  1. Had my last series of test and meetings today... 5 hours! Got my appt time... Have to arrive 5:30am on 9/10. Five more days till liquid diet. Ack.
  2. You know, I have worked in healthcare for 30 years and see this more and more often. The truth is, a lot of bad things can happen to a patient when a physician has a sloppy staff... Prescription and lab screw ups, important messages not delivered... These are patient safety issues. And then the billing fiascos! If the surgeon can do it and you are comfortable with him... And if he gets good reviews, I would do it. To go through that pre-op diet again...ugh. But if they don't fix it immediately, I'd get my money back and write a serious letter of complaint and let the hospital corp office know as well. I hope it works out for you... PS He needs to have a serious talk with his staff. They make or break his practice. Please tell him that.
  3. Hi, I am 56. I live near Houston Tx and my surgery is 9/10. My final pre-appt is tomorrow (surgeon, nut, labs, ekg, a seminar). My liquid diet starts next Wed the 27th. Dreading that! But it will be oh so worth it! Yay us!!
  4. I am really hoping the sleeve will help me kick my sugar addiction. I've had it for years.
  5. Also, I am almost 57. I have learned this lesson the hard way: Don't let fear make your decisions for you.
  6. Can you share what you read that scared you? I have read mostly positive posts. I was very apprehensive until I met with the surgeon. And once I went to a support group meeting of pre and post surgery folks, my fears really evaporated. Now I am kind of dreading the pre op diet but no fear. There are always risks but statistically I have more to fear from obesity. Don't do this if you have doubts. But go to a support group before you decide and meet people who had it done. It really helped me. God bless!
  7. OMG! Unbelievable that people are so incredibly stupid!

    weight gain after starting gym

You will gain muscle (therefore weight) if you do weights. But that's awesome! Muscle burns calories. Work those weights!

    Saggy Face

    Fezik, ROTFLMAO!

    sleep apnea

Mine was two nights... First with no mask, just monitoring. Second with a mask and monitoring, and they made adjustments to find the right settings. All I can say is, I don't ever want to live without a cpap again. I had no idea how bad my apnea was. I had it so long, I thought feeling dead was normal. Thank God for modern medicine!
  11. For ethical reasons. My surgery is a month out. I won't consider doing this until I am healed and months out, if not longer. Anyone else had any experience with a vegan diet after a sleeve and if so, any words of wisdom or warning?
  12. Have my final pre-op meeting with the surgeon and nut this week. Liquid diet starts in 8 days. I am planning to go to my favorite Jewish deli one last time before then.

    Countown

I don't really care! Lol! Just love real deli food - nothing compares to it! - so anything will be great. A cup of kreplach soup for sure though!
  14. Please just make sure you have the contact info for a bariatric surgeon both near your home and as close as possible to your work. Have a plan just in case you run into any complications and have to see a physician. You never know...

    feeling down

Mine got pushed back a month due to anemia. But I also think things happen for a reason. I've seen evidence of this too many times not to believe it. I think you should just look forward to the new date and focus on being excited again. God bless. And congratulations on getting your date! It's just around the corner.

    Painkillers

Thanks all. I'm really encouraged by so many saying they didn't need much in the way of pain killers. I'm not too fond of them myself. Most tend to make me feel sick.
  17. I need to ask my doctor this but thought I'd run it by yall. What sort of painkiller did you need/take in the hospital and once home and for how long, if anything? I seldom take anything for pain beyond ibuprofen (which I know I'll not be able to take anymore). The gave me darvoset (?) after my hysterectomy (it was not laparoscopy) but I heard that is no longer used.
  18. Thanks everyone! I will definitely wait until I am on a solid diet, healed, and stable before trying this and only after a Nut consult. Oh btw, Par1959, sugar is not vegan, that is, cane sugar is not.

    Pennys story SUPERSIZED

Tara was the one who scared me! Gosh was she ever hot tempered.
  20. I have seen vegan protein powders. I too am concerned about getting proper nutrition. I suppose I must do a lot of research. I tried a vegan diet way back for a while and felt wonderful. But I fell off the wagon. We'll see...
  21. My Nut has me taking a brand called Celebrate Bariatric Supplements. I ordered them online. A little expensive but she says they absorb better. I was extremely anemic but after less than 30 days on the iron, my level had gone from 20 to 53. (Normal for women is 40-60.) So I'm sticking with this!
  22. Welcome! I love your attitude! It sounds like you are a very strong person who has been through a lot but you love the Lord. You are going to do great! Lean on Him and we will love to hear how you are doing! Congratulations!
  23. I don't get it either. It's like people who tell people with clinical depression to "cheer up". Really... Gee... I never thought of that! Thanks!
  24. Stress brings out the best in all of us, doesn't it?

    Out 7 Days & Pissed

I would ask to speak to his nurse. The receptionist is not in a position to address this. Not her place.
