How would I know if I am dehydrated, or just reacting to the pain medication?

I'm confused with the post-op diet. Is day one the day of surgery, or does it begin the day after?

I'm in a rural village in the middle of nowhere, seeking Skype support. I am 3 days post op. I'm 36, female, post-RNY, and live alone with no support. Thank you.

supported garment or something to hold my abdomen?
latido posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3 days post-op, and spending all my waking hours pushing on my abdominal wall with a pillow so that I don't feel the wobbling. It feels so painful, and I can feel stuff shifting around inside behind the abdominal wall with every move and breath. I am thinking of wearing a supportive garment or something, like an ace bandage. Any ideas? -
Weight loss? What weight loss?

I wish I can laugh out loud, but I'm four days post-op. Thanks for the visual -
I have been on the SCD diet for ten years for crohn's before RNY (4 days ago). I was able to heal my colon only by strategizing on specific foods. If you need help getting on the http://www.scdiet.org/%C2'> please message me. It works in stages like post-op: broth, yogurt, etc. After four years, I was able to add potato, and then rice. I have never been able to tolerate raw veg and fruits, but have started o tolerate them peeled and cooked in moderation. You can do this! Don't fall into the trap of medication, because it masks the problem, and you then don't feel the need to heal it from the inside out.

Torani is just over $3 at Wal-Mart - a very valuable product. I type this as I sip my morning fix :-)

Since the surgery, I cannot see well. My eyes are so fatigued. I'm seeing blurry and double, cannot focus on anything. Please tell me it's the exhaustion only?

There was a tiny little circle sticker behind my ear. i found it yesterday and removed it. I had no idea about it. I never felt any nausea. Interesting.

I will call the doctor's. I did buy one yesterday, and I slept through the night for the first time! -
I was asked if I had a BM. I said, yes, based on the fact that the 'stuff' came from the required place :-) It basically was just sediment in the toilet bowl
-
Day 3 post-op, I just had a friend buy one and velcro it onto me. I look forward to crawling into bed with it and try and sleep.

So week one begins not a week after surgery, but the eight day?

It is my first day home post-op, and no painkillers at all. I noticed it as soon as I came to in recovery. It can also be residual narcotics in my bloodstream. At least I want to believe that.

It can be nerve pin from the hernia. It can also be sciatica

When I move, I feel a swirling/swishing of my inside flying from right to left, and wobbling back. I swear it feels like my intestines/organs are swimming around. It is gross and so painful. Regarding # 2, I had a miracle yesterday before I was discharged. I felt the urge, and something (tmi) did splat its way out from the appropriate place :-) basically just a teaspoon of sediment on the bottom of the toilet.

I am walking most of the time, so the gas is almost not an issue. The problem I have is he flying abdomen, feels like it will rip apart in any position that I attempt. So I haven't slept in forever, and still can't work up the courage to cough.

supported garment or something to hold my abdomen?

the pharmacy sells abdominal binders. I am craving that so badly right now! -
I am 3 days post-op. I was everything mentioned above. Broke my pre-op diet, had major conversations in my head, had tantrums in my mind... and then waltzed into the hospital the morning of, and joked about it all the way to the finish line. Anyone who asks me how I'm feeling, gets, "I am miserable but so happy" confuses them.

I went to my PCP on Thursday for pre-op medical clearance, and learned that the Water retention, high blood pressure, shortness of breath and chest pains, is possible ASTHMA! Rather than my heart. He said that I exhale like a severe asthmatic. As I sit here going through my life history, I am always thought that I was unable to 'breathe' after doing stuff (or singing), because I was always overweight. Now I am starting to rethink it, and am just in shock. Did anyone find out about unforseen medical issues when going for pre-op testing? Also, the real question - whill the 'asthma' vanish when the weight is lost?

Is it Asthma, or the extra weight?

I am 3 days post-op. I had major chest pains and my oxygen intake was around 85. I had to wait 2 days for the nurses to order a treatment. Soon after, I felt much better. I realized I couldn't breathe in the bed, so spent the rest of my sitting upright in a chair. The respiratory person said that it is NOT asthma, and that I was hyperventilating? What the heck? -
I am day 3 post-op and just sat down to my long awaited first cup. I was not given any directions to quit coffee. I did use almond milk just in case there is any lactose intolerance. I also cut my caffeine intake down for 6 weeks prior to RNY. Two heaping tablespoons is now 3/4 of a flat tbs of granules.

Just got discharged and crawled into my bed. Tip: It is easier to sip and swallow while walking. Groan.
