recommended calories 3 mo, 6 mo, 9 mo etc after sleeve
Forsythia replied to Jeffrey Eliot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also try to keep a 40/30/30 ratio for protein/carbs/fat. Don't always succeed though. I was told by my NUT to be eating between 800 and 1200 calories per day. I go to the lower end on non workout days, the higher end on workout days. I try to work out 4 to 5 days a week (again, that 5 days doesn't always happen because life gets in the way sometimes. LOL!). I Swim for 45 minutes or so twice a week, do cardio/ heavy weights twice a week and take one class called body works plus abs (which amounts to a fast and light weights) class once a week. -
Exercise Routine Post-Op
Forsythia replied to brendaliz_r's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Slow and heavy. Fast and light weight training does have its place though. But I agree with @WhoKnows. As soon as you can lift heavy, do so. I get bored doing cardio and weights though. Not gonna lie. This is why I swim twice a week, take a fast and light class at the gym once a week and do heavy weights and cardio twice a week. This keeps me sane. -
Oh, funny story. My 6th grade teacher's husband is Hal Higdon. But that was in 1988 - 1989!

So hard getting enough protein
Forsythia replied to vbm510's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always have a shake or a bar. On a good day I can get 50 grams with food alone. -
Positivity Challenge. Name 3 things about surgery that has changed your life.

No more diabeetus medications. My sugar levels always hover around 90 now. Before I went through the program they were out of control on two different medications. Being able to shop at the normal stores instead of the plus sized stores or online only. It's so nice to pick up a shirt in a store and try it on. Being able to complete the Body Works plus Abs class at my gym. I'm not the thinnest person in it but I can do the entire thing! -
Thanks for coming back to update us! Don't beat yourself up too much, you've only been home a little over a week! Just try to drink as much Water as you can and let yourself heal!

I had a 12 day stall around 3 weeks out. It sucked. I just kept plugging away at the treadmill and eating on program and I unstalled. It was like the heavens opened up and angels sang. It'll pass.

I have a couch to 5k app on my phone and I keep looking at it and think "nope" and "is a zombie apocalypse imminent?" So you are one step ahead of me there, girl. But the thing is, you finished the program. So you are a runner Be proud of that!

What can I eat?
Forsythia replied to Samantha Williams Smith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried things like turkey or ham lunch meat? What about cheeses? I liked to make little lunch meat and cheese roll ups for a quick high Protein meal. You need to focus on protein, so avoid bread and rice, Pasta.. You might also try Beans as they have protein. Refried beans, baked beans, Etc. You might also try yogurt - either Greek or regular. I like Greek because it has higher protein (interestingly I HATED it before my surgery, I felt it was too thick and the texture bothered me, but now it's good). You can also try to see if ground meat bothers you - turkey or chicken or pork meatballs.. You sound like one of the people whose smell and taste buds got more sensitive post surgery. I hear that that is temporary and will go away as time progresses. -
When does weight loss begin?
Forsythia replied to Fox-E's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have loved to only picked up 3 lbs. I gained 12 lbs of fluids in the hospital. Literally overnight I dropped 7 of it though. The first few weeks are usually pretty rapid. Then you might slow down and/or stall out for a bit, but that is the body adjusting. The losses will pick up again once the body adjusts. -
Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?
Forsythia replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Rants & Raves
Oddly, I was never big on buffets. I want my food cooked to order. LOL. God only knows how long the food has been sitting out on the buffet. No really, there are lots of topics with questions I think are basic knowledge. And lots that have been asked before. It's the nature of the beast that is the internet. Sometimes I don't feel the need to answer the same question over and over again. Rather than be an ass about it, I just click out of the topic. -
I still wear a size 9. I've lost almost 100 lbs! My feet are haters. LOL! My feet were a size 8.5 from puberty onward, then went up to a 9 in my 20s.

I never really had big boobs. I would say that even when I was over 300 lbs my boobs were on the small/medium size for my frame. I was a D before. I'd guess I'm a small C/large B now. Bra band is down to a 40 or 42 depending on the cut/shape/brand of bra.

Still holding steady at 240. I'm confident I can get into the 230's before Monday though.

Howdy kids. I'm down 75 lbs. 95 from my highest weight ever (sleeved on Cinco de Mayo - 5/5 - if you recall). My labor day goal was to be 235. I'm 240. I thought 235 was a stretch, but I'm pretty close. Hell, if I lose one more lb and get into the 230s before then I'll be happy.

I am four months out. I was told I should be averaging between 800 and 1200 calories per day. I work out pretty intensely (I can be in the gym up to 2 hours some days) and typically get near 1200 on gym days. But not always. Yesterday the tank just didn't want more than 800 (and I swam for 40 minutes). On my off days I stick to around 800 or 900.

You had to buy a ring snuggie for your wedding band/engagement ring because they fall off your finger. I will get them resized once I am done losing weight! -
So disheartened and defeated.
Forsythia replied to une nouvelle vie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Try upping your calories since you work out 5x per week. I try to get close to 1200 calories on my work out days. On non-workout days I typically get less - 800 to 900. Body is happier this way. I started out in my program over 300 lbs. So I wouldn't say I was low BMI or anything. Also, here is an electronic hug. *hug* -
I say that my husband has Hobbit feet. Because Hobbits have hairy feet. I'm picturing you as this petite tiny thing with hairy feet!!!

WLS Worries: Sagging Skin
Forsythia replied to gabrielle2014's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm still actively losing. But as a person who has gone from 335 at my highest to 240 currently, I have loose skin, especially on my thighs and on my sides by my boobs. Also some in the upper arms. It doesn't bother me that much. I thought it would bug me more in fact. How much of my day is spent naked? 15 minutes in the shower and maybe another 30 minutes if my husband decides to have his way with me. LOL. That's 45 minutes of active naked time and of that 45 minutes, if I am thinking about my skin during naked time with hubs, I'm doing it wrong. Besides, this is a man who married me when I was fat and was still into me. You can't control how other people react to you, you can only control you. So if you are okay with you, the other people around you will most likely be okay with you as well. -
The initial seminar was free, But all of the pre-op nutrition classes were not covered according to BCBS. They basically wrote half of the cost off and placed the rest on me. However, my surgeon's office never charged me for a co-pay for nutrition classes. They said that most likely the visits would not be covered by insurance. So I knew that going in that I was going to get a bill. My psych eval was covered by BCBS. I only had to pay my regular $30 co-pay for that. But everything else hit my flexible spending card hard.

May 2014 Sleevers, what are you eating?
Forsythia replied to 4andcounting's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you considered trying to go back to basics? shakes, chicken broth? Unseasoned foods? See if something more bland doesn't upset your tummy. Maybe you are adding some spice or ingredient that your body doesn't like w/o realizing it? If you are eating/drinking a lot of dairy, you might have developed lactose intolerance and not realized it. I have not had any issues since I got home. Just about everything I've tried has agreed with me. Log your food on myfitnesspal to see if you notice any patterns or commonalities. And don't be afraid to contact your doctor or surgeon if it persists. -
I'm an Old Navy kind of girl for basics. I went there the other day, bought a pair of Sweetheart skinny jeans in a 20 (If you know your ON the Sweetheart is the fit for those of us blessed with birthing hips and a small waist). They are almost too big in the waist. An 18 was a touch too tight. I wanted them to wear now since all my pants are literally sliding off my ass. But I did end up getting an 18 in a pair of jeggings. I also, went to Macy's and got a pair of $95 Jones New York pants for $16 on clearance. So now I have this one really nice pair of fancy business pants. LOL. I'm taking them to Indiana this weekend to have my mom hem them since she sews. I'm gonna wear the hell out of them. Funny thing is that I'm not even close to skinny, but my parents have never seen me this small. They are gonna freak out, but in a good way.

The ol' straw debate. Do you use one?
Forsythia replied to Loristi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the hospital before I left, I was given this "jug o' water" (okay, maybe it wasn't a jug.. it was this plastic thing with a lid and a handle). It had a straw in it. I had to drink it in order to prove I was ready to go home. My nut said some people do better with them, some people do worse with them. Try using one to see. If it gives you gas, stop. If not, use the straw.
