Hi, I should have asked my surgeon or nut this but never did. What is the reason for having us drink so many ounces of fluid per day? My surgery was 9/10 and I am really struggling to get them down. I am so sick of water. I thought if I knew the health reason for it, it might help me.

My post-op was really painful, too, so caffeine withdrawal was the last thing I was worried about. I was too busy thinking about my abdomen that was screaming in pain! I guess that was kicking the habit the hard way...
-
I found out today that my pain is due to internal stitches placed by my surgeon to strengthen the area in the abdominal wall where the stomach was removed. Some have made reference to these stitches but I didn't realize that not all surgeons even place the internal stitches in order to ease recovery and some do minimal stitching. I think my surgeon did a stitching for an Amish quilt in there so hence the tugging and pain. While I hate the pain, it is temporary and for my benefit, so I feel better about it. Supposed it can be 3-6 weeks before it is relieved so I have a way to go. Thank you for the encouragement everyone. I feel better. Now, on with the never ending horrible fluids!

SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
JCP replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@sweethime, what day were you sleeved? I don't get why I'm still having this pain on day 10. It was better at about 6 days but I think my increased mobility is what has done it. Did laundry, washed dishes, cooked dinner for hubby, next thing I knew... Damn! Just want it to go away. -
SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
JCP replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved 9/10. Three days in hospital. Pain was significant there but improved. Day 6, I felt much better pain-wise and energy also. But my pain has gotten worse again. It radiates from the large incision area. As long as I am resting in a reclined position, the pain disappears. But when I walk around, it really hurts. There is no weeping at the incision or anything external that appears wrong. No problems drinking my fluids. No fever. Just pain at that site Am calling the doctor in the morning. Sick of pain!! -
I am day 6. My husband took a pic of my face. Noticeable difference between today and when I began my 2 week pre-op.
-
Much more energy today. Got out of bed with NO pain! Feeling almost human again! But what the heck... It's like the rest of my digestive system sprung back to life with a vengeance today! Sorry if TMI! I guess it's good to know my entire GI system is back up and running! Gheesh.

We’re excited to announce a brand new version of our free iOS & Android app!
JCP replied to JustWatchMe's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I downloaded the app on my iphone 4s yesterday; since then, I am unable to use it due to lockups and crashes. I had to try several times to get to this section. I am having to use Safari now. -
Issue with very irregular bowel movements
JCP replied to mbrinmn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am only day 6 but before today, nada. Then today, it 's like my body woke up and I've gone several times. Prior to my surgery, exercise and water were my best tools for coping with bowel issues. I don 't know how things will work weeks or months out. Does walking help you any? -
How much weight did you lose preop?
JCP replied to _2juicy_'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost 10 lbs on my 2 week liquid preop. Made me really happy! -
I bought a bikini that looks very much like one I had at 15 and it is hanging on my wall. LOL! I know I will likely never wear it but it makes me smile ! Also I am having fun searching wedding dress sites for our 15 year vow renewal next year. And when my legs slim down, I'm getting boots dammit!

Worst pain ever. SNEEZED 6 days out.
JCP replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh Lord this must have been awful! I coughed and it felt like my insides were coming apart. I'll have to take note and try to stifle any sneezes! -
Hey Crow, yay that your doctor approved the mj! Sounds like it works well for you. Truth be told, I'd rather use it than the hydrocodone I was on but in the first days after surgery I would have bitten a bullet or chewed a leather strap if that's what they gave me ! Lol!

I was sleeved 9/10 and asked my doctor's nurse about this. (She had a bypass 4 years ago.) She said at Thanksgiving I will be on normal food. She said she eats whatever she wants - some turkey and dressing with gravy in small portions, and later a few bites or a sliver of pie if she wants it. She said just keep the portions small, eat slowly, and no drinks with the meals. If your house is anything like mine, there will be food and football all weekend so just eat tiny meals and remember to get your protein in. She made me feel much better about it. God bless!

I am on day 6, hurting, and questioning the wisdom of my decision. I think this is just temporary - I pray it is - and that in another few weeks I'll start to feel better and hopeful. Please keep these posts coming. They are so encouraging to those of us who need a boost. God bless you all and love from Texas.

Another Texan here. Mine was 9/10. Still some pain. Sick of sipping!

My doc gave me a wrap to wear around my torso when I am up and around and it seems to help. Yep, that main incision is definitely the one that smarts!

My pre-op diet starts tomorrow
JCP replied to waneta35's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Btw, my vow renewal will be in a year on Galveston beach. It's a very sentimental location for me. I am so excited at the thought of a regular sized dress! God bless your journey! -
My pre-op diet starts tomorrow

That preop is no fun but you'll make it! Congratulations on taking the plunge! This time next year you can go back to Hawaii 100 lbs smaller! -
I was Sept 10 also. I hurt, too. I am taking liquid meds. I am just resting a lot, trying to get these fluids down, and walking. I hope our pain subsides soon!

Miserable - Relationship Sucks
JCP replied to HaddocksEyes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My husband was a former smoker when we met. He resumed about a year after we married. Who quits for 5 years then goes back?? We were broke and he was spending $100 a month on cigarettes. He already had multiple stents. Finally he quit but I don't think I would have stayed had he not. BUT he still eats the wrong things and drinks, even though he has congestive heart failure and diabetes. I just had my surgery. You can bet a come to Jesus meeting is on the horizon. I'm going to tell him there's no reason to spend thousands of dollars a year on tests, exams, and meds, and then go have bbq and beer. I love him to pieces but I watched both my parents die slow deaths brought on by their choices. I'm trying to change. I don't want to go through it myself or watch the person I love go through it. -
So amazing!! We are renewing our vows on Galveston beach in Nov 2015. I am less than a week out from surgery but am having fun looking through dresses! What a great post!

Sweets are my downfall and got me into this so I so I am going to have to pass them by. I'm hoping I will be lucky and dislike them or have problems digesting them. I wish there was no such thing as sugar.
-
Poor thing. How are you now? I got out of the hospital of Fri and am on clear liquids at home. I, too, felt like I had been beaten up. You definitely have to take time even between sips I have learned. I take hydrocodone at night only. Glad your wife is there to help. Being alone sucks a bit but it's ok. Hope tomorrow is more comfortable for you!

Amazed at some day one or two post op recovery stories
JCP replied to gregthegroove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still struggling too, sweet. I just can't get all my fluids and protein in. But it is slowly improving, not as hard to get up and down, no nausea. Some gas pain remaining and the main incision area is very sore. So sick of liquids!! But this is going to pass very quickly and I'll be one of the cheerleaders. God bless you all; rest well tonight!
