I lost 10 pre-op and 17 post op. Then weeks 3-4 I lost 4 lbs !! I was devastated and cried in the doctors office! But he explained that it was normal and that extreme weight loss was stressful on my body so it had to rest. He said it will be a lose - plateau cycle. I'm fine with it now. Just keep moving forward and don't focus on the scale.

Too skinny; how do you define it?
JCP replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, how do you feel, do you have energy, and what does your physician say? That is the key. -
11days out and not sure what the heck I'm doing!
JCP replied to alwaysonmymind1111's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is awful at first, I agree that it was very painful! But it passes. You just need to rest, rest, rest. Do your best on liquids and protein. Don't push yourself; go slow with food. And I agree with the others... I avoid the scale. I only weigh at my appointments and my physician likes that. It works well. And keep a log! -
I'm sure at some point I will eat a piece of homemade bread and butter again but right now bread won't provide what I need and I don't miss it. Now, a couple of saltines with tuna, that I do enjoy.

September Sleevers....whatcha eat in' now?
JCP replied to auntjanny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 6 weeks on Wed. Trying to get most of my protein via food. Turkey works well (deli and ground), cheese, tuna, and eggs mostly. Have had baked chicken once. Tried ground sirloin, did not work so avoiding beef and also have not tried pork. Actually, my main food addictions were meats and sugar. Now anything sweet tastes awful and meats also are unappealing. I may end up a vegetarian yet as the things that taste best to me are different types of beans and cheese. The good news is my A1C and cholesterol are way down so that's a huge win. I am able to sleep without my cpap, am down a size or 2 depending on the clothes, and can walk distances that made my back hurt previously. So having some foods taste bad is a price I will pay happily although I was very frustrated by it initially. Oh, and not sure of total weight loss as I only weigh at the doctors but I think it's around 40 lbs counting my 2 week pre-op. All in all, still learning and adjusting, but feel I am ahead of the curve and on the right road now. -
I had it, too. There are internal stitches strengthening the abdominal wall. You may have pulled one a bit. This is what gave me the most trouble. You should call the doctor and ask about it but they told me to take my pain meds, take it easy, and it would heal up. It did.

My pain lasted just under two weeks, them it suddenly was drastically reduced. I know you probably don't want to hear that but it was my experience. I think it depends on your body, your surgeon, and your age.

Fluid is so hard. The swelling and the trauma to your tummy make it so tough. We all go through it. Do your best, don't drink too fast or too quickly or you will be sick. It will get better but it does take a while. Try to remember that staying hydrated helps you feel better, heal faster, and lose more weight.

Did You Freak Out About Surgery on the Day Of?
JCP replied to mnmlst's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was alone and freaked out, too. I talked non-stop to anyone and everyone. My nurse and I talked like old friends. She was very sweet and helped me keep my mind off being scared. I thought about walking out several times but knew it was my last hope. I don't want to endure what my dear mother went through. Believe me, I am glad I did it in spite of any down side you can name. And don't worry, I think you will be able to eat your favorite foods again in time... Only you will no longer be a food addict. Here's to our health and happiness! -
Before surgery, my dermatologist said I had lost half my hair (genetics). He recommended rogaine for men as the dose is higher. But I am giving supplements a try first.

I took pain meds as it was so difficult to get comfortable at night. Mornings, the pain would be minimal. Night, not so. They helped me get through the worst if it. I recommend it as you really need your sleep.

Oh no, that's a shame. Poached eggs are my go-to. How far out are you? What about pureed beans? Some have said refried bean (low-fat) with melted cheese has worked for them.

Most things are way off for me but people say most times it goes away after a short while. I am hoping it's soon. I miss my glasses of ice water. They taste funny right now.

I am on month out. I have tried 2 low sugar protein bars. Very small bites. Only eat 1/4 at a time. Have had no issues.

SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
JCP replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Es, yes, water makes me feel nauseous. A lot of things do. I am one month out. I think it will be better soon. -
Mine was 9/10 and I don't know when I've cried so much! Almost all silly things, some when I'm sad but also when I'm happy! It has to be the physical changes. It is getting better, and realizing it is just my body changing helps me handle it.

When did you last have lab work? My iron is very low again so am having some issues like this. They put me back on 120mg iron a day.

I also would like to go vegan. I am just trying to heal right now but hope that with newfound energy, motivation, and habits, I can make the change.

How wonderful! Congratulations and may you continue to have great success.

Just a couple curious questions
JCP replied to TeacherMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, for me, permanent titanium sleeve staples, non-dissolvable internal stitches in the abdominal wall that scar over, and glue on the incisions. -
10 lbs pre-op 17 lbs first two weeks 4 lbs second two weeks!!!! WTH!!! I burst into tears right there at the doctor's.

One week before surgery...getting really nervous
JCP replied to Lesile65's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you weren't a little apprehensive, I'd worry you hadn't given it enough thought. This is life changing surgery and serious stuff. But it will also save your life. Congratulations and best wishes to you. -
I didn't know how big I was

Day 14 Post op and weight stall?
JCP replied to Hockey momma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations! You know, I would recommend you not weigh very often actually. Our bodies are recovering and going through a lot of changes. I am stalled right now but my doctor assures me that it is normal and healthy. As for food, take it easy on that tummy. It is still healing. What they tell us all us true: little bites, small portions, eat slowly, chew chew chew. Breaking those rules is no fun. -
Can't tolerate Protein Shakes post op
JCP replied to caitiebrady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got some unflavored packets today to try. I hope it will help! I'm with you... Those sweet shakes are repulsive now! Never thought I'd say that about anything sweet! Yay!
