How much fill do you have in your 10 cc band?
DavidB replied to trapped inside's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's been slow going up until my last fill about a month ago, now at 6cc. Up until then I could eat quite a bit and had only lost 30lbs. Now I'm down 40 and feel like I'm at a good spot. -
My surgery was last October and I was very hungry up until my third band fill last month. Now my hunger is finally under control. Up until then I had lost about 30lbs but now it's really starting to come off (and finally below 200lbs). But it took 8 months to get a good "fit" with the band

Bigdaddy...congratulations ! I can tell you a DONUT is one thing I definitely can't eat with the band.... doesn't go down well. But they sure do smell good! Dave

tenacious tens-what are your intolerable foods so far

chicken is a big problem for me also, I eat a lot of tuna (but the can stuff.. not grilled). About a week after surgery I chomped down on a pretzel. Talk about PAIN, I almost had a near death experience! Haven't done that again. Someone suggested turkey sliced very thin and I did ok with that. For those of you drinking Slim Fast.. do you get the low carb stuff? I'm trying to stick with the high Protein, low carb diet and that stuff is actually quite good. Better than Atkins but Atkins is drinkable. Down 30 lbs since Oct 24. Still haven't figured out how to put that Weight loss ticker on my profile. -
Chicken goes down hard for me and I'm getting kinda tired of tuna. I'd like to stick with the high protein low carb diet and I usually have a couple protein shakes a day. I'm just not creative in in the food fixin dept (but use to be good at eating what was put in front of me!) My wife does the cooking for her and the kids so I'm on my own. Any creative suggestions?

Hey Guys, thanks for taking the time. How about Peanut Butter? I bought some Reduced Fat but it still more sugar than I would like. Someone told me if I go for the "Natural" stuff they have less sugar and more Protein but I haven't check it out. Dave

Big D You are right, it doesn't matter what other people think. You made the right decision to save your life. Had mine done 10/26/07. Was doing good until the Holidays came and put on a few pounds but am back on track now. So it shows the band is a tool and not a cure all (but I sure wish it was!) I would certainly do it again and I'm still figuring out what I can and can't eat. Did find out I can't eat bagel's, not even one bite...PAIN. Dave

Anyone use Dr. Garth Davis in Houston, TX
DavidB replied to DreaminSkinny's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
"Big Medicine"....that is the name of the show. Reruns on Discovery Health Channel but haven't seen any new shows on TLC recently. But...it's a great show, check it out. -
I tried a little of everything over T'giving. The mashed potato's and green bean casserole went down fine but turkey and stuffing was a rough go. Unfortunately the pumpkin pie also went down fine, time to get back to the protein shakes.
-
I did the same as Dave01 and started cutting down in regular food and trying to get through the day on protein shakes since the 2 weeks before surgery that's all I could have anyway. Well....can't say I was perfect through any of it but managed to drop 8lbs before surgery. Did great the first week after surgery but now find I'm getting more hungry than I want to be.

Since I can't have solid food yet I do have to drink any protein I'm getting. I'm using the Slim-Fast Low Carb Diet drink which has 20 g of protein and only 2 g of carb.

I'm male 5'8" and my dr told me 70 grams a day. I thought that seemed like a lot, actually doing around 40 - 50.

Headed to the hospital tomorrow at 7am. By this time tomorrow I'll be one of the "Banded Bro's". Not really nervous about it at this point but it might hit me when they wheel me in. How were you guys feeling the first couple days after? My neighbor is having a Halloween party tomorrow night. Thinking there is no way I'll make it but maybe I won't feel as bad as I think I will.

I Survived! (10/26) Not too bad with the gas pain after the first day but certainly sore from the incisions. Anaestheologist was tell me they had problems putting in the breathing tube and they ended up having to use fiber optic and if I ever had surgery again make sure to tell them blah blah blah. I was still in lala land when he was telling me this and didnt' catch it all. No nausea the first 24 hours but then have had a few bouts last a couple hours then it's gone. Anyone else experience that?

Hi SlimerJim, Congratulations on the weight loss so far and good to hear your positive experience. I live in Zephyrhills and have 5 kids also. Will be getting the band next Friday(26) in Dade City with Dr. DiCicco. I'm supposed to be on a liquid diet but has slipped a couple times but have lost 8 lbs. Dave

Dr Krish in Dade City? any thoughts please

Good to hear your positive experience with Pasco Regional, I'm headed there next Friday (10/26). Dr. DiCicco is performing my surgery who is in with Dr. Grossbard and Dr. Krish. No experience with Dr. Krish, he's never been there when I've been at the office. Dave -
Start my liquid diet tomorrow..I'm having a hot dog tonight!
DavidB posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No....I'm going to have 2 hot dogs! :hungry: Tomorrow I start my Optifast 2 week before surgery diet so I thought I'd go out with a bang. Actually, I've been REALLY good for the last 2 weeks. Cutting way back on food and surviving mostly on SlimFast low carb high Protein drinks. With that, I've lost 7lbs in the last 2 weeks. Wish me luck. Dave -
Good to see the pictures so I know there really is hope. We went on a camping trip over the summer and when my wife showed me the pictures I couldn't believe what a big fat stomach I had. Didn't realize it was that bad until I saw the pictures (worth a 1000 words!) Oh well, 2 more weeks till surgery.

Hey Big Wave Dave, Thanks for the reply. Yep, on BP medication (Lotrel). LOL on the "THINGS (do make draw a picture) start to wake up again"....I hear ya! That alone will be worth loosing a bunch of weight. Hope to get off the BP meds and off the sleep apnea maching. That thing is a pain in the.... You are doing great with 72lbs down. Good to hear the success stories. I know it's going to work but I really do have a hard time picturing myself down at a normal weight.

"15 pounds in 6 days"....wow...that's great! I get 5 Optifast a day but can also have broth. The dr did say that I'd probably get sick of the sweet taste so the broth did a good job on cutting through that. Surgery is being performed in Dade City FL (just north of Tampa) and am scheduled for the 26th of October. Friday is pizza night here for the kids and that won't be easy but I know I'll make it through. -
Eric, we have the same surgery date (10/26/2007)...cool. I've really cut down on the carbs the last couple week and already I'm feeling better. I'm nervous but also excited to have the surgery, can't imagine how I'll feel when I drop about 80lbs.

Hi guys, I've been on this site for about a week and cool to find "The Mens Room" 50yrs old 5'8" and 240lbs. The health problems with the weight are really hitting me hard (high BP, sleep apnea, constant joint pain). Having said that, I'm scheduled for the band on Oct 26. Next Friday I'm starting the 2 weeks of OptiFast and trying to get a jump on it with low carb SlimFast. So far I have not been able to do only the SlimFast without eating something during the day and a little worried when I hit next Friday and know there will be no solid food. Maybe if I could empty my house of food I could do it but have 5 kids running around so that's out of the question. Any suggestions? Now that I found The Mens Room I'll have to go back and see what everyone has to say.

I'm in Zephyrhills which is about 20 miles north of Tampa. I'm anxious for the results of the Lapband but nervous about the process getting there.
