    Day 10 post op QUESTIONS

I stalled at 2 weeks post op for 12 days. Thus far, my weight loss has been a series of stalls where I sit at a weight for a week or few days then lose 3 or 4 lbs. I usually when I stall my measurements go down. So my measuring tape is easy handier than my scale.
  2. I went to a pot luck early in the afternoon. I had one chicken thigh, and a couple bites of stuffing, corn and mac and cheese. Then way later I had a slice of my cranberry custard pie.
  3. I don't know. He just bothers me! Lol!
  4. I don't know if I will or not. My parents scale is calibrated differently than mine is back in Chicago. It might tell me I've gained. It's a jerk. But no, really... I guess I won't know until I go back home!

    I HAD MY SURGERY

I'm not gonna lie, I had very little pain post op. Yeah I was one of those people. I just felt groggy. And wanted a drink but was allowed nothing until the next day. The hardest part for me was that pressure on the lung feeling that made it hard to walk. Like, I had to walk so slowly for a week!

    Clothes

I am a clearance rack person and also go to places like Ross, Burlington, etc. The thing is, I still have to look nice for work, for interviews, etc. And I can't wear the same pants every day. Lol. So even if I shrink out of them, that's fine. I hate looking frumpy in baggy oversized clothes.

    Portion sizes

I can eat a frozen meal sized meal. So 6 oz, before I get full. I can get in about 5 oz of chicken and feel full on that. I'm just shy of 7 months.

    Occasional Endless Pit

Are you eating foods that tend to be sliders on those over eating days? Carbs like Pasta, potatoes and the like don't keep you full very long. Make sure you start your meal with a Protein. chicken, turkey, Beans or soy if you are a vegetarian. Are you getting all your Water in? I've said this before on here, the thirst mechanism is very weak in lots of people and we mistake it for hunger so we eat. So if you feel hungry, drink something first, then reassess in 30 minutes whether you are hungry.

    soups

No. One can eat soup. Just don't think because it has a broth component that you can drink with it. Some people do report that soup is a slider for them. Especially more brothy ones.
  11. There are protein puddings you can try. GNC sells them. When I was on purees I put meat in my food processor and ground it down. You can also bake and cook with protein powder. Once you are on soft foods you can make whole wheat pancakes and add in protein powder. Same with muffins or baked goods.

    Problematic Foods

Rice bread and pasta were allowed in my soft food phase. If I eat them, I try for whole wheat bread and pasta and brown rice. With bread, sometimes I just want a ham and cheese sandwich. I still make pasta dishes like lasagna for my husband. But I try to make it with lots of meat, cheese and spinach. I don't eat a lot of it.
  13. I've always liked to cook and bake. But my enjoyment of it has neither waxed or waned. I do watch more shows about bad food like Diners Drive-ins and Dives (despite my dislike of Guy Fieti as a person).
  14. Mind you, this pie is not healthy at all. Not one bit of good for you. So if you are looking for a healthy alternative THIS IS NOT IT. Have a small sliver... I got the recipe from Real Simple and it came out so fab last year, I'm making it for my Dad this year. http://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/cranberry-custard-pie
  15. I think the reasons everyone has posted cover most of why I chose the sleeve. But I will say that as a high BMI individual the thought process is that you can get a revision to a bypass to lose even more. So if my weight loss were to peter out (I won't lie, things have slowed, but I still seem to lose 9 to 10 lbs a month these last couple months). I can revise to a bypass. I don't want to, but I could. I don't like the idea of having innards that are blind should something go wrong. Also, I am diabetic and I was completely off my medications within a week of my sleeve. I just like to put that out there for diabetics, that the sleeve can also help with type II should you have it. Since then my HgA1C is at 5.5%, which is normal for anyone and well beyond the well controlled goal of less than 7%.

    Rumbly Stomach...Why?

Right? My stomach makes just about as much noise as my cat. And most of the time when I am not hungry at all.
  17. The insurance will require your hospital to write the remaining amount off stating that you have hit your OOP max and that the remainder cannot be billed to you. However, they might bill the surgery and the hospital stay separately so as to get more money from the insurance company. Mine did. The hospital stay/recovery room and all that was one billing and the actual surgery was another one. So I got two EOBs from Blue Cross for the same procedure.
  18. Personally I got down on my knees and thanked Jesus because purees were the worst. THE WORST!. The first thing I had was deli ham and it was like the skies opened up and angels sang from heaven. No really. Purees were THE WORST (mind you I was only on purees for a week but it was the longest week of my 37 years of existence - for reals). You are going to get full really really fast on those soft solids. Like, one piece of that deli ham will do it for you. So fret not, you will not gain weight on soft solids unless you are cheating your sleeve and overeating. You just have to remember portion size is everything. Further out when your stomach is fully healed and you can eat more, portion size will come into play even more intensely.
  19. @@bajagal101 Clear liquids are like chicken broth, Water, clear beverages you can see through (regardless of color) like Isopure. Full liquids are can be things like cream of mushroom Soup, or cream of chicken soup. Any food or beverage that is liquid but you cannot see through were you to pour it into a clear glass vessel.
  20. My world famous (okay not really, but darn good) cranberry custard pie. Oh and turkey skin. I love the skin. LOL!
  21. I'm assuming you are diabetic. Type 1 or 2? And what kind of medications are you on? Orals or insulin? When I got home from the hospital, I was told to keep taking metformin and to stop taking my glipizide. But on the metformin my sugar levels were topping out at like 60. Which is pretty low. At my one week post op the surgeon told me to stop taking the metformin. Also, since you were just sleeved and are on liquids, there is no way for you to know if you will get dumping or not. You might, you might not. I do not. A lot of people do not. But the best thing to do is to ask your surgeon or nutritionist what they would suggest when you see them for your post op visit.

What to take and day of?

I brought a bra that had convertible straps. So it was easy to get it on over all those tubes and wires and crap. And fresh underpants. I hate not having undies on. I was butt nekkid under my gown until I got the bra and undies on. Other than that, bring a book or a magazine (because unlike the previous poster I was wide awake and felt basically fine from the time I was wheeled into the room to the time I left). Your phone. Something easy to change into when they discharge you. Easy elastic waist, a sweatshirt.
