    Energy

I have a question about energy levels. When I go without food for too long or eat too little, I don't feel hungry... I feel bad, weak, irritable, and plain lousy. I really can't function until I get some nutrition. My blood sugar has never shown abnormal results. I'm concerned that after the surgery the reduced calories will make me feel this way often, even if I drink or eat small meals regularly. I plan to ask my doctor about this next week (forgot before... Need a list!) but I was wondering if any else has had experience with what I call "feeling puny" when I "need to eat". My brother has the same reaction.

You look peaceful and beautiful. And your home is gorgeous!
  8. She may have felt like she is being somehow blamed for your weight. People say things that come out poorly. Unless she makes a habit of jumping on you, I would just let it slide. On the pre-op diet, you will find even the healthy food tempting but just have to be strong and know it's temporary. Once sleeved, you will not be able to eat the junk food, and likely won't want to. So I would just move past it and focus on this wonderful opportunity you have before you. That's what counts!
  9. Smoking has a detrimental effect on the entire family. Unless the person is fortunate enough to die some other (quick) way, smoking WILL kill them and it is a terrible, agonizing, senseless way to die. And the family has to go through that. No, you can not change anyone. Everyone must decide for themselves. But I see smoking as a very selfish habit. And his property or not, he is not entitled to expose you to toxins. I recommend a good therapist, support group, or a pastor if that works better for you and pronto. You have a lot of stress on you and need clarity and objective guidance. Be good to your husband but don't be a door mat. And kudos to you to facing your own problems head on! I will say prayers for you. God bless.

    New guy here.

Hello Ash and greetings from Texas! My date is Sep 10. I am also excited and scared, but mostly excited. Reading posts from others who have fared so well and are feeling so much stronger and energetic gives me encouragement every day. I hope you enjoy the posts like I am! Lots of wonderful people on here.
  11. Oh Lord! First of all, you need to let that place know about your painful experiences! Granted some procedures are just painful no matter who does them, but when you experience pain because of someone's inexperience, that is plain unacceptable! No need to be ugly but you can suggest that some additional training is in order! And he moved out??? What a kick in the gut. I am so sorry. But you are right to keep going forward. This is for YOU! I also don't know how I will be getting to and fro and I will recover alone. But lots of others have done it and so will we! God bless you, dear. What you are doing takes courage. You will make it.
  12. Solvasnj4, my psych consult was nothing difficult. She asked me questions like when have I lost weight in the past, how much and for how long, what kind of risks am I aware of regarding this surgery, what obstacles do I anticipate and how will I handle them... Things like that. I told her that in my case I used to be fit and active but things got hard when my parents' health declined and I became their caregiver plus working full time. My self care hit rock bottom and my weight climbed. Now I have no mental or physical energy to combat the weight and I need a kick start. I am in treatment for depression and plan to start exercising once I have some weight off and it's not so painful. She said I am informed and motivated and an "excellent candidate" so she cleared me. Just relax and be honest! But read up on what you are facing so he/she knows you are informed and prepared... I hope this helps you! Too bad about hubby. But you don't need his approval. And he will change his tune when you are a tinier version of you! Keep your eye on the prize and God bless!
  13. Congratulations and welcome to the club! I just finished all my requirements (went pretty quickly) and am now waiting. Knzt, I start my pre-op diet on the 27th, too. My surgery date is 9/10. Wish it was tomorrow!
  14. Just say "I'll pass it on to my physician that you disagree with his treatment plan" and walk off. I used it before. Worked great! LOL!

    Anemia

Oh my goodness! Transfusions and shots? You must have terribly anemic! Poor thing! I hope you are feeling much better now! Having a normal iron level has done wonders for my energy and attitude. I was really dragging around!

    Anemia

Well, one month ago I found out I was very anemic so the pushed my surgery date back to Sep and put me one 120mg of iron per day. Just under a month later, my iron level has gone from 20 to 53! (They want 40-60.) So that was my last hurdle! Pre-op diet starts in 3 weeks. Just having a normal iron level has given me so much more energy! Can't wait!
  17. I checked their web site last week as I was going to be headed out of town. You can search for retailers by zip code. I love their vanilla shakes!
  18. Your story reminds me of mine. I used to be very active and in good shape. Life happened. My dad developed dementia and my mom became disabled. I took care of them. Stress, worry, severe depression, financial problems, lay off, grief from their eventual deaths... All too much. My own self care didn't matter to me anymore. I just got larger, more depressed, and wanted to die. But now I have hope for the first time in so long. I feel like my life is starting anew.

    Pre op testing

Every policy's requirements are different, and pre-op steps will vary by physician and with your age, BMI, and comorbidities. My plan and physician required no waiting period or weight loss due to my high BMI. I had a pab and mammogram, blood work, colonoscopy / egd, a psych consult, a seminar, a support group meeting, and a consult with a nutritionist... All good to have at my age. It has been quick and painless.
  20. You really do have such a beautiful, happy, healthy glow. What a wonderful story. Thank you for the inspiration.
  21. I first looked into this about 4 years ago and chickened out. Then I got laid off my job of 23 years. I found out how tough that job market is, especially when you are 100 lbs overweight and your self-confidence is in the toilet. After panicking and feeling really sorry for myself, I thought about this again and went to a seminar. That was all it took. Now I am so excited and can't wait! It's going to be awesome! We're going to feel great, have energy, renewed confidence, and we're going to knock 'em dead! So glad to hear you are doing this for yourself, too! God bless!
  22. Oh yeah. A joint is just what I need. NOT!!

    Sports bra

I bought a couple on Amazon after reading all the reviews. Sorry I don't remember brands but the reviews are always very helpful so I relied on them. I was pleased with what I bought.
  24. I can't wait until I can just hop up and swing my leg over like I used to! Sometimes I dream about riding her, about her just stretching out in a dead run and I'm just grinning and it's like we're flying. It's gonna be so great.
