Celebrate the New Year with a New You Challenge
steph_co replied to cindyg1212's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah, I know they weren't paying attention. I guess what gets me is if you're going to be unconscious, at least TRY to notice that there are other people around besides yourself. I guess the "world revolves around me" attitude runs rampant where I work and it gets old. Not to jump on anyone. I just wish more people would pay attention to what they're doing. -

WTH? Dude...I'm not elitist at all...but at least if you're going to jump in on a weight challenge amongst a month group that you don't belong to, take the most recent stats before adding your own. -

steph_co replied to Momto1plus1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes...we need pics! LOL...the mood may have had something to do with my #3 in my original post. I'm seeing the creepy side of that... So yes, I get the good flirting, now...but I also have to take with that the skeevy guys that think I'm some kind of object. Thanks for the compliment. I do FEEL a whole lot better, now. I think I just get frustrated sometimes that I still have so far to go. -

Haha...I wish. LOL I sent some face pics to a friend of mine that was making an avatar for me for Myspace. She said I was getting "tiny." LOL I don't feel tiny when I have 42 more pounds to go. Thanks for the compliment. :Dancing_sorry: Thanks, Sades. I'm 5'7". -

The scale and I are not getting along. I don't know what my current weight is. My last weight was 172 - it'll have to do. And I'll just have to be a day early. LOL I'm in a "mood." 1. I'm in the smallest size I've been in since 1997 (size 10). 2. I feel NORMAL when I'm out and about instead of freakishly fat. 3. Haha...I'm young...Guys flirt with me now. :tongue2: The only before clothed posed pics I had were in my security uniform, so there you have it. I'm with a new company now, so it's a different uniform. The angles are a bit different along with the pic size...but I think you can get the basic idea. -
2009 - New York City Banded Together-Lapband Talk National Event
steph_co replied to CoachCher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have to say no just because of the location. It would be a lot easier if it were a little closer. Houston I would consider...or as someone else suggested, Las Vegas. I'll hang around to see where the other conferences might be. -

I don't even necessarily crave carbs. I just want to EAT, period. I used to crave chocolate before the band and when I'm not on low-carb. Right now I just want to eat anything. LOL
-
I just wanted to share a site that I was on before the band when I first did Atkins and then SB. It's now useful for me because I might have a craving for something that I used to eat before I cared about carbs - I go to this site, search for a recipe, and get a low-carb version. Wah-lah. LOL It's been a lifesaver and I thought it could be useful. They have over 4,000 recipes. LowCarbFriends Recipes - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost I've done low-carb versions of eggnog and beef stroganoff (they used lots of mushrooms instead of noodles - very good!).

What level are all the Nov 07 bandsters at?
steph_co replied to AndreaL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, Shortgal - I hadn't heard your story, was curious what happened. I would have been tempted to sue him for malpractice! I've said it before and I'll say it again - I sure do admire you for being able to do this without the band. I would have given up by now. You keep up the great work! You're an inspiration to me. -
Yes, bandsters don't get to eat as much. Hence the reason it's recommended (to the broad majority) to eat Protein and veggies first and then move onto other stuff if there's still room. It was also recommended by my surgeon's office to always take a multi-Vitamin and Calcium supplement. In addition, if I don't get enough calories in a day, I toss in a Protein shake.

Estrogen is stored in your body fat. I would imagine that losing a good amount of that storage space could affect your periods. I'm in the overweight category now and while my periods were always pretty moderate, it seems they have gotten even lighter. I have heavy flow the first day and then light to spotting the next 2-3 days after that. Maybe once you're at a stable weight for awhile, your body can figure out what's going on and readjust itself.

Restriction vs. Not Eating Properly?
steph_co replied to caramia71's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ooookay...I agree with Jacqui. LOL I don't think good restriction is based on a number, either. It's whatever it takes for you to eat healthy and lose weight at a healthy pace. It's a very personalized experience - the band. You have to decide what you're comfortable with and what works for you and your lifestyle. Me, I eat alone most of the time, so don't mind eating at a snail's pace. I get filled up with about a quarter to a third of what I used to be able to eat pre-band. No idea if it's a cup, half cup... It also depends on what food I'm eating. But I do stay satiated for probably at least 4 hours most of the time or longer. Sometimes have to remind myself to eat. -
I'd have a hard time not popping out with, "Wow, you know, some of the things you say are REALLY offensive. You might want to try a FILTER next time."
-
I'm just curious. If you could have ANY kind of plastic surgery and money was not an issue - you could have WHATEVER YOU WANTED, what would you get? I'm thinking if my tummy doesn't go totally flat that I'd consider a LBL. I also know for sure that I want lipo on my thighs/hips/butt - I've always hated that area even when I was skinny. So...share.

Wow. Well, hopefully she chooses wisely and shuts her mouth about it after that confrontation. I don't think that bringing it to the boss's attention is "crying" about it at all. What she's doing basically amounts to emotional abuse. The way she's making snarky comments does not come across as caring at all, but shallow and bitchy. What she's doing amounts to calling somebody that wears glasses "4-eyes." I mean, gees - what, is she in Jr High? She's really immature. Good thing she'll be gone soon. You shouldn't have to put up with that crap in the office. She's creating a poor work environment for you. Not exactly the best at boosting morale, huh?

Hrmmm...have you had a barium swallow/x-ray to see if you even HAVE any restriction? There was one lady in my month group that was having issues never having restriction and it turned out they had put the band around some FAT by the stomach and not around the upper stomach itself. I find it odd that you'd have absolutely no restriction - I'd look into that. If it really is in the right place, then maybe consider a revision to a different surgery like the sleeve. But I guess I'd also have to ask what kinds of food you're eating? I'm not trying to be an ass, but for instance, if I eat ice cream, there is no such thing as restriction. LOL That's just as an example.

Excellent post - it's good to see somebody on this long term. Thanks for sharing. And WOW, Josephine! Your pics are amazing! Great job.

How many sizes did u go down vs. the amt you've lost? curious..
steph_co replied to Crummy78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm finding that this time around in losing weight compared to when I was last this weight (2002), I am a smaller size and have NO IDEA why. I've lost about 63 lbs and dropped 5 sizes. Was originally 233 lbs and a size 20 (although I did my best to get away with size 18s...I didn't want to be in the 20's!!!). I'm now about 170 and a size 10. HUH? LOL The last time I was a size 10, I was in the 150's. I don't get it - go figure. -
I just avoid eating. LOL It helps that where I work, the only food available is what I bring on-site and getting to other food at the market is a hassle...not worth it. It's aggravating, nonetheless.

Got this out of this book: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Low-Carb-Cooker-Recipes-Better-Gardens/dp/069621895X/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1226149604&sr=8-9]Low Carb Slow Cooker Recipes[/ame] I guess the book got low reviews on Amazon. There are some of the recipes that have high carbs, but there are some easy to find ones that ARE low carb. At least if you're not a strict Atkins follower, these are some great recipes. I'm more of the South Beach school of thought. ANYWAY.... 1/4 C butter 1/2 C dry white wine 1 can golden mushroom Soup 1 packet of italian dressing mix 4 oz of chive and onion cream cheese spread 6 boneless chicken breasts Lay the chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker. Melt the butter in a medium-sized sauce pan. Add in the wine, soup, dressing mix and cream cheese. Stir and heat on medium until combined. Then pour the sauce over the chicken breasts. Cook the chicken 4-5 hours on low. It says you can garnish with fresh chives and use whole wheat Pasta. I skipped the chives and used spaghetti squash instead of the pasta. OMG...SOOO good. I can't get enough of this stuff. Even when I just was cooking up the sauce, I wanted to eat the sauce! It's even spectacular reheated. And another benefit - crockpot-cooked chicken is REALLY soft and easier to chew, IMO. Per serving: 310 cal, 17g fat total (9g sat.), 110 mg chol, 1043 mg sodium, 6g carb, 0g Fiber, 28g fiber

Does your doctor recommend high protein/low carb?
steph_co replied to Fanny Adams's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, in a roundabout way...yes. They said Protein first followed by veggies, then fruit....etc. So it ends up being high protein/low carb. But in low carb's defense, not all of the diets are as extreme as Atkins. I'm more of a SouthBeach girl, myself. -
I consider myself a low-carber, but I actually don't pay THAT much attention to how many I'm getting in a day. Basically, I don't whip myself if I get too many. I think the main thing is to cut out all the processed crap - white flour/sugar/etc. I think the South Beach Diet is a good starting point because it's more of a good carb/good fats diet rather than really EXCLUDING anything. It teaches foods to avoid and ones that are good for you. That's where I started and now I just try to make good decisions. I don't eat bread or Pasta at all. But once in a great while, I might eat brown rice (found out I love it so much more than white rice). I don't eat mashed potatoes, instead I'm now HOOKED on South Beach mashed potatoes (mashed cauliflower, basically - you'd be surprised how close they taste to the real thing if you make them right!). I don't drink sugary drinks, but do not get enough liquids in the day if I try plain Water. So now I have sugar-free Koolaid or Fuze Slenderize or Crystal Light. I try to keep all sugars low, so really I don't eat much in the way of fruit, either...even though that's against the SB diet later phases. I'm just afraid of cravings that I get when my body gets any version of sugar. But I do not limit my vegetables at all. If I have carbs that send me over, it's usually veggies that do it and I don't see how non-starchy green veggies could be a bad thing for anybody's diet. Hope that helps.
