  1. Following. I have been on a no-grain no-carb no-sugar no raw-veg/fruit diet for ten years due to other issues (but gained an enourmous amount of weight). I have learned about recipes and ideas for packing in the Protein and have lots to contribute. I'd be happy to meet you all in person in the capital region.
  2. I just found out that I will be able to remain on the lean & green diet until the day before the surgery. I will be able to begin protein-type liquids on week 2. I am feeling really grateful that I can prepare mushy foods in advance at minimal cost. I already began to freeze some foods. I put refried Beans into ice cube trays for future mushy meals. Yay! Next up: a giant pot of chicken Soup, and mashed chopped liver - to bring Iron levels back up.

  6. With all the pre-op testing and pending surgery, I thought it wise to begin weaning myself off my morning coffee. I'm not a major coffee drinker, but I must have my giant cup every morning before my brain wakes up. If I don't, the headache kicks in brutally. I wonder if it is worth the effort. I dream of a coffee-free life, where I do not have to drag my 'dosage' with me when I travel. I am always ashamed that I run to have my fix in the morning when the birds are not singing yet. Anyone else ALSO go through that process in preparing for surgery?
  7. I use instant coffee, so I have been making that heaping pile of granules be smaller and smaller. After a week, I am finally down to half. I am excited about finally ridding myself of this addiction and find independence.

    Hot nose! Really hot!

The membranes in your nose were irritated from the spices in the stuff you threw up....
  9. I am meeting with the surgeon pre-op on Monday. I need to explore the correct keywords to use in conversation. The goal is to have him understand to send away for insurance authorization for a tummy tuck to be included in the initial surgery. I need to explain it as a medical necessity. It is. Having given birth several times, I struggle with fighting rashes and infections every summer. I cannot even fathom how much worse it would get with the weight loss post-op. Thank you.
  10. Excellent! It did not occur to ask the doctor if it would be covered by insurance. Wow.

    What kind of meds, specifically?

    Kays natural Parm chips

    mmmm sounds amazing.
  13. Sensory issues are the reason I am scheduled for surgery. I narrowed my food choices down to a few foods that my body was unhappy about. Having the option to prepare healthier choices in advance with less possibility for being hungry is the win-win choice for me. It sounds to me like your son *is* an excellent candidate, albeit for non-traditional reasons. I can consult with you privately on this issue.
  14. I went to Wal-Mart earlier and purchased a can of refried Beans. I love it! I'm feeling positive about food-based Protein sources. I will ask the NUT if I can make my own chicken Soup. Thank you, all. Really helpful.
  15. My staples now are chicken, eggs, cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, hummus, and avocado.
  16. I will certainly look into gathering/hoarding allowables, since I'm am scheduled for July 1st. I think I will be allowed to stay on this lean diet until the surgery, so that is a great help.
  17. The unflavored in soup sounds interesting. Thank you!
  18. Wow, that's very helpful. I'll begin to focus on documenting, rather than 'splainin' till I am blue in the face. Thank you so much.
  19. Wow, I learned so much here. You guys are amazing. First thing I cleared up is my misconception that I would need several weeks’ supply of Protein powder. Apparently, it’s barely a week or so. This is excellent news. Regarding chicken broth, I will ask the NUT tomorrow if there needs to be a certain nutritional cut-off, or if I can cook my own. I can cook a two month supply for about $13, which is very easy and cheaper than buying many cans. I am going to probably spend some investment on smaller packs of various protein powders. I am a very picky eater. If I have to narrow myself to a pasty concoction that I will not be able to get down, then my recovery will be awful. I’d rather ‘shake it up’ a bit and have variety. You’ve all been great here, so thank you. And keep it coming!
  20. I'll be going it all alone. But I'm used to that by now.
  21. In New York, Medicaid will ask you to have six weigh-ins and six nut visits, and a 'medical necessity' evaluation from the surgeon. They tell you that you must have a BMI of 40+, and two disabling conditions. They make it sound complicated, but when it really gets down to it, you will see yourself through it.

    Cardiac

Because of my family history, I am actually looking forward to the card-visit and testing. If everything looks good, I'll be elated. If stuff is messed up, I sure want it fixed!
  23. I endured for three whole weeks and it paid off. I got scheduled for July 1st surgery. At this point, I no longer wake up at night from the hunger pangs. I keep sipping liquid all day long to keep the pangs at bay. I'll say, stick it out. You can do this.
