Went to the store and picked up some items from my Nut's suggested shopping list: eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, some light soups for the blender, etc. Nervous about trying any of them. What was your first soft food and did you have any trouble? I am 2.5 weeks out. Been on shakes and bouillon.

Trouble with your liquids - USE THIS
JCP replied to GummyTummy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I liked these before surgery and now I can't stand them! I can't find one that tastes decent! Even water tastes awful. I hope this is not permanent. -
Day 2 after surgery and the air in my body has to go.....
JCP replied to TeacherMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take those pain meds and sleep all you can. -
It is a very effective tool. It is also a life altering surgery... Both good and bad... And not to be taken lightly. I considered it for several years. Finally decided it was my best alternative. I am only 3 weeks out and admit the rough recovery has made me doubt my decision. But I think 6 months from now I will be very glad I did this. Heed the advice above. Go to some support group meetings and meet people who have had it done. Don't rush it.

What will I be up to doing post op?
JCP replied to happymama2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It all depends on your pain level. Some have a lot, some next to none. I had a lot for two weeks, then it dramatically diminished. Keep your options open but plan to spend your time resting. You will need it. -

First week sleeved...quick question
JCP replied to Fluffernutt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wait... I could consume a lot of liquids, too. It just goes through your stomach I think. Food though... Nope! Believe me, it is different. Then you will know you have been sleeved. -

Please call your doctor tomorrow. You may need lab work done. Can you try to get some gatoraid and scrambled egg down? -
Waiting for a burst of energy!
JCP replied to ren0318's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Reno! Congratulations to us! I'm struggling with energy too. You are doing great on protein! Me, not so much. The shakes are killing me! Gag! Eggs are my go-to. They set well and give me some energy. I 'm sure you'll hit your stride in no time since you are working so hard on protein. It will pay off! Meanwhile, if your body says rest, listen to it! Keep up the great work! Love from Texas! -
Oh and that 90 minutes? No back pain at all!! Three weeks ago, 20 minutes of the store and my back hurt! Now I'm down 30 lbs (including preop) and it 's great!

Hi Lexie, yes, you are in a weakened state and on limited calories. When you start getting on soft foods ( and calories), you will feel your energy return. The first week, I was practically immobile. I am week 3 and spent 90 minutes walking in walmart this week ( while they changed my oil). Rest is your best friend right now.

Also, try cottage cheese, marinara, and a few crushed up turkey meatballs heated together in the microwave. Lasagna without the pasta.

I made a casserole of scrambled eggs, cheese, salsa, and refrieds (I am from Texas!) in the microwave. A few minutes, done! I have a big bowl to eat small portions from several times a day. Nutritious and easy and having no problems with my tummy accepting it. Refrieds are awesome!

Who is that handsome thing? It's you!! Way to go!! Congratulations on your success and engagement! What an exciting time for you both! -
I've been wrapped in this layer of bear fat for so long, I've slept under a fan year round for years! Then menopause, crap! I am 3 weeks out and wondering if I will stop being a walking sauna any time soon!

Mavsfan, I doubt we could consume too much protein with our itty bitty tummies now. Gas pain varies. Mine was a week, others longer, but it does get better. My belly was very sore in general the first week, I was pretty immobilized by it. The second week, I had pain in that main incision only but it was bad. Then it all just sort of went away by end of week 2. I have some incision soreness now but it's minor. I don't even take tylenol. My advise: first two weeks were hard for me and may be for you. Rest and sleep through it as much as you can and take those pain meds. I promise it gets better pretty quickly... Much faster for me than my hysterectomy!

Amen to Rovobay. It is nuts! Don't worry about a thing. My mantra is Take pain meds and rest! I overdid in the beginning and pulled an interior stitch. Not good!! So do your best to take it easy, don't push yourself, don't compare yourself, and rest! Congratulations !!

How are all my new sleevers doin?!
JCP replied to TeacherMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it's so weird, right? Not hunger, but I feel what I call puny and know I need some nutrition. And can I get a Amen on that chewing stuff to death. There's nothing left to swallow! getting a little sick of eggs but they work well. Sick to death of water and protein shakes!!! Gag!! -
Sleeved yesterday (9-30) help!
JCP replied to mochax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations!! My gas pain settled in my left shoulder and slowly diminished over a week. Take those pain meds and get rest!! Do your best on Protein and Water and don't worry about it. Yes, it DOES get better. I am 3 weeks out today and feel 10000% better than I did week 1. Remember, take pain meds and rest! -
Can I sleep on my stomach?? OUCH!!

First week sleeved...quick question
JCP replied to Fluffernutt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never felt full on liquids (nor hungry). Soups, protein shakes, no fullness. I am on soft foods now and there is quite a difference. That food stays in your stomach a while. Very different from liquids. -
I started soft foods this weekend. Have been doing great. So thrilled to be off liquids! But today was my first full day back at the office and I didn't plan well enough. I only took a small yogurt and a protein shake (gag). By the end of the day, I felt puny and knew I needed to eat. Got home, fixed my tuna and ate too fast. Did not throw up but felt sick for 3 hours. Lessons learned: Pack adequate nutrition! Don't eat fast! I know all this but had to still learn the hard way I guess.

Love this! So happy for you!

I think we have to figure out what "agrees" with us. I figured out that my new stomach does not like soup. OMG! It goes straight through me ! I am doing well on scrambled eggs, finely chopped turkey, and tuna so I'm sticking with that for a while.

Oh my Lord. What a horrific story. May God bless your friend and her family, and you. I'm sure she is proud of you. I'm so sorry this happened. I will say prayers.
