  1. I am only 7 weeks but no food appeals to me. Shakes are repulsive but I try to get them down. I eat nuts and cheese to get food in because they cause no tummy problems. Yogurt and beans also work fairly well for me. Meat tastes so horrible and makes me feel ill, even a few tiny bites of chicken. It's amazing to go from a meat-sugar addict to not having any desire whatsoever for food. The good thing is I am starting to enjoy the freedom from the addiction, and am not missing food anymore. I think the monkey is off my back!
  2. I heard mederma works very well. I haven't put anything on mine. They no longer hurt but are very red.
  3. Try not to graze but eat a small amt every 2 hours instead: a small handful of nuts or a slice of cheese are my choices at 7 months and I don't get hungry. Maybe by 11 weeks I can proceed to some slices of fruit or veggies.
  4. You can have "real" food, only you won't be able to eat much of it, and most things you ate before will make you sick. So proceed with caution...
  5. I am 7 weeks and finding that meat is really kind of repulsive to me now. But I am eating dairy and eggs. Peas, beans, and nuts taste so good. I hope to go vegetarian after I lose more weight, then hopefully vegan when close to goal .
  6. I am 7 weeks, no hunger. I have to make myself eat about every 2 hours or I do feel a little weak. But hunger, not a bit.

    Life Changing Push

Oh my! I don't know if I could face that! You are very brave and doing great! I'm sorry you are having a tough time with food. Mine has not been fun either but it is smoothing out. (Day 45) Keep up the great work!
  8. I was on broth, water, and protein shakes 2 weeks post op. Then I went to eggs, yogurt, and creamed soups. All the docs are different. I have trouble with any meats at 7 weeks. I can't tolerate anything that tastes sweet. But I'm probably eating healthier than I have in years: eggs, cheese, nuts, peas, beans, yogurt. Am very happy with my new food preferences. I walked by donuts and chips and frozen pizzas today and thought UGH!

6 days post op... no fun

My pain was bad for two weeks then diminished very quickly. Beef bouillon was my best friend. I lost 17 lbs those 2 weeks. Things are SO much better now. I know it's easier said than done but please know that you are not alone and it WILL get much better soon!
  10. Heading into week 7 now. Getting more comfortable with eating as I figure out what works well and what to avoid. Liquids are not so distasteful now. Meats of any kind still taste funny so I am eating more beans and peas and they taste wonderful. Also cheese, yogurt, and nuts are on my good list. My pants size has gone from a 22/24 to a 16/18. All in all, each day is getting better. The only real hurdle is bad anemia but am addressing that with supplements. I can't wait to see how things are in another month.
  11. The first two weeks I felt horrible. So much pain, so hard to get fluids down, difficulty sleeping, and very emotional, and I did not have near the difficulties you faced. It is going to start turning around soon. Take pain meds if you hurt, sleep all you can, and do your best with fluids and protein. We all promise, you will feel much better soon.

    Just sleeved

Take those pain meds and sleep! Your body has been through trauma. This is not an easy surgery or recovery but it will all pass and you will be much healthier and happier. Please try to rest.
  13. I am 6 weeks out. (8 if you count pre-op.) I am very anemic and having the struggle many face getting nutrition in. I went to bed at my normal time last night. I normally wake to my alarm at 7am. Today, I woke up at noon. My alarm had been going off for 5 hours. My boss had been paging me. I have absolutely no idea what happened. It really scared me. Thankfully my boss was not angry but just concerned. (He is a nurse.) Has anyone else had anything like this happen? I slept a lot while off work but I was on pain meds then. I am praying this does not happen again...
  14. Oh my goodness, Miss Mac! Are you doing better? How terrifying! I am going back for more lab work. They doubled my iron supplement so hoping that helps.
  15. I forgot two more! That you may encounter emotional ups and downs initially. I cried a lot! But the really great, number 1 thing is ..... I never, ever get hungry! I have to make myself eat on a schedule (every 2 hours), It's amazing!
  16. I wish I had known my incisions would be so painful (but that varies widely from person to person, that it would more difficult than I realized to get protein and fluids in and that my tastes would change so dramatically, causing many goods to taste bad to me. But the good news is, it's all temporary while my surgery results aren't! Be prepared to rest and sleep a lot, to get tired of sipping shakes and water, but it will pass soon and you'll be on your new path!
  17. It's weird! I had it in my left shoulder, too! It was uncomfortable but certainly not excruciating. It slowly dissipated and was gone in a week.
  18. Be happy you are getting your protein and fluids in! You're doing great! And the above poster is correct, the restrictions kick in when you eat - big time! Keep up the great work!
  19. Yes, I did. Just had to keep my back to the shower. It was wonderful.
  20. I mix ground turkey with cottage cheese and a bit of marinara. Lasagna without the pasta. Works pretty well!
  21. Just remember, the only tough part is the nasty pre-op drink for the GI/colonoscopy. But that doesn't go on for long and then you are done. The actual procedures are a snap. And these screenings are GOOD for you, even if you were not having surgery. So put up with it and tell yourself this is necessary for your health. You will get through it!

    Painfully Alone in This

So sorry to hear this. Some people just really do not understand. Just my opinion, but I think you should just let it go. You are in charge of your eating habits and are making healthy changes. It seems you have helped your son to make healthy choices as well. If your mom shows up again with junk food, put it away and then drop it off at a food bank. If they come for dinner, cook healthy food. If you go there, take a healthy salad and side dish. Or meet them at a restaurant where you can have soup and fruit! I could never change my dad. He is gone now. For your peace of mind and for your son, try to find a way.

    Body image issues

Wow... You are an inspiration. I have lost only about 40 lbs and I don't like what I see. But I feel SO much better! Please be proud of yourself. Don't worry about saggy boobs - we all have them! I plan on wearing a bra and three-quarter sleeves all the time! (Think I can find a swimsuit with sleeves?) Plus doing neck exercises and moisturizing. As for the rest of it, who cares? Clothes will cover us. And we will be healthy! I am proud of you. God bless you!
  24. I think I would only say 'wow' and walk away shaking my head. And of course never speak to that idiot again.

    Two kinda stupid questions

My main incision is at my waistline so only bring something loose. It's easiest to wear a hospital gown there as you will have IVs, etc. but bring a robe and slippers for walking the floor. Other than that, a toothbrush/ paste, a comb, and whatever makeup you want. I promise you will mostly sleep. Good luck!
