fills a year. -

This was my 4th fill and I definitely feel some restriction since my fill. I'm having to slow down on my liquids. I have a total of 6ccs in my band now. I told Elizabeth today, that I usually feel restriction for a few days and then it is gone. She told me not to worry, that until we hit my "sweet spot" it would be that way. I was worried I might have a leak or something. She said that if we don't get to my "sweet spot" soon, she will withdraw the Fluid to make sure there is no leak. I'm hoping this fill will do the trick. I tend to lose in spurts as well. I don't know why, but I've read that a lot of bandsters lose this way. I only lost 2 lbs since December 20th. At least I didn't gain. lol
