    3 days out of surgery

Day one, still in hospital. I feel as I expected to... Keeping happy
  2. I'm on day and am thrilled that I brought my own from-scratch chicken broth. Also, baby wipes helped me freshen up so I could get out of the gown and into pjs
  3. Wow, great. I'm in the capital region.
  4. My surgery is this morning. I have 3 conferences coming up in four weeks. I expect to be needing professional clothes that will be an estimated size 16, which will hopefully only fit for one or two weeks. I have no budget to go and buy clothes, but I can certainly trade my 2x clothes in a week from now. hope there is an interest. Thanks.

    June 2014 Dates!?

........and I'm off for my 6:00 admission for RNY. Tada!
  6. Wow! Were you at high risk for ulcers prior to the surgery?
  7. In a deeply emotional moment, I sat down and wrote a list in order of importance. I will share it here, in case it helps anybody organize their thoughts, emotions, and priorities. 6/25/2014 RNY Surgery Goals To be able to eat half a yogurt and be satisfied, full, and fortified. to no longer be consumed with healthy food shopping and meal preps, the miseries of weighing cabbage, and be satisfied with my minimal needs. to get off my blood pressure medication Lower my cholesterol to normal levels to beat the odds of my family’s heart disease to be able to navigate stairs without dislocating my knees to be able to walk down the stairs and see past my stomach so I don’t trip To be able to get up from a chair without leaving a sweat-spot to be able to wear dresses without leggings, and not chafe my thighs to see my knee bones and ankles to be able to pick up a tissue from the floor without waiting for more things to accumulate before bending down to be able to walk for more than 10 minutes before my heel spurs start throbbing to breathe easier for longer periods and not trigger my asthma to sing for two hours straight without throat pain to sit on the floor with my clients and play guitar. to send all my old clothes to Lisa and Beka be able to play a narrow-neck guitar play the violin without colliding my fingers enjoy airplane flights without stopping the circulation in my legs because my thighs are squeezed in between the neighboring armrests to be able to lift and move objects without throwing my back into spasms to be able to wear trendy shoes with less support be done with granny-panties to be able to buy size medium clothes on the sales rack to be a normal-looking healthy American
  8. Thank you so much for sharing. It really makes me feel less alone when staring at my "shit just got real" list. I added "eliminate Water retention in my feet"
  9. I'm frightened about altering the timbre and vocal range in my singing post-op. I am a musician by trade.
  10. I told the doctor that at least two people told me that their asthma did not lessen with the weight loss. They were very surprised. I am soooooo looking forward to tomorrow, in either case.
  11. I found this topic through the search. My RNY is tomorrow, and the only thing that frightens me is the unknown changes to my vocal range. Singing is my livelihood, and I currently am in high demand because I sing full range (a choir director's dream). I wonder what happens to the 'fat lady' after surgery... I just don't wanna be a skinny blond who once used to sing :-)

    What is your dream job?

...to play on the Horowitz Steinway at Carnegie Hall.

    June 2014 Dates!?

    Food Funeral has commenced.
  16. Asking for suggestions for RNY next week. I have a crappy $10 heating pad that really disappoints. Thanks
  17. Not sure how I would feel if I had to be on the extreme diets some of you are on. I'm at week five of the pre-op weight loss diet, but not liquid like other people. That would destroy me. I'm on very lean protein and 1/2 cup cooked veggy 3x a day, and all day drinking . I weigh in tomorrow and go for pre admission testing. So psyched!
  18. I have an 8/2 flight to give a presentation at a conference on the other side of the country, and must be on regular foods by the time I leave. I timed the surgery for 7/1 for right after I finish teaching in June, and be recuperated by my August work. They just called to reschedule for 7/7. That means I would have to be a month after surgery to fly and I am LIVID! LIVID!
  19. I ended up making some grown-up noises, and I was set back for June 26, next Thursday. I'm delighted.

    Found decent protein shot

I found Isopure Gel in a squeeze Pouch, and it's pretty good! It seems like it would be perfect for when I am too weak to chew/swallow post-op. http://www.netrition.com/metrx_iso20_gel.html 20g Protein 0g Sugar 0g Fat

    HELP I'M STARVING!

The first three weeks, the hunger pains woke me at night! It was brutal. At week four, I actually realized that I couldn't even a half-sandwich, my body was revolting the excess! It really begins to happen, but with extreme hunger at first. I'm on week five and looking forward to surgery next week.
  22. June 26, I am so pumped!

    June 2014 Dates!?

    June 26, yippee!
  24. I had my TNE scope this morning, and felt weirdly empowered by my stamina and endurance. Keeping my humor throughout painful/uncomfortable experiences is something that I have come to realize how far it sets me apart from others. I came home completely euphoric after meeting the surgeon. I felt truly lucky to have met another human being that I can totally communicate with. It was such a weird sense of relief, that I left the office skipping and bouncing. This is going to be a very positive journey in my life! I am taking nothing for granted.
