Long Trip by Car
steph_co replied to WorththeWeight's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WTW - I am about 170 miles from my surgeon (3 hours). I went to my 2-week post-op appointment and drove right back the same day. So 340 miles in a day. I didn't have any issues. If you start to feel kind of cramped or uncomfortable, it's not a bad idea to pull over and get out to walk a little bit. But I didn't feel a need to and that was 2 weeks post-op. I'm 2 days shy of 3 weeks since my op and I wouldn't have a problem with a long car journey right now. -
How Long? (Recovery Time)
steph_co replied to HeatherA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was back to work 4 days post-op (physical job as a night security officer). Non-smoker and weight was 230 the day before op. -
Dr, Malley and fills...Red flag I should run...
steph_co replied to sarabluebell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Of course, WABB!! Of course! Here, I'll tell ya what...give me the link to a forum that you attend that is your area of practice and I'll go be your wing-woman to provide "evidence" that you ARE the best nurse! :heh: -
Getting Banded tomorrow (11/30)
steph_co replied to WorththeWeight's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
WTW - I was back at work 4 days post-op. Yes - VERY tired. I was moving pretty slowly. I'm trying to think when that let up. It might have been about a week or more post-op. -
Danger! Wife Nearly Died From Surgery
steph_co replied to tallywag's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Early complication rate with the Lap Band procedure is 1.7% and chance of mortality is .08%. So I would say no - not very common. I am very sorry to hear that this happened to her. I know that must have been very distressing. I hope she recovers quickly. -
Getting Banded tomorrow (11/30)

Brenda, are you not allowed protein shakes? The only one I can stand is Slim-Fast low carb. 20 g of protein. -
Getting Banded tomorrow (11/30)
steph_co replied to WorththeWeight's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
WTW - I had issues with port pain up until about 7-10 days out. And yes - I was taking Vicodin up until then. Of course, things were a little bit physical for me being at work, but eventually it calmed down. I felt like it was never going to go away. But it will - I promise. -
Spent the night in the hospital...(not band related)
steph_co replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, Rain - that's crazy! How scary. I'm really glad you are okay and that your husband was there to help. I'd say that's an exciting NSV about the hospital food! -
Lizzie - I've found that I have to measure out my food before I start eating. If I only have a cup in front of me and the rest of the food is put away out of sight, I don't have the heart to get it out and dig in to get more even if I feel hungry still. I dunno - that's just what works for me. And yes...I may only be 2 1/2 weeks out from my surgery, but I do know hunger and that urge to want more!! And this is stomach-grumbling, non-head-hunger.

What habits did you replace eating with?
steph_co replied to kimmi5207's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is too funny. I just read about this website last night on another forum I go to...right after I had thought knitting would be a great distraction for me. Was actually coming back here to post it! LOL -
solaa - That's what I'm worried about with mine. I have no idea if he'll say "no fill" if I'm still losing. But really, I'm just eating a lot less than I used to by choice. The beginning of a diet is always the easiest and most thrilling - the weight drops right off. But I know I'm going to need that fill to keep going. If I find out he won't fill because I'm still losing, I guess I'll have to go back and eat more.

What are you doing for exercise and how often?
steph_co replied to solaa5's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm doing the T-Tapp basic workout (15 mins) on my days off...which was 3 days off this last week. Then I'm just doing all my walking at work. As soon as things calm down a little, I plan to get into running and would like to do that at least 5 times a week. Elle - I did a 1-mile walk 2 days after my surgery and continued with the walking before I went back to work. Then I did a real "workout" with T-Tapp this past Monday, which was 11 days post-op. None of it has been too bad. I'm kind of antsy to get moving, actually! Trying to take it easy just because I know I'm still healing. -
I just don't want to overdo it. food has always been my joy, my comfort. I worry that I won't be able to stop myself and I don't want to gain back the weight that I have lost so far. So I pretty much eat one meal of soft foods and my other two meals are Slim Fast low carb. I feel in control this way. Especially being up here at work at night by myself - food has been a major hobby of mine. I can sit and graze for hours sitting in front of my computer in between patrols. I guess the main thing is that I don't want food to be what I look forward to in my day anymore. Having two meals that are Slim Fast seems to make this easier. It's more of a job to accomplish so that I have energy to do my real job. Anybody else not wanting to move onto real food?

*sigh* Even though we're having a full conversation, I guess I have to completely pull a thought from something I just said into my next post so you don't take it out of context. I am not enforcing my will on other people by using pain. Again - we choose to control when we fail to inspire. Getting the band is the only thing that I have found so far that works for me so far. I have no idea how it will be down the road. It's not so much a fear of PAIN that is keeping me in line - I'm a comfort person. Meaning that I will not wear the nicest pair of shoes that anybody would die to have if they are not COMFORTABLE to me. But that's just me. Everybody's different. I don't believe in smacking somebody to teach them a consequence. L&L has shown me other ways to teach consequences that don't cause pain, but have a lasting effect. My mother used to spank me. Did I shape up and become her best behaved child? No. I was the worst out of all of them. I wasn't awful, but I did many behaviors repeatedly...ones that I had been punished for in that way already. It did not teach me that what I did caused the pain...it taught me to resent my mother for doing it, it taught me to do my best to not get caught. But I still continued to do whatever I wanted. In my study of L&L, I have run across similar scenarios as behavior I had done (no, I can't think of a specific example right now...it's late, I'm tired, and I'm at work) and when I heard their solution, it made me go, "Ooooo, good one!" I have never, ever thought that hitting was an effective way to get results from anybody. I wish my mom had known L&L when I was growing up - my life would have been a whole lot easier!

I'm only just past two weeks banded. I have not PB'd. No fill yet. But I am not forcing MY will on OTHER people. I am forcing will on myself. We choose to control when we fail to inspire.

I'm of the Love & Logic camp. Love and Logic - Helping Parents and Teachers Raise Responsible Kids Strategies that you can use even when they are babies so that by the time they get older, they DO listen. I've seen it work wonders with my step-kids. We'll see how it works with my OWN from birth onwards, but I've heard nothing but good things from people who use it and have seen firsthand people IRL that use it and their kids are amazing. I don't believe in teaching kids violence.

I missed putting my point in. The point is, you are teaching your child that using PAIN is an effective way to get others to do what you want.

:clap2: I can't comprehend hitting somebody just to hit them (those in the camp of, "I never do it when I'm angry"). And I don't care if you think spanking on the butt with your hand is not hitting - IT IS. hit /hɪt/Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[hit]Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciationverb, hit, hit·ting, noun –verb (used with object) 1.to deal a blow or stroke to Sounds like to me you are HITTING their butt. Hence, you are hitting a child. The nospank.net website I posted before gave me the most compelling reasons to not do it to my own children.

I vote for the lie about it being a hernia repair. LOL That's what I plan on if I ever have to say I had surgery for something. If you go look at pictures of a hiatal hernia, it almost looks like a dang Lapband, anyway, just with the diaphragm instead and no positive results from it.

I was banded Thursday morning, was scheduled to go back to work Sunday night, but felt I was a still a bit too run down to do it. So I ended up back at work Monday night. Semi-physical job (security patrol).

Really simple to edit your ticker - just click on it. You should have a password that you used to set it up with. Put that in, press the button to edit/update, fix your info and press the button to finish. It'll change the info for you so you don't have to keep putting in a new URL when your ticker goes down.

I'm wearing my Actitrainer for work tonight. I'm interested to see the comparison in how many calories I burn on days I work vs days I'm at home. My job can get pretty physical. I'm getting in and out of the vehicle a couple dozen times per night, and climbing about 20 floors' worth of stairs. This way I can input the extra calories burned for days I work into mydailyplate.com . I really should get set up on the Actitrainer free trial - it's pretty cheap monthly after that. Hrm.

Good to hear from you WTW! Glad you went through with it. Ouch on the bruised liver. Hope you heal quickly! -
Nervous about eating...moving to soft foods
steph_co replied to steph_co's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I feel like I shouldn't have anymore (satiated), I just feel full. When I went too far one time, it HURT. I felt discomfort at the top of my stomach and then stabbing pain at the bottom point of my shoulder blade. I don't ever want to feel that again, so I stick to no more than a cup, period. No matter how good what it is I'm eating tastes. -
I have an ActiTrainer. Haven't really used it much - I was trying to let DH have dibbs first. But he's unmotivated - I'm stealing it back. LOL
