I got a call at the end of Friday's business day from Ellis Bariatric, rescheduling my RNY from 7/1 to 7/7. I have a very busy work schedule, and this date was set a month ago. I cleared my calender, made plans, prepared foods.... I am LIVID! Turns out that they really couldn't care less about the patients, and do not accommodate. I have requested a reassignment to any other surgeon who can stick to the 7/1 date. So far no answer. I am so mad, that I am considering asking to be referred to another Bariatric center (AMC, St. Peter's) Honestly, I no longer care who does it. I just need it done, so that I can go on with my life on August 8th, as planned. Any advice for moving from office to office? Will they literally force me to start the process all over again? I already have insurance approval, lost the pre-op weight, and got medical clearance from my PCP. Gosh, I'm furious.

Work Travel 4 weeks post-op? Terrified
latido replied to latido's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, you're all so helpful with this. The fact that I can easily work myself into a fury does not contribute. I think the bigger issue is the exhaustion (because I know I pass out from weakness after surgery, been there done that). This is the peak of my emerging career, a very important conference presentation. I don't want to pass out from overdoing it. The final concern is the social aspect. At conferences, you meet up delightful people at mealtimes. I look forward to meeting all these people and getting to know them. If I have to LEAVE campus (after paying $250 for a week of food), and return to nibble some lunchmeat, then I worry that my eating 'habits' will become a spectacle, rather than the content of my presentation. Gakkkkkk, I'm just so nervous. -
Work Travel 4 weeks post-op? Terrified

My doctor (@#$%^&*) rescheduled my 7/1 surgery because he wants to have a longer July 4th vacation! This means that when I fly on 8/8 for an important conference, I will not be on solid foods yet. This is a tremendous hurdle and anxiety for me. I'd be hauling frozen prepared pureed foods, possibly confiscated by security.... and be weak and unable to lug my rolling suitcase. Even worse, heating up pureed mush in a conference motel room on the other side of the country. I am miserable... but reaching out to ask if anyone has had important things in life that came up four weeks post-op and how it went. Thank you. -
I have been in the foulest of moods in the last two days. I'm at week four of the pre-op starvation diet. (hugs)

I was set for 7/1 and doctor rescheduled for the 7th. I am devastated (disrupts so many pre-planned stuff on my schedule) and will spend all Monday trying to convince them to switch me to a different surgeon who can stick to the 1st as planned. -

What was uour system for getting in fluids the first week out?
latido replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I prepared chicken broth in 1-liter soda bottles for post-op. I also purchased a 2 oz. mini measuring cup and a pack of 1 oz. party shot glasses. I plan to set a timer, microwave the broth in the measuring cup, and drink it from the 1 oz shot glass or the measuring cup when 2 oz. are allowed. I plan to take my own broth to the hospital, since it is so much more nutritious and packed with Protein. -
Oh, wow. I had no idea. I'm glad I asked!

Tell me more. Is body order stronger during weight loss? I'm not sure I understand.

Work Travel 4 weeks post-op? Terrified

Groan. I'll be staying for one week at the UCLA campus, I don't suppose I'll see any chefs there willing to blend a cafeteria cheeseburger. I'm just so upset that the surgeon bailed on me, when I had it all organized to the last hour. I'm trying to calm down. I refuse to check frozen foods. I don't want to worry about getting them refridgerated in time, messing with microwaves 4" from a dorm bed.... Argggggggg -

Food in Freezer, Ready for July 1 RNY!
latido replied to latido's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I did all of that in a day, and it all cost me $75. First, I cooked a 16 qt pot of fresh chicken Soup (from scratch - chicken + root veggies). I also added whole zucchini to the pot. Then, I also cooked huge batch of minced onions and let it simmer with a bit of oil until they were golden. I drained the onions of the oil and pureed it. I used it to flavor all of the purees. I used clear broth to thin out the dryer foods as I pureed them. I added almond milk and greek yogurt to everything so that I had the added Protein to compensate for the added liquids in the mix. Measure EVERYTHING before you put it into the blender. This way, you can break it down to portion-size calculations of its nutritional content. Here's two ‘recipes’ from my list: 31 2 oz. servings Mashed potato 4 large Idaho potatoes = 4 lbs.(64 oz) 1 cup Almond Milk 4 oz. Greek Yogurt, 0% 1 cup sauteed onions 14 4 oz. Protein Potato Broth 1 cup almond milk 2 cups mashed potato mix (see above) -
I am so excited. chicken wings, fries, ice cream, gushers…) Then, I spent the entire day yesterday cooking so that I have the six weeks of foods portioned and ready in my freezer. I bought 2 oz. condiment containers with lids (50 for $2.95) and used 1 liter bottles for freezing fresh chicken broth. Cooking from scratch, a six week supply of post-op food cost me $75. I also added 0% greek yogurt, chicken broth and almond milk to pretty much everything, so that there is Protein in all meals. Here’s the list: 7 2 oz. servings Refried Beans (3 cubes) 19 2 oz. servings Chicken Zucchini Souffle 17 2 oz. pureed Tuna 31 2 oz. servings Mashed potato 12 2 oz. servings Chopped Liver 23 2 oz. servings Chicken Puree 27 2 oz. servings Zucchini 14 4 oz. Protein Potato Broth (with almond milk, greek yogurt, and mashed potato) 4 Liters clear chicken broth (32 cups-256 oz) stored in four 1-liter bottles I will purchase fresh hummus and yogurt post-op, and will cook fresh yogurt and Jello too. Do you think this will do? Am I missing anything?

2 months post-op 25lbs down. Anyone else?
latido replied to w8loser's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm nearing that pre-op and I'm frightened with how my body reacted to sugar last night! I cannot imagine a life-long of no cheating. But the weight loss is all so worth it. -
Confession: I’m terrible with numbers. I see that the post-op puree diet suggests meals which include measurements of both ounces and tablespoons (and cups). Are these interchangeable? For example: 4 Tbsp pureed chicken ½ cup refried Beans 3 oz. yogurt ¼ cup cottage cheese 2 Tbsp yogurt I bought a pack of condiment containers which are marked 2 oz. It took about 3 1/2 tablespoons of tuna, when I measured. I also poured a 2 oz container of Water into my ice cube tray, and it fit perfectly into three cubes. So, if I want to measure a proper serving of Protein, am I safe to assume that whatever fits into the 2 oz cup is considered a serving? Or it depends on which food it is (refried beans vs. yogurt vs. pureed chicken?) Thanks!

Newbie Tbs/Oz. Measuring question
latido replied to latido's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay. So if a meal consists of a 2 oz. container of Protein, I am good to go. I can save the veggies for week 4/5., I guess. -
Has anyone hear of this?

I wish we'd have a clothing swap at our doctor's office.... Since some people change a size every week. -
Newbie Tbs/Oz. Measuring question
latido replied to latido's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Google tells me that 4 tablespoons equals to 2 oz. - so far so good. -
i am scheduled for RNY on July 1st, 2014. I feel like it will be the first day of the rest of my new life! I am also exceptionally grateful that I can remain on the lean & green diet (no Protein shakes) until the day before the surgery. Although this is a private and isolated journey for me with no support, I am happy to have this forum.
