Shedding for a Wedding
Forsythia commented on Mishka85's blog entry in We Don't Carry That Size Here...
Wedding season is tough. But the thing is, even if you don't tell them you had a sleeve, you can just say you are cutting back on alcohol or watching carbs, or whatever. Heck you could even say you were trying to loose a couple of lbs to fit into the dress. Really you do not owe your friends an explanation about what you do and don't drink or eat either. -

TMI im 5 weeks out and still have loose stool
Forsythia replied to teshadb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on a stool softener or any medications such as metformin? That could contribute to loose stool. Also, Fiber. too much fiber causes my intestines to hate me forever. So I stopped adding that to my shakes, because I was miserable even after easing into it and using it for a few weeks consistently as suggested. -
I told my husband (obvs), and my boss (since I needed to let her know I needed the time off), my parents and two friends. I did not tell my brother. He mentioned once in casual conversation that weight loss surgery was cheating (funny talk from a guy who has never been fat a day in his life). I don't know if my parents told him or not, but I didn't tell him. Since the surgery the five people in my department at work know and have been supportive, but that's about it. What I do with my body isn't anyone else's business. I might be a little sensitive, but people are also judgey.

LOL! I had a friend log 20 minutes of sex in MFP as her exercise. To answer your question, I haven't tried to swallow since the surgery. The husband gets all crabby if I suggest finishing him off this way. I guess it's a point of pride or something??

I need new pants. All of my pants are size 26W, save for a couple of pairs that are 24Ws. The 26Ws are all giant and fall down which is comical when you see me walking down the street hiking them up every five seconds (I know, I know.. get a belt and call it a day. I don't like belts). The pants I have that are 24s can all now be buttoned, but they are a touch too muffin toppy in my estimation. Bu then again, that could all be me and my head. Even when I was a size 18W in my head I was still a 26W. I do have one pencil skirt in a size 24 that looks awesome now. It's kind of fancy for my casual office though. But I suppose I should wear it while I can, before I shrink out of it. Still at 274, total of 32 lbs down post surgery. Am steadily doing around 40 minutes of cardio at the gym. Only one more week until I can lift weights again. I own you, next week. LOL. I'm going to be all about the DOMS and whining about said DOMS to my husband.

I have Type II diabetes. Since my sleeve my blood sugar has been averaging around 104 (its been 5 weeks today). I was on metformin and one other drug whose name escapes me. Initally the doctors had me on the metformin but every day my blood sugar was so low (like, 60 low) and I was all shakey and stuff, so at my post op my surgeon advised me to stop taking it and follow up with my regular doc about it. We'll see when she does my A1C if I need to go back on the metformin or not. I'm hoping not.

4 weeks Post Op and Stuck
Forsythia replied to DaddyMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes it does help. Especially if you are eating so little. The body might not hold onto the stores so tightly. Since I'm burning off around 300 calories, I eat an extra snack. Just so the body isn't all crabby. -

Michelle, have you tried eating more calories on your workout days? It might help. -
I know, right?! I have slowed down from that pace. But it was just bizarre. I would go to bed and wake up the next day 7lbs lighter. I'm hoping for a more modest 15 to 20 lbs this month.

Today is my one month surgiversary (sleeveaversary?) Since coming home I'm down from 306 to 274 lbs. That's 32lbs so far. My rings are loose, but I have been living with being a big girl 31 of my 37 years. People ask me if I look in the mirror and see myself being smaller and the answer is no. At least not yet anyhow. I wonder if I will ever not see a fat girl as I progress. Even back a decade ago when I lost that 70 lbs, I never saw myself as being smaller, even though I went from wearing a size 26 to an 18. So what am I going to do today? Go to the gym of course. The LA Fitness is nice. It's brand new with big wooden lockers and equipment that works as it should, a sauna and a pool. Because of that it is always busy, and compared to my old gym, the people who go to this gym are much more fashion conscious about their gym attire. Dudebros at the old gym wore jorts and were okay wearing jorts. Most girls wore old t-shirts and yoga pants or capris. Or running shorts for the treadmill types The LA Fitness is very much high tech, moisture wicking, body con tank tops and capris. There is still an old tshirt and sweats crowd. The jorts crowd at my old gym apparently didn't all migrate to Planet Fitness (ugh). But still, I admit to feeling much more out of place. Hopefully as I get smaller and come in more often I won't feel so out of sorts.

Feeling Like My Surgery Is A LIFETIME Away
Forsythia replied to mnmlst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to have six months of classes, but by the time BCBS got off their butts and approved me it was March (I went to my first appointment in June.) So by the time I had my sleeve it was almost a year. But that just gave me time to get used to logging my food and going to the gym and detoxing from sugar. Don't make every meal your last meal. I fully admit to having a last meal though, the weekend before my surgery. My hosptial doesn't do a pre-op liquid diet, just a low carb high Protein diet. So I made sure to have a steak! LOL! -
Meow! Hot mama! (what, that was not me, that was my cat.) Congrats on the weight loss. You look adorbs!

Going It Alone - No Help After Surgery
Forsythia replied to blondiebabs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, look into Peapod or Instacart for groceries if you have those services in your area. Since I live on a 3rd floor walk up, it came in handy when my husband was out of town. I have the luxury of living in Chicago where everything can be delivered. -
Going It Alone - No Help After Surgery
Forsythia replied to blondiebabs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm married, but my husband was at work most of the entire week I was at home. So essentially I was on my own. I did not have problems doing normal things like showering or going out on walks. I did easy stuff like laundry, but no heavy duty chores. Going up and down stairs took more effort than anyting else, really. I will say put out there that my first four weeks post op have been really easy - really pain free and textbook. You can't assume your recovery is going to be the same way. If you are worried, ask a good friend to check in on you - either by calling or stopping by. -

I'm a fan of a cute retro skirted suit. Gives a little more coverage in the leg area. -
Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon
Forsythia replied to boredswfl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr. Eric Hungness at Northwestern Memorial hospital right here in fabulous Chicago, IL. I loved the nurses and staff. Even the interns were all very nice and encouraging. -
Ditto to the one week. I eat cheese all the time. Apparently I'm part mouse.

What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?
Forsythia replied to Menelly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I miss sausage. One bite made me barf. I loved my encased meats. LOL. But I'll tell you what I don't miss - diabetes. My blood sugar has been normal every day since my sleeve. I don't miss feeling so full from over eating that I'm miserable. -
2.5 months post sleeve - bored w/ foods
Forsythia replied to Jaime_Boston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've never been the best eater. And I get home so late some times that cooking is just not an option I buy frozen meals like lean cuisine or atkins and stock them in the freezer. Even if I don't eat the entire tray of beef merlot, at least I know that it is a finite quantity that doesn't allow me to graze. If you only eat half a tray, just put .5 in in myfitnesspal (or wherever you track). -
Not feeling any restriction at all..
Forsythia replied to Happysassyg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I eat something like a greek yogurt, I feel that much less than if I eat something more solid, like chicken and broccoli. I'm only getting down a few ounces of them before the stomach say nope. Water, broths, Soups, yogurt they all go down really easily and you'll eat more of that because it will just slide right through. -
Happy one month surgiversary! I've also lost 32lbs in my one month out! We can be weight loss twinsies. LOL!
