Hi, Bobbi: I had my pre-op visit with my surgeon this morning. Everything is looking great. I was relieved to find out that I don't have to do any prep for cleaning out my innards. I was wondering how I was going to do that and still teach three classes! I'm supposed to get there at 6 a.m. for my 7 a.m. surgery. I could be going home between 11 and noon! I stopped at the store today and got more broth, some SF Jello, SF popcycles, and a Pur water filter pitcher. I'd like to start drinking more water and less prepared drinks. I also got a couple of insulated containers, one for drinking hot broth and the other for cold drinks -- burnt orange, of course! It will be hard to stay focused tomorrow but just one more day! Good luck!

Bobbi Rose: Are you getting excited? What do you have left to do before Thursday? I think I've bought everything I need -- now I just need to gather it in one place so everything is easy to find. My surgery is at 7 a.m. How about yours?

Lindsayann, I went to preop at my hospital today, too. It wasn't a class but just the paperwork but I also made my financial arrangements and that does give you a sense of finality! My doctor and nutritionist said I would lose most of my weight in the first five months that I am on the clear liquids, full liquids, and soft food stage. I know it won't be easy but I don't get bored with food too easily. When I find something I like, I can have it every day. Good luck Friday!

Check out the November 07 board further down on the list of boards. There are a bunch of us having surgery in November! I'm on the 1st!

Did that work? Actually, while I understand that you want to develop better eating habits, I don't think you should be too hard on yourself. After all, there's a reason you got the band and that was to help you with self-control. It's not helping you yet! Good luck with your next fill! :clap2:

justwaitin2b banded in October and a bit scared
Longhorn replied to justwaitin2b's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My doctor is even more conservative! Clear liquids for two weeks, full liquids for four weeks, then soft food for ten weeks! It will be 16 weeks before I start eating a regular diet! But if I avoid some of the spitting up and getting stuck that I read about here, it will be worth it to me (I think?) :boink: -
justwaitin2b banded in October and a bit scared

Hi, Ann! I'm about to leave for my pre-op visit to the hospital to take care of the paperwork. Then I see my surgeon in the morning for my pre-op visit with him. And that's it until I get to the hospital Thursday morning for the surgery. I had a few moments of anxiousness earlier today when I called my surgeon's office and she said that my GP didn't do all of the labs that were on the list. But then she looked again, after putting me on hold a minute, and said she just looked at it wrong. I was a little anxious because my schedule is so tight that I was wondering how I was going to fit in additional tests and whether they would be back in time! I can't cancel my surgery because I've already cancelled two days of classes and that's kind of hard to "undo." So all is good! I'm getting ahead on grading and classwork as much as I can so that I don't have to do much, if any, while I'm recuperating. Thanks for asking! :boink: -
This is the latest list, unless I've missed someone. Jelbel, the one you copied wasn't up to date and I had already added you in the post above yours. 1st PattyPoo Nessa3678 brandymom1234 Mom_of_Chuy sanderro Holiwood Longhorn Forestcat Rhea 2nd lizzie_07 lindata KristinaDawnB lindseyann2u sconie pam726 5th DLW Hungryforchange wnt2lose jelbel 6th Wishes4444(Ann) Diva Inside ndmom kandiceb jetti vanessav 7th Goldie1109 susieq125 shadst83 Cota129 Imonmyway7368 8th anw5102 dawndannae stranger138 needto ebrow39 9th Banded4Life neen7171 maccy mariaxoxo4u Kristin1031 10th Selisejohnson omlagirl jen6740 12th jrsyshoregrl684 suebob 13th CCFRA Princessannod1 14th lightenup! dream'n2bthin 15th RxTracy steph_cn Hopping to It- Danna sunshiny 19th Mrs Smartypants 26th kuchiegrl1 27th 731Shawty Cherlita Julie-Ann 28th lukin puppy 29th Sassafras

I wish I could take that long! I could have waited until between semesters but I'm not a patient person!

Fighting Weight. Here's more about it: ABC News: Excerpt: Khaliah Ali's 'Fighting Weight'

I talked to three doctor's offices while I was researching and every one of them said that I should be fine having surgery on Thursday and return to work Tuesday. I teach at a community college so I had to cancel classes on two days. I realize we won't know until we are there ourselves but I'm feeling pretty good about it. Good luck!

Walking, yes, but not exercise. I guess every doctor is different. -

I understood that I am not to exercise for six weeks. Perhaps it's too early for you to be on the elliptical? -
Thanks for kicking the thread, K@T! This is the first I've seen it. I teach math at a community college. I'm an adjunct so I don't work full time, though I have four classes this semester, including one about 45 minutes away. I also tutor on campus. And I've been doing contract work for a textbook company so this has been a busy fall! I don't have to worry about discipline if I have to leave class, since my students are all adults, but it would be embarrassing, especially if it was in the middle of my lecture. So I plan to be extra careful about what I eat right before class! There's a refrigerator just down the hall from my office. I teach Monday through Thursday. My department chair has given me permission to cancel class on Thursday, the day I'm having surgery, and Monday, and my first class Tuesday is at 6 p.m. so I should have enough time. Also, the time changes next weekend so I get another hour!

Propel is a fitness water made by Gatorade. You can get it a version with calcium, too. It only has 20 calories per bottle and also has vitamins. It's on my doctor's list of liquids I can have. I haven't tried Unjury but several on this board have recommended it. I got mine at Welcome to the UNJURY Homepage. I can't speak from experience yet because my order hasn't arrived yet. But others say it dissolves easily and the unflavored truly has no flavor. They liked the flavors, too. I hope I like it because I ordered a lot!

So glad you got it figured out! My doctor told me that he can tell if the syringe hits the port because of how it reacts -- something about how the plunger encounters resistance, if I remember correctly. I'm definitely not in the medical field! I hope you get great results with your new level of restriction!

It's a great feeling when you realize that this is the right decision. And I'm sure it would be just as great a feeling if you decided it wasn't. It's the in-between that is troublesome! I'm amazed now that I had any doubts. I am truly sold. Good luck! I hope all goes smoothly!

I got broth, SF Jello (to be made so I can add powdered egg whites for extra protein,) Propel, Diet Snapple, liquid Tylenol, and Gas-X strips. I can't have fruit juice until I get to soft foods as my doctor thinks the acid causes too much irritation. I've also ordered Unjury to add to the broth. I have to be on this clear liquid diet for two weeks!

Actually, your BMI is not really high. My BMI is 35 and that is considered on the low side for lapband surgery. You may have trouble finding a surgeon who will perform the surgery on you with such a low BMI.

Seriously Thinking About Backing Out
Longhorn replied to MollyBrown's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You've brought up several issues and only you can determine what the true underlying cause is of your hesitation. However, regarding Protein, there are ways to handle that situation. My first suggestion would be to go to a store that sells protein supplements and ask to taste a sample. I know my GNC store will do that. Also, many sites that sell protein, such as unjury, have samples that you can order. Second, there are other ways to get your protein besides the whey supplements. For example, SlimFast low-carb has 20 grams of protein per shake so you would only need three shakes a day to get to 60 grams of protein. Also, my nutritionist recommended adding egg white powder to sugar-free Jello (when you prepare it.) That would add 11.5 grams of protein per serving. As far as saying goodbye to food, I honestly believe that it IS temporary and once I start to see some results, I will be happy to give it up for awhile. I thought it would be impossible for me to give up Diet Coke but I haven't even missed it! I'm drinking Diet Snapple and Propel instead. I'm sure the band isn't for everybody but do consider that this may be just a temporary emotional reaction to your protein situation, which really can be resolved. Good luck!
